Hi all

as the title suggests new Volvo is arriving shortly. its a 740 GL on an E Reg. Manual, 2.3.

It's a bit tatty from what I've seen in the photos. Going to need interior parts such as door cards and trim that goes around the inner of the windscreen.

That looks bloody lovely! Bodywork looks really good.

I thought you wanted an auto though?

Apparently, fuel gauge doesnt work, probs an easy fix.

Very common problem on these. Usually it's dodgy connections or soldering behind the dash that causes it.

Sometimes hitting the dash near the gauge makes it jump back to life, but this can make the problem worse long term!

That looks awesome, it's unusual to see a 700 on alloy wheels.

I know this may be controversial, but I like the look of the saloon more than the estate. I look forward to seeing more about it in the future.

I think the alloy wheels are off a 960/x90

I’m with Brodders on this. I like the saloons more. This one looks great, nicely done.

Yes the wheels aren't coming with it they are off a V90 I think. I will try and get hold of a new gauge if that is possible and also try and source some of the parts I need on here.

I wanted an Auto! However, this has come up and seems a good example. Auto not essential I guess and a LUK Clutch kit is peanuts.

Cant wait to get hold of it on Saturday!

4sp+OD?

I would guess 5 speed, I think it is a carb 2.3 and the 4 speed overdrive only came with inj engines.

Sad.

I always wondered what the point of the 4+OD box was, I had a 940 TD with the 4+OD box and it was useful for quickly selecting BOOST if you were overtaking or towing.

That looks like Silver Green, same colour as mine.

Pretty sure you are correct and I think that will have trico plush cloth.

Add 1987 model year was the last for the 2.3 carb engine and trico plush. For 1988 they became 2.0i tax break on the GL and has a rather course mottled grey cloth.

Ooh, very nice. Good luck finding the bits of trim though!

Yep, beige Trico on the GL.

It's a little odd it doesn't come with grey considering the GLE gets the black-not-black (actually green!) velour.

Spot on with all of your info, yes it is silvery green, and yes that is the interior it has and yes it is a 5 speed manual

Need to find someone scraping one with the correct interior then I can get some bits and make it look plush :)

Dose it confirm 5 speed not overdrive, as I am working from memory and it's a few years ago now.

Carb and five speed, yes.

4+OD was fitted to GLEs and Turbos.

I liked the 4+OD box in my 940 turbo. It meant you could prop your left knee where 5th would be on long motorway gallops

They do that. It'll either be the gauge or the fuel tank sender. Or neither. Or both.

I always liked Trico plush and they did a red as well.

And a blue and a black :)
