having refreshed a fuel pump on the bench in the garage I certianly wouldnt recommend fitting the full kit in the garden.

Yep they down rated the BMW engine from 170bhp to 130bhp as that's all the AR25 can handle. Any more and it surrenders. Why they didn't just slap the AR35 in it I don't know. I'm going to put an AR35 in my saloon, as the gearbox is already borked.

Glws, I'd love another but sadly got too many!

That's useful to know! It's not knowing how bad it is that's the tricky bit. I'm guessing I might get away with a bit of a week for an MOT, but dribbles are bad news. Wouldn't be happy driving something that's dropping diesel on the road.

I've just realised, I don't think I've ever owned a Vauxhall. How the hell has that happened?!

Del boy would say "You know it makes sense"

He would also throw in random French into conversation, completely out of context.

I don't know how that helps.

That's exactly how I felt about the Volvo! If you see it before you take it then you can plan around the fault but without seeing it it's just a best guess.

Anyone here on an Omega forum? Worth asking on there maybe? Or perhaps someone on there might have a cheap used pump?

I frequent the Omega Owners Forum, Vauxhall ownersnetwork (nee cav web) and Autobaunstormers.

Not often.

PM the exact question you want me to ask..

Ah, it's probably worth me signing up to one or two of those to be fair. I'll start with Omega Owners Forum.

I'll see what DW comes up with first.

It might be a worthwhile place to look for hints or parts though, so thanks for the offer.

They might know what it is that's prone to leaking on these pumps, so it might be a simple seal to change just that one on the day to get it going and driving.

I've never worked on one of these tbh so I've not got a clue what's involved with them.

It does sound like there's a lid on the pump which can weep. Though it does sound like the inlet manifold needs to come off to allow access. If I'm on the train, then I'll be limited in terms of toolkit, hence seeing if there were any Autoshiters in the location.

Bristol autoshiter and ex previous owner of Dollywobbler Bluebird reporting for duty!

I'm Bath side of Bristol so only about 15mins from there. Have tools and wifi obd2 reader if necessary. Possibly can get it to my local garage if required.

Let me know!

Excellent! I was wondering what had happened to that Bluebird only the other day. I really should have kept it.

Just trying to sort insurance, but I'll let you know a date when I have it. Is midweek possible or weekends only?

Contact established all-round. Eyeing up a week Friday for the Collection Caper. Still undecided whether to try and gain legality in Bath, or drive it home on the ol' pre-booked ticket. I'm a bit wary of that, purely because of timescale. I'd rather not have the time pressure of wanting to get back while the garage is open. I'm accepting that there's going to be expense here. Just hopefully not too much of it!

Best of luck DW!

I know it doesn't mean much after the cars been sat so long, but the cars had been loved and looked after before their owner passed away. I'm sure if it fails the test it'll be on something stupid or the brakes being poor (lack of use!). The Volvo moved really easily and the more it's being moved around the better it's getting.

This Omega, I have no doubt will probably be the better car out of the two of them.

Ideally it'd be good to give the Omega a good drive around before the test to get the brakes cleaned off and working again.

I'll look forward to the collection on this one!

Yup. I definitely won't just jump in and drive home. As a bare minimum, it'll get a gentle drive around the block to clean the brakes up. Nice and easy in an automatic!

I'll start a new thread for this one once a few more things are in place.

Great news all these motors and the van have been saved.

Glad to hear it's gone to a good home. Hope I can get a go owning it somewhere down the line.

Good luck with the collection caper DW!

Well done DW! This sounds like it'll be a peach of a collection thread!

So that's all of the cars (and the majestic caravan) accounted for, with 50% of them going to Autoshiters! Good work people!

RE fuel pump leaks, the full rebuild isn't an option on a drive. Honestly its a reasonable DIY but you need to take it off to keep it clean and not lose anything.

The pump is the same as the VW TDI but a 6 cylinder version. The only gasket I'd recommend doing in situ is the quantity adjuster lid. That's just 4 bolts but one is a Bosch anti tamper bolt, you can get a socket for them or just hammer a etc.

ISTR from when i had one of these that one of the common leaks is on the engine side of the pump, there's a couple of o rings behind covers that leak - these can be done on engine but need tiny child hands and mirrors.

Same engine as the Rangie I believe, second shout for joining up on Omega Owners Forum ,I've been on it for many years some very knowledgeable folk on there and many technical guides

If it is that. He doesn't actually know where it's leaking from, so it could be a fuel line, or any of the connectors. Sounds sufficient to be an MOT failure though. User_1979 seems to have good knowledge of local garages, and I've had another garage offer via a friend on Facebook, so I think it's probably going to be a case of heading over there, getting it properly looked at and then seeing about an MOT.

That's probably the most sensible option IMHO. I think it would be a problem on the mot and driving any distance if it is leaking badly is a definite no no. Best play it safe.

As a biker can I just say thank your for not planning to dump diesel everywhere.

Indeed. It's bad enough hitting the stuff in a car. And they don't fall over so much.
