garbaldy Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 Now ever since welding up half a dozen of these shite heaps I've always vowed never to touch another ever again, the oompaloompa look really doesn't suit me but hopefully this one doesn't need any welding. Yeh right. I was offered this old heap yesterday and a deal was struck over the blower which handily included delivery, I know I shouldn't be gathering more shite when I'm being made redundant but my mouth blurts out way before my brain kicks in. So here it is in all its rusty glory and I have to say I am pleasently surprised as it's actually pretty good, it drives well and is 2.2 which is supposedly the better engine but I wouldn't care about that. RobT Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 Nice bit of signage in that second pic... groovylee, Sigmund Fraud and Rod/b 3
garbaldy Posted May 7, 2017 Author Posted May 7, 2017 I shouldn't really have bought it with all the shit that's going down at the moment but the price was just to darn good to turn it down if you know what I mean,It drives pretty well and so far I've only found two faults,A rear wheel bearing and the cam chain cover is leaking at the bottom. AMC Rebel 1
overrun Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 I sound like a proper AS'er here, but those still look too new to be bridge fodder imo.The 2.2 is a good motor, though. eddyramrod, AMC Rebel and BorniteIdentity 3
sierraman Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 I've had a few of those, bit nicer to drive than the older floor shifters.
twosmoke300 Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 Be careful with the 2.2 .They suffer with injector problems which can either spike the ecu or make the engine really noisy which eventually damages the pistons . A good 2.2 ( like the one I replaced the injectors on ) should be very quiet and smooth even from cold . If yours isn't and it's a keeper I'd be putting a set of injectors in it Barry Cade 1
garbaldy Posted May 7, 2017 Author Posted May 7, 2017 It starts an runs very well and is quiet as any dizzler can ever be but it most definitely is not a keeper and to be honest I don't know why I was eager to buy it anyway 😀Sometimes a bargain price is enough to have me reaching for my wallet.
Arthur Foxhake Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 The reliable old 2.2 eh?I've swapped out more than one of those with a hole in the block where a conrod decided to have a peek at the outside world. Service schedule should not be believed, they can block the oil pick up and starve the engine well before it is recommended to change the oil.Nice engine to drive though and a good comfortable van. paulplom 1
drum Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 That's immaculate compared to mine.Talking of which, the mot is now due, so I might take that off your hands if mine fails and you're selling.
paulplom Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 I have a 2010 140 trend. Owned it for 4 years and it now has 106k miles. Never had one bit of bother with it and I drive it hard. It does get a full service at m.o.t. time and an oil change at 6 monthly intervals. It is starting to crust over though. Not really sure what I'll change it for when the time is due.
Kiltox Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Given it still has a bit of test.... if you can't be arsed with it how much would buy it as is? Spending too much on renting vans recently and moving house soon
cpjitservices Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Be good to turn into a camper... wouldnt it ? Ideal size van for it with it being the high top.

garbaldy Posted May 11, 2017 Author Posted May 11, 2017 Yes I will sell it and I shall go and take some better pics of it asap. I priced a bearing and it's apparently a whole hub and is between £48 and £120, the cam chain cover is leaking at the bottom and a new one is under £30 although chemical metal would probably sort it.
Bobthebeard Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 I also am a two faced shitehawk.I have signed up to the alternative Brown Forum just in case this wonderful place disappears.Fingers crossed it won't though...I love it here.
trigger Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Frankly I'm glad the other forum now exists as after having a quick look on there we've lost a nice selection of two faced twats of here already. Shep Shepherd, Cavcraft and Bobthebeard 3

oldcars Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Indeed so....Unless I am included in that of course... No one who has a 75 and a ZT could ever be a twat, your safe. Bobthebeard 1
Bobthebeard Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 No, your sound Bob.Phwew!Thank goodness.(Mops brow.) Wish there was something I could do to help maintain the future of this place, but computer skills are not my thing. At all...
garbaldy Posted May 16, 2017 Author Posted May 16, 2017 Okay realisation has kicked in or in other words I've just realised my redundancy date is this month so am just gonna shift this pile onto pastures new. Would anyone care to give me a rough valuation of this fine piece of metal as is or fixed, I may just chuck it at a garage,
NorthernMonkey Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 What's actually wrong with this? It may be easier/cheaper (delete as applicable) to buy this to kip in rather than actually rebuild my T4... (For shitefest, by the way....not to actually live in all the time) The Moog 1
garbaldy Posted May 16, 2017 Author Posted May 16, 2017 It is leaking from the cam chain cover and the rear wheel bearing has play and is rather noisy. That is all I've found wrong with it.
