HMC- Rover 75 mushroom cloud?

My dad had a red ( rouge geranium?) special new. A521slg. Picked it up 1st August and we went down to France on holiday in it the next day - I must have been 10. The only problem with it in the three years he had it before the bx (c383hfm) took over was corrosion on the rear discs. I remember him taking the wheels off to grind down the rust on the disc edges to stop them grinding.

Yeah, that's flipping brilliant. Can we see what the seats look like?

Let me know when you want to double your investment

If this does come up for sale he should hold some sort of auction as I think a few of us would be moist about the prospect of owning something as spectacularly cool as this.

There are not many cars I would ever consider replacing the Visa with but I would have to think about it for this l'onion barge.

Go on, get one before they all disappear. You might be a touch late for a CX (they seem to be gradually rising in price), but the others are still accessible at Autoshite prices, and the C6 - the last big Cit - in particular has been taking a real beating in the depreciation stakes.

Aside from mrs dustman killing me if I buy another car without offloading some of my other junk and sorting out my finance issues, big Citroen ownership isn't my bag. I see the appeal, but I couldn't live with one long term.

Awesome bit of kit.  That gear lever looks a bit low, but I suppose you don't need to use it too often.  What's the gearing like on these - is it going to be screaming its knackers off on the motorway?  Not that that matters when you've got a V8 to listen to obvs.

Also, and at the risk of sounding like Wobbler, please swap those wiper arms round.  They're making my teeth itch.

Glad I'm not the only one! Always pained me that my LDV 400 beavertail had two passenger wiper arms. I felt incomplete. I still do.

Didn't later models have wiper arms with a much reduced angle between arm and blade?  Like the passenger one (incorrectly on the driver's side) on this vehilce?  I'm sure I've seen plenty of them with "two passenger wiper arms".

I thought anything LDV was made to Monday morning or Friday afternoon standards using whatever was lying around?  :-D

Just watched the Vids too.  That is not running on all 8 by a long shot.. possibly not even 7.  Like Clarkson's Porsche 928 in the sub £1500 porsche challenge, that sounds like a V6 & 3/4.

I forgot how to embed (and take decent) videos, but here's a bit of HMC LDV GT V8 action.

The Yodel boy would hae no chance at winning "chap door runaway" with a 'sorry you were out' card if forced to deliver in this.

You'd hear it 1/2 a mile away!

Does it spin up the duallys Mistah?

Yup that's gonna be epic when all eight pots are invited to the party.

My old LR sounded like that when I got it. Cleaning & swapping the plugs about along with setting the carbs properly made it run properly. Gained 1mpg too :D

I contend that there has NEVER been a sensible four-door, four-seat family car that's as much fun to drive as a GS/GSA.

Perhaps just the one, before the ferrous oxide time bomb went off...

Agreed it's not running absolutely perfectly just now but the combination of rubbish phone microphone and a devoutly religious exhaust make it sound worse on the video than it actually is.

Yes, exhaust does sound somewhat fragmented. The Lexus also has this problem. Spoils the soundtrack somewhat.

All 400s had the different-arm set-up. The Convoy used identical arms each side. And looked crap as a result.

Agreed that it's dropped off a couple of cylinders at least, got some plugs and leads on order, the existing ones look ancient. Part of the manifold to downpipe joint/ joints have a hole which makes the uneven beat even more noticeable.

Odd to have a manual choke (and twin carbs) on something as late as this. HERITAGE.
