NEW New new new New top gear ON HOLD, RIP?

I saw a clip somewhere of Chris Harris saying he has shipped the Renault 4 back and is restoring it.

The £600 convertible challenge has me wondering whether they have been taking buying tips from these very boards.

Was surprised they didn’t smash that Metro up - what’s the score with it though, DVLA reckon it’s black....

Great start to the new series, after the dirge of the Chris and Matt years it’s back on form.

So how many of us were looking on ebay for cheap SLK's?

Maybe repainted it as black wouldn't look good on camera? Or just someone else repainted in its history.

It had been re engineered underneath no engine obvs but the wheels were linked with a beam axle front and rear; subframes notable by their absence.

The fella that resprayed it for them is in the Metro groups. As you can see by the grille, it was a cheap and quick respray to make it stand out on the telly.

The car itself was for sale for ages and nobody bought it due to dodgy rust issues etc.

Top Gear doing car bungee jumping is nothing new, they were doing it at the live shows for years in a K11 Micra.

It’s still a little forced at times, but OK.

The review of the Atom was top stuff, Harris is excellent at that. Great camera work too.

^ yes agreed on the atom segment. Also nice shot of Harris heel and toeing for those that like to see a performance car driven well.

In the event that I was doing that (no fucking chance) I'd probably have insisted on a 100% rust free car.

All the structural parts of the car were replaced with ones suitable for the stunt hahaha

You can see on the underside that there are no subframes and where the exhaust was is now a box section.

Not me, I'm looking for cheap LeBarons.

+1 to that. Those headlights...

I really enjoyed the show, looking forward to the rest of the series.

I'm still annoyed at what they did to the Bagheera. It was a bloody press car that had just been restored! I hope it gets repaired due to how rare it is. Now they've ruined a Renault 4 for the christmas special!

That being said, Richard Hammond throwing a fit at that minty Allegro in TGT was plain stupid, neither comedic or entertaining. What's happened to MOC 860X?

Ha, I realise they didn't just lob him off with some elaccy bands tied to the bumper.

Chris Harris bought it off the production company and wants to restore it. Not surprising as he has a thing for small French cars. Both a 2CV and a 205 Rallye are his city daily drivers around Bristol.

I’ve got a strange want for an Escort Calypso cabriolet now, who would have thought there was a market for a poverty spec Ford floppy-top in the mid-1990s?

Proper Summer Autoshite.

Escorts were still bloody popular then, still cresting the wave of the 1980s XR revolution.

I wasn't aware, I'm glad it's being restored.
