But the seller has for some reason already given first refusal to a dude coming to see it on Tuesday,

Despite me saying I would go tomorrow. Annoying! Cos it is shit off cheap and has a decent MOT history.

On the slim chance that he contacts me Tuesday and the even slimmer chance that it is worth buying still, any horror stories?

I've never owned a Sanyo before.

It would be a dog carrier/tow/tip etc car, not used daily.

That doesn't look a lot of money. 1 week MOT mind

Will have even less if I get to see it.

There are no horror fails in its history, just a bearing, drop links and expected shit. Unless the clutch is frazzled or the diff sounds like it is making a bid for freedom etc I think it will very much be a case of 'first to see will buy'.

Gah!

Aren't bearings (wheel variety) unobtanium new for some Ssanyong? Not necessarily these, but wurf a check and if so, second-hand availability.

I'm just glad it's not a rodius, which is one of the most hideous cars ever.

This on the other hand looks like it could be a decent workhorse, aren't the oily bits from something refreshingly crude like an old shogun or similar?

Not sure why Ssangyong's styling gets such a kicking when cars like the Peugeot 308 and BMW X6 exist. Peugeot and BMW should and did know better.

Pre CDI Merc engine IIRC.Bonus Manuel so no exploding auto box.Fancy one of these as a yard hack.

I run an elderly Musso as a back up tow car.

Over the years Its been near indestructible, needing little attention between Tickets

It always starts - if the battery has a charge in it! Left several weeks ( often, sometimes , months) the alarm weakens it slowly.

It's a 3.2 merci so a juicy old lump, but it does have some tugging power.

I used and abused it throughout - it's yet to let me down.

Unfashionable does make sense,sometimes.

I'm offering odds of 1:3 on that timewaster is a timewaster and you'll get the call on Tuesday.

Why oh why is he holding it unless maybe a deposit has been paid?

Probably because here in the borders we still are far to trusting and or gullible.

I hope you all know how cheap these are in Ireland; the Rextons are horrible cheap things to drive / sit in, but they're not totally hopeless. Donedeal.ie or adverts.ie is where I'd look to pay not much more for a newer 270; much nicer engine (as long as you and previous owners keep on top of injector leak, plenty don't and the injectors leak and you get merc style problems)

Ssangyong still have dealers here so maybe a source for parts (but I can remember a 2 year old Rodius a few years back needing inner tie rods under warranty and being off the road a month waiting for them, so maybe not great)

Are Kia Sorrentos cheap there? A brilliant jeep for small money here

Oh shit. Now what have I done ?

Isn't there a map with the advert? Roll up there, try and find his house and just say 'is this the car for sale on Gumtree'. If he seems ok just wave the dosh and tell him you'll buy it.

It's bound to arouse his curiousity.

Bring a collection of pictures to add credence to your story.

Reason is he's an honest bloke, given his word and sticking to it.

I sold that way to a bloke from Holland, 2 hours later a bloke I knew rang up. Sorry, I'll let you know if he doesn't come.

Edit, You had better hope he sticks to his word, because now you have splashed it all over here there might be a queue at his door in front of you.

Aye, but would be a waste if time because as said, he is clearly a decent sort who has given his word to the first person that enquired.

He doesn't operate how you, I or anyone else would.

First with the money wins.

Aye, well we aren't the type to do that, around here. :-)

Plus it is as good as out if my grasp now, anyway.

I doubt it, Dave. Anyone going to view an old 4x4 with days worth of remaining MOT can't be too discerning, surely. :-)

Depends what the deal is.

Man says I'll have it, but can't until...............

You reply first come first served.

Or you may reply fair enough I'll wait for you.

Depends why they can't come at once, how you feel at the time, if anyone has ever waited for you.

If your reply is the first one I don't have a problem.

If your reply is the second one and you change your mind and sell to someone else I could sue you.

Sue? Are you having a laugh? :/

Maybe he knows and has reason to trust the interested party. If he does, that makes sense to me.

It does go against this 'Quick sale needed' bit of the ad, mind.

Posted

Hopefully for the sellers sake the first party is decent and not a 'Typical Grumtree Mong' is all i'm sayin'.

Spot on, to be fair no arguing with that.

There was a 65 plate Rexton along the road from me until recently, but it's now been replaced by a 66 plate. Gawd only knows the deal SssssssAngyyyon offered on that. Anyway, just thought I'd share, as you were everyone.

There was one of these on Clevedon seafront when I went out for a walk earlier with the missus.

Couple got in it and tried starting it. Nothing.

Tried again. Nothing.

We carried on walking.

Got to the end of the road, turned back around and walked back.

Couple still in Sssangyon thing, still trying to start it. Nothing was happening.

What a hopeless thing to be broken down in. Not sure why but they were only turning the key for around 5 seconds maximum?

That car made me think of this thread.

That is all.
