Baffled by spottage - WTF is this?

Spotted on the M11 today.   My daughter took the photos.  From the side, this car looked a bit like an old Volvo saloon, but it had unusual rear lights, and on the front a bonnet ornament of an American style.  RHD, driven by some bloke.  Query Japanese?

The front had been made to look vaguely like a 1970s/80s American tank.

Blimey that is proper weird, I wonder if its had some makeover for a film or something.

bottom of the windows raised to line up with the boot and bonnet top, C pillar windows blanked, rear door shut reprofiled, rear window shrunk, half of each rear cluster duplicated to make them longer so a square plate fits on the back, lashings of stick-on chrome... this is the sort of thing people normally do to PT Cruisers.

What a great spot.

How about a bullet proof version?

Maybe an embassy car?

Just modified for fun?

Have they wobbed over the rear quarterlights? As well as arsing around with the rear lights, obvs. Weird.

EDIT: Yeah, and the other dozen things that Vulg listed.

I'd gladly plate rape that and weigh the heap of shit in!

Previously registered F143 PLT, only got it's current plate in 2015.

It looks like a lot of effort has gone into fucking ruining a Volvo 740, I'd happily set the SVM enforcers loose on whoever did that.

Looked to me like it's had a roofchop until I reallised it's the glasshouse in profile has got shorter as it no longer starts on the chrome finishing trim above the door skin. Then I thought perhaps it's a modified estate but all the hard points are still saloon ones. So I'm stumped. I did also think what sort of person reflects on this at 2.18am rather than sleeping but hey.

Great spot btw bv.

Yes, I wondered if it was an obscure Japanese posh saloon that was intended to look American. The radiator grille did not have the Volvo diagonal across it, and there was a disc shaped bonnet ornament positioned at the front of the contraption.

The driver was a man with grey hair and trimmed beard, wearing a tweed flat cap.   I would say giffer, but he was more hipster-giffer.

He seemed not best pleased with my daughter papping him, so maybe he is a paranoid black ops grassy knoll conspiracy nutter who bought an armoured car and tarted it to look like a mini Presidential limo, because Space Aliens.

How many light clusters does sir require.

Er.

4 please.

These are the drop down flaps for the rear facing machine gun, missile launcher, oil slick spray and smoke screen!

Mrs 6C loves it and wants me to buy it for her, fortunately I am not drunk and breadvan failed to get its phone number!

That's definitely armoured. There were lots of yokes coach built in the UK, many years ago for big wigs and politicians etc. Bedwas and U.V.G. were two British firms (they used to build ambulance bodies and securicor armoured cash in transit vans back in the day). These manufacturers would sometimes change the original vehicles branding (like Dennis fire engines and a lot of limo and hearse manufacturers do).

I agree about the armour security too. Probably bullet proof glass and a sealed air supply in the boot.

Square rear plate would tend to suggest Japanese import, perhaps ex Swedish embassy there?

I'm putting my 10p worth in and saying obscure model that has been ex embassy and is armoured, bulletproof looking at how flat the rear window appears to be
