Ey up chaps.

I have just got through interview stage on the job I applied for, and I start 3rd July.

I've decided to treat myself to a new daily driver, but I'm unsure what I want...

Let's see what suggestions I can get.

Budget: £500-800

Criteria: 4 or 5 doors, cheap to run and insure. Relatively reliable. Practical. Estates preferred!

Ideas so far are pretty boring, like A stra, Xsara, Megane, etc.

Left field suggestion is Toyota Yaris Verso. Anyone know anything about them?

I bet Billy has a choice of Astras in that price range........

I'm actually pretty much sold on a certain Rover 416 in white that is on eBay. ...

Angrydicky's Maestro.

Do enlighten? I didn't see one for sale....

Supernaut's Xantia would be ideal for the job, although it might be too dull for you.

I like Xantias

£800 would get you a pretty nice Rover R8 Estate - classic insurance should be possible, and if you ask me (which hardly anyone ever does despite always being right) they're the best looking estate out there.

Volvo S60 non turbo petrol or 163hp diesel. Be fussy and get a maintained one, it will last as long as you need.

P.s. if auto then look for sign of an ATF change.

As mentioned above... would sir be interested in a Xantia HDi with 83k miles and an MOT until February?

Theoretically, I will check insurance, compared with the Rover.

Can I please have more info on the Xantia? I can't see a thread..

It's Doom Blue, cosmetically challenged but mechanically solid. Air con, all round electric windows, a somewhat temperamental 6 CD changer. Located in Aberdeen.

My Octavia VRS, fast, reliable, leather, climate, 35mpg, top of your budget ;)

Maybe not quite what you are after.

Congratulations.

You need a 2.2i Vectra B CDX Estate Cloth with Xenons.

I'll +1 the ability for a Xantia to cover 160 miles in comfort at enthusiastic speeds using no fuel.

It also donks itself.
