Should prove to be an economical runabout. 4 or 5 speed? I understand they used VW gearboxes, the traitors.

I think that was on the export/re-import cars they used the LT van box. Always happy to be corrected.

My brother had a BRG clubman in a 1.3 and I remember borrowing it once and being confused as to why anyone would want a mini or a metro for more money than his.

Sadly it ended the same way as all of his cars.

Dead.

Didn't the A series have the gearbox 'in' the sump?

Posted

In the Maestro the gearbox was normal, not in the sump, 1.3/1.6 Maestros used the VW Golf box, the 2.0 EFi and Perky derv used a Honda unit

King of the bargains - and also commas. I wish he'd tell us some of his secrets, but I think he thinks we work for HMRC or something.

There's a man I meet who's right up my street
He's a worker for the shiters
Has been twenty years
And he takes no money off nobody

Nor a shitter off the roads
Puts it on a forum
And never seems to mutter
And he packs his lunch in a "winners" bag
The children call him "Delboy"
He never lets on
But I know 'cause he once told me
He let me know a secret about the money in his kitty
He's gonna buy a three quid car
Gonna call her Maestro
