Ha ha! Ner ner ne ner ner! I would love it myself but too skint at the moment sadly. Where is it?

40 miles south of Dieppe/Le Havre. Doable in a day. Poss after Crimble when ferry prices drop-if he convinces me its fairly rust free.Photos so far look OK.

That 929 is lovely, luckily my passport expired years ago meaning I have a great excuse not to go to France to go get it.

Plus if I rang him up about it my side of the conversation would be along the lines of "Hello, Mazda 929, Great Britain, I am Hirst, I would like to buy some chips please, such is life, thank you".

"Sod going to Friday afternoon's French lesson, it's so boring! I'm going to skive off and go home to play on my Mega Drive. I'm in England, what use is French? It's not like there's any reason I'll ever need to go there!" - Hirst (circa 1995)

218SD isn't povo spec, 218D is. I had one for a while - it wasn't that badly equipped, with essentials like central locking. No PAS though, bit of a pain with that boat anchor out front. I think the SD added electric front windows and the much needed PAS. Luxury.Definitely not a 2.0 either, it's a 1.9, but turbocharged models are 1.8. Confusing.Mr_Bo11/dolly, what's the issue with A-framing old Citroens?

Posted

I dont know, I just had in my head that the suspension set-up means they need a special A-frame or something, not too sure.

My friend had two 218SDs from new, a K plate non-turbo and an M plate turbo. Neither of them had electric front windows and I'm pretty sure only the newer one had PAS

They were a bit stingy with the spec up until they facelifted the cars, I think what I said is true of the be-grilled versions.

Could that be because the Escort, despite being a dynamically poorer car, had been loaded up with toys to make it sell?

Whoa! That 127 is georgeous! I'd stump up that kind of cash for it if I had it.

Sterling looks nice. Be interesting to see what it eventuealy goes for.

Those Rover 800 are very scarce here, they never sold them in huge numbers, I haven´t seen one for ages... Are they good cars to recommend?

Posted

I liked my 800 diesel a lot. A bit wallowy to drive and the steering was very light, but I believe later cars are much improved - mine was one of the earliest R17 facelift models. Really comfy seats too.The dashboard is quite dated but fairly well built - the whole car seemed quite rugged really, I don't know where they get a reputation for being shonky from. Shame I drove around in it without any clutch hydraulics for a while, I fitted a new master cylinder but the gearbox failed 5k later.

Me too, I am sure (hope) it goes up. It's got test FFS!
