Temp storage available !

I'm not sure that putting his wife in storage would be allowed

Very tempted by this. I'm a big fan of Toyota's having been impressed with the reliability of my mr2. That engine is a good one too with diesel like economy. Would also be a great back up car for me with the added bonus of a tow bar so I could tow my caravan.

So, I've just called footman James to see about putting it on my classic policy. They've advised me it's an 'unacceptable vehicle'. They will cover it, when it's 30 years old! Seems they've tightened up their criteria recently. I have the mr2 with them but the idea was I could also put another car on there which I only use occasionally. I think I need to change my insurer.

Sorry I can't take it off you but surely someone wants it. Bargain of the century.

Good news!  I've found someone who'll insure it under a classic policy as it's over 20 yea...

oh bollocks.

Well done buyer.

Name the broker/underwriter god that is willing then. Might be handy for others that get the "unacceptable vehicle" spiel from their underwriting god.

Yes I'd be interested in that too. I'm going off FJ, fast.

FJ are still happy with a 22 year old Renault 19, a 90's jap import, and a 15 year old MX5 (2001), all on classic coverage. They do offer cover on a modern or two as part of a fleet deal, so log as the majority fit their new underwriter's (Ageas) "classic" criteria.

From what I could gather it has to be a 'special' car, something most people would call a classic. If it's just a run of the mill family car they won't cover it unless 30+ years old. Therefore, not very autoshite friendly for fans of 90's chod.

No, it's not that bad. A late mid-range R19, a 106 diesel, and a 90's people carrier are all nowt special in most folks' eyes, and FJ happily take my money for classic coverage... go figure.

FJ have been tightening the rules since October. Have heard of folks being refused at renewal time. There's an approved list, and it's not clear how cars get on or off it...

Good news on the Carina E sale.

Ditto for me. I had to renew with FJ recently, they accepted the addition of the Camry without any bother (and that was with it being a write-off). As I have several cars they deal with me through the Private Clients department, perhaps this makes a difference?

Maybe it's just for new business then. If they're already insuring it you're probably OK. Not sure why they will cover a R19 but not a Carina though?

I tried a few 'classic brokers' (26yo car/6k pa)

FRO m8 "there's no classic Toyota evva! - but a Celica!"

FUM8 says I...

FullyComp OTR parking 6k pa = £200 DirectLine on the fone :)

For any classic but not too classic car I use and recommend RH Specialist Insurance.

They insured the golden Lada Samara FFS.

Out of interest how much roughly and was it a limited mileage policy? That's what I need really as unlikely to do more than 2k a year.

Samara was roughly around £70 for 3k miles. My policy included occasional commuting. It's always inclusive of assistance.

Can't remember who I got a quote through for my Rover but I was pleasantly surprised to see it's a classic in their eyes. Ageas were the underwriter but I don't think it was FJ.

£230 for 3k miles with MY driving history is quite impeccable

I'm quite relieved that this has sold, I was having a hard time persuading myself not to make a pointless and ill-timed purchase.  As and when the Octavia finally falls apart I reckon one of these might be the next solution, it'll fit in nicely next to the Hiace and will never, ever break.

It's good that this has sold, but sad times if all the classic insurers bar RH are getting snooty.  My renewal with Peter James isn't until next March, so will probably have to pucker up and buy another policy with RH once the inevitable happens and I buy more shite.  PJ can sod off come renewal.
