After many many years of not taking part in a charity banger rally, the bar stool Jockeys are to return as team 25 in the Benidorm Bangers charity rally in 2017!

Previous rallies have seen many different countries in cars costing no more than £100.

2007 saw the BMW 518i Take us to Rimini in Italy from Calais over 7 mountain passes

beeemer.jpg

2008 Irish Scally rally saw 900 miles over 4 days of horrid A roads. That sierra ate through a brand new lower arm n/s/f in those 4 days!

2010 Saw the Scally Rallys Arctic challenge 3000 miles up to Bodo in Norway. Proper steam train made it all the way with no issue!

2012 The last rally took place through the UK From Caernarfon (SP) to Fort William (A roads again) in the TDDi mondeo

This year I begun to have withdrawl symptoms from doing a Rally. I miss the adventure. So I decided to get the team back together for another run. Scally Rally no longer exisits so we opted for the Benidorm Bangers supporting West yorkshires Air Ambulance. We have decided to raise money for our local Air Ambulance (west midlands). There was no £100 limit, infact we could spend what ever we wanted but theres no point spending £500 on a car, wheres the fun in that??? So I bought this Nazi wagon off a friend of mine. Ohhhh boy its a proper shitter. £150 of the queens finest coin bought us a 1998 Omega 2.5 TD. With MOT till feb17 what could go wrong? Well............. Lots probably. Its been hard trying to find a suitable barge for eating the miles (or KMs) for practically no money. So, the faults so far.....

Cracked windscreen

Heaters stuck on hot (not good for spain in MAY)

Gearbox lazy

Engine noisey (like a scraping kind of scary noise)

Not a straight panel on it (not bothered)

Interioir is MINGING

Somethings knocking underneath

So not much really. lol

Have some pictures of the steed.

Battle scars, will put more in it hopefully

Nearly every panel is held on with self tappers

Check out that interior !

Newness has offically worn off

Its of CDX attyre so hasnt got Aircon as the pump is missing, along with the radiator, and pipework. Central locking kinda works. Sunroof doesnt open..... usual vauxhall additional non additional items.

So all in all, got my work cut out to get it fixed and painted up. Going for a touring car look I think.

Watch this space!

Good luck. I think the locals will see their arses if you try to abandon that at the end of the trip.

Good on you for raising money for charity. I don't see it as a huge challenge to drive 3000 miles in a car that's easily capable of 12,000 between services but whatever turns you on.

If your quick and good with a blade you can have the screen out of the estate one I'm breaking, it's scheduled for the bridge fairly soon and it's in Liverpool , you can add some gold panels to it for a bit of jazz too if you want, let me know!

It's got a Michelin tyre so no expense must've been spared on maintenance. You'll be fine

this looks brilliant, nice choice of car - keep us updated on preparations.

I really want tot do this.

.... sourcing a Toyota, then, would be the 'joypal rally' equivalent of Phoning your performance in.. ?

BonChance monami :)

Spot On.  I did my first Banger Rally this year.

Did the BEN Motor Industry Charity run to Maranello.  https://images.jg-cdn.com/image/e6658dfa-5af4-4689-87bd-70763997fb74.jpg?template=fundraisingpageupdatephotom

Great fun and a great bunch of people and we raised a fortune for charity.  Our 'British Touring Car Clone' Toyota Avensis was sold 'in full livery' through Blackbushe. It has since been taxed for 12 Months so someone is using it.

Be good to see what they have done to it.  It would have taken ages to get all the graphics off it, then there was the Black & Blue paint.  So it would have taken a few hours work to loose its Banger Rally guise, all possible though.

A good car, we put a clutch in it and a full set of belts (Cam, PAS, Alt) and did 5000 miles in, used no coolant and about 2/3 liter of oil.  The EML lamp was on, PO had covered it with Gaffer Tape, we left it as it was, but I think it might have been the air temp sensor on the airbox as that looked suspect, It could have done with a Thermostat in it as coming down the Furka Pass on the overun, the temp guage hit cold.

Enjoy

Lovely interior. I'd prefer to drive a car with an interior like that including the cloth seats and plastic wood than most modern toss where the seats are black leather and the dash looks distracting from every angle.

Posted

being a CDX I was expecting leather, but rather glad it doesnt have it as they get rather hot in sunny climates!

Thanks for the support folks, its all in the name of a good charity that people may depend upon one day. You could easily do it in a new car, but would you trust a ropey old 150 quid omega to do it? Its called a challenge!

Will be changing gearbox oil soon to ward off evil transmisson spirits :-D

Needs a windscreen for MOT. The rest is blaggable

I really want to know how Frank the Continental Lover got his nickname. Presumably nothing to so with the brand of tyre?

Posted

What colour is it? I need a rear passenger door, in petrol Blue (Z20M code) so if it comes back and you are looking at scrapping it, can I have first dips on the rear door.

Posted

Believe it or not, frank has seen more pussy than all of us put together. Hence the nick name. How he does it is a myth.......and I'll leave it at that lmao 😂

Posted

my theory is hes a tripod and he just tells them to feel his length, my god seeing the pictures of the old scally cars brings back some funny memories of days gone by one being too lazy to remove the interior from a shitter before welding it, everyone can guess what happened next

double post but can i suggest painting it up as thunderbird 2

So the omega was a nail and needed too much work to get it back on tarmac with the time I had left to get ready. Sold it to a guy and passed on this websites details for him to join....... afterall, hes just like all of us!

So we bought a Volvo v70 off eVilbay a few weeks back..... 2.4 t5 with over 200k. One family owner since 2001. Rough around the edges, boot doesnt lock, front tyres were borked along with a rack end, and the leather has taken a battering over the years.

I forgot how comfy these were to drive and instantly regretting selling my v70 tdi.

Then the fun began.

A litre of BnM primer and 2 litres of Dulux Weather shield were the cheapest paints to go for.

All in aid of the West Midlands Air Ambulance charity. Total raised so far around £600ish.

If you are going to Paris make sure you get a CRIT'air sticker otherwise there are on the spot fines for not displaying one. Google "certificat qualite de l'air" They cost 4.80 euro delivered to the UK. All cars that enter Paris must have one. http://www.rac.co.uk/drive/news/motoring-news/law-change-for-uk-drivers-in-french-cities/

One step ahead of ya pal ;-)

The rolls royce silver shadow with a cummins 6bt thrown in it will struggle to even get IN paris lmao
