To me the ultimate piece of shite ever made. Everyting is perfect, the looks, the interior, the engine, the electronics.

I do reckon that even if a lottery win (.. i don't play the lottery, consider it as a voluntary tax, maybe i should) would allow me to buy one, it will eat all my retirement savings within weeks.

An old acquaintance of mine swapped a two bedroom terraced house for a Lagonda. I'm sad to report that they're not as nice to drive as you might think, even before his cracked an exhaust manifold on the Chester High Road.

You know what, so would I Bren.  They look so well proportioned, got that real Range Rover look about them (unlike the new sport that looks Japanese) with a nice high typical RR seating position but not enormous in size like the new fully blown RR now.

A black Sport HSE please, apparently they are an absolute dream to drive.

If you can stand the different looks, a Disco 3 is the exact same car underneath (as the orignal RRS) for a lot less mullah.  Available as a 4.4 V8 Pez too - OK no supercharged version, but not too many of those about - lots I see are the old 2.7 - exact same engine as my D3 - and you can get older D3s like mine with manual transmission too (not the pez though)..

How is a D3 diesel with a manual?

We tried a couple before we settled on an auto as other seemed a very busy drive...not much of a powerband.....

The comfort level and build quailty is shite as well? Even more i want it then!

Old Japanese chod. I like crumbly Toyota Crowns and Mitsubishi Debonairs like the next man, but in the end, they aren't cool enough

to justify the OMGJDMRETRODRIFTYO scene tax and the ordeal of ownership due to the 100% nonavailability of spares.

For similar reasons, nothing with hydrolastic. I just don't have the nerve driving something while having the constant awareness

that the suspension time bomb will inevitably go off somewhen and then it's weighbridge time.

That's a pretty good description 😀

A Mk1 XR2 but I've missed the boat on those.

A Range Rover Classic with a 300Tdi but I haven't got the time or money for one of those either.

I can see a name change to Danny Fontana in the not too distant future!

A rover tomcat would also be on my bucket list..post-9282-0-53773800-1483790942_thumb.jpeg

I did see the other day parked up on the seafront a very tidy early Audi TT 225 4wd which hadn't been barried or seen a pineapple for sale for £1500 if I hadn't had a full drive I would of been more than happy to buy it.

The black leather interior was in lovely condition and the bodywork was really straight and rust free with around 118000 on the clock.

Also another motor I always wanted was a Corrado, there was one which I missed out on locally a couple of years back because I was short of cash in that lovely purple colour which had only done 74000 it went for under £400 and hadn't been used for a couple of years, I could of literally pushed it out the drive and rolled it half mile down the hill to my house as well and now they are way out of my price range.

Been giving this some thought. Gordon-Keeble is number 1 obviously and I'd agree on a Fiat 130 Coupe. Other things that come to mind are an early Range Rover Classic in suitably shabby farmerous condition (are there any left like that or are they all shiny showpieces?) and a Citroen SM.

For me it was AE86 Corollas, back when they were simply "GT Coupes".

Another good shout. I imagine it would be much nicer to drive than the Capri, but are now stupidly expensive for what they are. Also

Achingly cool but wel beyond my repair skills. Almost worth it just for that early dashboard though

If you think a Rover 75 is too old to use as a reliable daily I think you may be on the wrong site

Most of my 75 driving friends have declared they'd be no good for my commute. The early cars are best but rust is starting to take hold in all but the best examples and parts are getting more and more difficult to source, add in 40 miles of crappy, salty Scottish roads everyday and you don't have a recipe for longevity. My 2005 Civic is falling to bits, I don't think a '99 Rover would fair any better...

Interestingly I see far more pre-facelift examples kicking about than later cars, although if build quality was anything like it was on my mate's late model Rover 25 I'm not entirely surprised...

Estimated 15k at auction soon. I have one corroding away on my mother's driveway, it's been there 14 years. Was in good condition when parked up. It's rotten now, I would love to re shell it but lack the skills.post-20502-0-49035600-1483796648_thumb.jpg

Actually this is my dream car and unbelievably it's German.  If I won the lottery tonight I'd buy one tomorrow.

Not just for the styling, but for the fact everyone would want to know what it was.

Definitely the Capri, even though I know it would be shit to drive. It was my favourite car as a kid,  could have bought a tidy one for well under a grand when I started driving, but alas the boat has sailed

All I can say is, drive one. A decent one, not a rotten worn out shed though.

I've had mine since 2001 and wouldn't of kept it if it was shit!

They are a very comfortable and easy car to drive and everything is well laid out. Most of the haters either expect too much or don't have a clue.

If you take it for what it is, they are a fantastic car to look at and to drive. You can see why they vastly outsold all their competitors and why they are still popular now.

You just need to remember they are a very old car now and are very basic and simply built. It's a brilliant car and design but it will not feel like a modern car in any possible way (this is a very good thing!).

If you consider a Capri to drive like shit then frankly you'll also have to think the same about just about any car from the 60's to 80's, which I'm sure all the local pub car experts will tell you but it's not the case. Loads of cars of that age range are brilliant to drive, if you take them for what they are.

Put it this way, there is no car on sale new now that I'd rather drive than my Capri!

Actually I think a Z32 300ZX/Fairlday would be on my list, too. Totally standard and certainly not with one of those awful bodykits they tend to attract.

I'd love a PA Cresta (with the early rear lights) but sadly they are £ now so unlikely to ever be able to afford one

Vauxhall_Cresta_PA_Series_-_Flickr_-_exf

Ever since I was a little kid I have had a thing for BXs. However their complexity puts me off owning one, when you are used to Marinas which are just about the most simple car going these things would be space age in comparison. I know where I am with leaf springs and torsion bars

Citroen-BX_mp17_pic_82787.jpg

Likewise being a wimp puts me off having a P6 with those scary rear brakes but one day I'll get a grip and scratch the itch

roverp61.jpg

Want for an XJS is strong, prices are now on the rise and again the complexity if something went wrong is terrifying. Plus I'd want to use it everyday which would bankrupt me in about a fortnight.

DSCF0159.jpg

I also lust after a Landcrab. A friend of mine had a really nice one for a while but got sick of having to change displacers all the time which puts me off. Likewise owning a 70s BL car with fairly complex sill structure would be a disaster for someone like myself who gets all rosey-eyed over wrecks sitting in a field and will usually buy the worst example going

I bought one to satisfy a long held desire, a four cylinder variant. It was a major disappointment. I found it cramped to drive, my shoulder up against the door when driving. Comical body roll with no real ride comfort advantage and they are an absolute BITCH to work on, everything is needlessly complicated, not just the brakes. The lower timing chain is a horrible job, gapping the bucket and shim tappets is a job you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy, and the bottom end is surprisingly fragile, the big end shell bearings almost a service item. If you get one, get the V8.

Agree on the fulvia. Utterly utterly gorgeous, simple, elegant and sound perfect. Just at the point I figured I could save for one they seemed to go through the roof. £30k for a decent one now?

For me it would have to be the Tatra 603.  Just something about the shape and crazy mechanicals that I really like.
