AS dream garage game

Recommended Posts

On pistonheads I believe there is a thread called "£100k dream garage" where posters can say at length how they would have a remapped 330d and a focus RS for the weekend.

I've just seen a quote that made me think, we should have an AS version.

When I think £12k went on a Yaris it's pretty heartbreaking mind.

So off you go, AS dream garage for approx the cost of PCPing a small hatchback (say 12-15k)

I'll post mine up later once I've done some research.

I'd keep my current fleet and spend the £12-15k on buying a garage with (second-hand) ramps, air tools and suchlike ;-)

Ok, dream garage eh?

Hillman Husky Imp £??

Alfa 147 diesel £500

London Taxi £1750

Simca 1000 £6000 (but has to be pale blue)

That'll do me. Anything left over can be put towards the fettling fund.

If I could find one I would have one of the UK spec Chrysler (Valiant) Chargers and a HB or HC Viva, any remaining money could be spent on making it up to the other half. Maybe enough for a week in Malta looking at old cars

£12k, you say?

For £8k I could have an S600 Mercedes, which would bankrupt me the second that anything went wrong, so a BX19RD at around £1500 would take care of daily duties and to take me to bankruptcy court. The remaining £2500 on a Renault 4, preferably a late-model GTL

Hmm... quite like a Mondeo Mk1, Rover 200 R8, Capri 2.0. Would be achieveable I'd say.

I've got no great desire to own a Ferrari this that the other or Panini Zonda 1.6 turbo nutter bastard thing. If I won the lottery I wouldn't indulge in anything flash like a Bentley or whatever, it just doesn't interest me at all.

Mk1 granada. Mk1 fiesta.

At 12k they would no doubt be ropey with the scene tax

Mini 1000, Austin/MG Metro, Consul Classic.

I would expect some change so would add a combination of all/any of the following for about 500 quid each

Austin Montego, Hillman Hunter (fond childhood memories), tatty FB or FD Victor to play with

Or something else (Simca 1000 above was a good call). Always had a strange hankering for an early Fiat Strada for some reason

My plan would be to spend £500 on a shonky, 1990s daily econobox, and the rest on something really nice, like a Riley RME.

riley-rme-1955.png

That would, of course, never happen. Like Mr.Wobbler, I would end up with a barnful of hopeless, sub-£1000 heaps of shite, that would require a lifetime's worth of work to even scrape through an MoT.

^^ You say this like it was a bad thing

I'd seek out surviving members of my foolish acquisitions on my car CV and try to figure out where it all went wrong...

VW Beetle 1.3 1969 (lasted a couple of years)

Morris Marina 1.3 Super 1977 (lasted a couple of years)

Skoda Estelle 120L 1985 (lasted a month)

Metro - can't remember year or model (lasted a month)

Cavalier - can't remember year or model (lasted a week)

I gave up buying cars in 1999 as it was apparent I was doomed to fail whatever I bought.

18 years later, I'm looking to get back in the game of purchasing shite, but am confused by novel concepts such as 'ABS', 'PAS', five speed gearboxes, electric windows and daytime running lights - clearly the work of the devil, that lot.

My search would also include that POS brand new Corsa I hired for work for a few days which wouldn't start and made me late on the first day...that was shite as well

As someone says above, storage and to for the stuff I've already got and anything left over on a big fat whore! :-)

A storage unit.  If there's any left I'd love to have another 70s American to use alongside Huggy.  Or at least cover the costs of making Hyacinth like a new car again!

Or... assuming one already has somewhere to keep stuff...

Hmmm. £12k. Ok then.

SEAT Malaga 1.5 GLX. Not going to be easy to find but a trip to Spain and £2k should find a decent one.

Renault 11 TXE Electronic. Lets throw another £2k in the air and see if we can find a minter.

Renault Twingo MK1. Decent, early car in France for £1500. Be nice to make it quicker and better suspension so lets bang another couple of grand into it. Call it £4k in total.

Toyota MR2. Just because I'd like a 2 seater. £4k would probably buy a decent, Mk2 MR2 would it?

Thing is, I could do the Pistonheads £100k garage easily but I'd probably need a garage capable of holding twentyodd cars.

Everything I want seems to cost about twelve grand each now so I don't think it will give me very much of a storage problem.    I could quite easily spend 3 bags apiece on each of my existing four though.    The only vehicle at risk of replacement would be the 190E - maybe there will be enough in the pot for a tidy W123.

My Dream Garage....is...

My Rover 75....Which I need to get sorted & back on the road & Added Bonus, it is the OMG polluting/save the children/I cant breathe/ diesel version as well.

post-20267-0-40669500-1471704159.jpg

& Because I could not give a fuck about the environment & pollutants etc.....My 4.3 Litre V8 Mercedes....Guaranteed to show a gallon or two of petrol a good time.

The rest of the money would be spent on petrol for the Mercedes & Diesel for the Rover.  That is all.

Hmmm, so much choice but would have to include a Capri, mine would do, a ropey DS, Lada Niva, Lancia Beta, Fiat x19 and if there was any cash left (not likely) a crappy kit car like a 70s Nova.

Right, here's mine.

I would have to have an E32, would be hoping to spend no more than £2000 here. Doesn't have to be a V8 or V12.

I would want to update my Berlingo to something more modern, reliable and a bit bigger.

This fucked 400k mile ex-taxi Vito would fit the bill nicely.

I would go big on a weekend toy, something like this early Boxster for £4k.

That still leaves me about 4 grand, I would buy a nice early CBR600 in a horrendous early 90s colour scheme, and save the rest for rescuing orphans that wink at me on ebay.
