Dollywobbler's Omegawd - Cruisin' (old people can do it too)

Thanks. Today's albums have been Prodigy's Music for the Jilted Generation, Bat for Lashes, Two Suns, the aforementioned Kate Bush and I'd just got into Air's Moon Safari when I decided I was really tired and needed to pay more attention to driving (ie I'd got back into Wales, it was getting dark and the roads were getting twisty).

I'm really liking the Bose speakers. The stereo does occasionally cut out though. Possibly because of the resistance difference - most stereos are 4 ohm, but the Bose speakers are only 2.

Like myself, you have a wonderfully eclectic taste in music. I firmly believe that every musical genre has something good to offer, even Schlager  :-D

By the way, I have always really rated the Omega, as I'm a lifelong fan of big RWD Vauxhalls and Opels and like the idea of German quality without the perceived image of contemporary cars from other German manufacturers ^^

Indeed. Some Girls Aloud tracks are superb. I had JS Bach's Toccata and Fugue on the way over, followed by Nine Inch Nails. Variety is indeed the spice of life.

DW I'm about to send whats left of my Gold 2.6 manual estate over the bridge and if the diff is the same ratio, you'd need to check mind !, you're welcome to it and any other bit's. I have another Omega coming this week so would need to know what you want as the space is needed

I'd imagine it's differrent but I'll try and find out. Pretty busy at the moment, but aware I need to consider doors too.

Gave the front bumper a bit of trim gel, but then it started bloody raining again (as it did when I was getting the suds on. Wales can piss off today). Rear bumper still needs it very much.

The pre-facelift estates really are handsome old things. Got any pics of the interior m8 to whet the appetite?

I think I need to try one of these soon!

I still need to clean up the interior. It's a proper state in there! Here's a deceptive shot from almost a month ago.

Arm rest has gone all baggy, and there's a spider carcass stuck behind the binnacle glass. Mostly, it just needs a good vacuum session, but the weather keeps putting paid to that. The pressure washer will work in the rain. Not sure about Henry...

I could really hit an Omega estate. It just looks like a "real" car, a proper motor.

[thread hijack] omegod, do you still have a spare steering wheel? Mine isn't the best.

Another video. A more detailed look.

Just watched - it really is quite a nice car that. The aftermarket radio seems to be a bonus too.

Might try to get out to Wales in the summer, only been once (for a night out in Cardiff for a mate's birthday)as an adult since the many summer holidays my folks used to take me and my sister on when we were kids - I think I was scarred by the experience, not 'because wales' but because it meant spending extended periods of time in the car while Dad was getting lost. Looking back he was probably enjoying driving while I was feeling travelsick/queasy in the back.

The noise that engine makes on tickover is ace.

I think I want a straight 6 turbo diesel in my life.

I kinda want an XUD9 somewhere in my life. Love that tractor noise.

90hp water pump/pressure washer , emergency generator?

Maybe a lo-cost......

Gave the interior a good vacuum session. Has highlighted that it really needs a good shampoo session. Well, that ain't happening...

Turns out that light grey is a rubbish idea for car interiors. Who knew?

Ahhh man, that leather reminds me of the Da's avensis. less plastic in a fuggin bath:(

Looks clean and comfy though - could have been doing with a motah like that for my commute.

Enjoy!

This does look a decent old bus Ian, nicely kitted out too

Yeah, it's not very nice. I don't even like leather! Would it be considered criminal to fill it with velour instead?

Yeah, I'd say that was worth it. I know other methods are available, but I had a pot of the Autoglym stuff, so on it went. I also dabbed Vactan on a few crusty bits underneath and then sprayed Bilt Hamber Dynax UB everywhere to try and keep the thing solid.

I am a big fan of velour. It's a lot warmer on a cold morning for a start...

Bang on - I MUCH prefer fabric in a luxury motor. More comfortable and wears far better.

I'll make an exception for the sort of leather you get in a Rolls or Bentley obviously, but even then a Rolls with velour appeals massively!

At what point did leather become the aspirational material of choice for thrusting executive?

Leather is ace, just not the shit used in Fords and Voxalz. That grey stuff looks like recycled Hush Puppies.

Nice leather treated monthly with Gliptone just makes an interior.

Posted

Nope. Leather is not ace. It's cold and slidey.

Anyway, nipped out to the supermarket this evening. When I got back to the car, it had a friend of the same era.

I currently have an estate breaker with a cloth interior someone can have if they take it out

The 'for sale' post got lost in the Great Collapse. Not needed, as I've sold it to a pal of mine. Had a last run out in it yesterday. I'll miss the engine noise, but not much else to be honest.

Ah well. That's the end of Project OMG. Off to a new home in Lincolnshire, via the Llandudno Transport Festival, for I have sold it to Peter Simpson, editor of Classic & Vintage Commercial. Not the first time we've traded motors...

Overall, I think the feeling is of being pretty underwhelmed. On paper, a far better drive than the Honda, but in reality, I prefer the hopeless handling and bouncy ride of my black brick.

Crikey, haven't seen Peter Simpson since he was on on George "blubs like a baby" Clarke's tv show, amazing space

And back then I was thinking, haven't seen Peter Simpson since he did Practical Classics
