Shit Gear: Soviet Style

So. Are those people filming themselves caning other peoples cars, or did the own the others and not the Samara?

They didn't own any of them, they were all cars in the auction.

I guess you would have to check the small print in your cone-tract with the auction place.  I expect it may authorise them to allow journo's to photograph/drive/film the vehicles entered.  It generates publicity for the auction after all.

On a related matter, I have virtually zero interest in Youtube vids that primarily feature a talking head prattling on about the car whilst they drive around.  Show me the car for goodness' sake, not your ugly mug!  No offence to the guys on here that make such films... Horses for courses etc...

Imagine you were selling a car and the potential buyer turns up and rags the shit out of it.

The auction manager did ask if I had any issues with them test driving it but I never would have agreed if I knew they were going to do that.

You just don't do that kind of thing to somebody else's car.

If I was selling a car and someone drove it flat out in second for as long as possible to see how fast it would go while giggling, I'd make a written complaint thier employers. Or punch them in the throat.

How on earth do these fuck nuggets think they're entitled to do that with someone else's car?

You've every right to be hacked off.

Don't get me wrong, I agree.

Didn't realise they were ragging the fook out of 'em...  See my earlier post viz. not being interested in that type of video.

I suppose it's no different to someone rocking up to a bombsite car lot, taking a test drive and ragging a motor from cold though.  If you were the one who later bought said vehicle you'd never know.  (Unless the evidence was on Youtube, of course.)

I have to be honest, i know we all gave it a bit of a hammering at SF14 but that is a very poor show from them, all 3 cars got a ragging, wheel spinning etc when they don't belong to them. I think I'd be complaining too.

You should be allowed to take their personal cars for a track day at Knockhill.

Eye for an eye, and all that.

That's just not cricket. If Captain Smug and his associates did that to a car of mine they would be receiving a plum battering forthwith.

Poor old Samaratat.

It seems to be a trend with some current journalists in the motoring world. I think largely due to a complete lack of mechanical sympathy but a knack of being able to write things that people will read. That and being children who have been bought up thinking the way Top Gear crucify some of the cars that appeared on the show is proper jounalism.

Verdict - Not impressed at all but neither am I surprised.

That standard of driving unfortunately ties with the experience of some friends. When it comes to (more than you would expect) journos.

I have to tread a bit carefully here, but my working life is mired by people thinking I'm going to drive their cars like that. Where possible, I always get the owner to drive their car with me in it first, so I can see how they drive it. If they rag it silly, then I will. If they don't, I won't.

Bang out of order that in my book. I would be complaining to them if it was my car. Just not on.

I can't be arsed to click the video, I'd just be upset that someone claiming to be a journalist who has to dress up like a fat james may Posing with my car without my permission

If I was the buyer of any one of those three cars, I'd be pretty hacked off by now - "never raced or rallied".

You're right to be pissed off about that. The fact they've ragged the shit out of the lot of them is a very poor show. I'd definitely be having a word with the employer. As someone above mentioned, the attitude of those three ex-TG buffoons have made some 'journos' assume that it's ok to treat someone else's car with no respect whatsoever. This lot are obviously deluded and think they're minor celebrities or something. I wonder if the Fiat owner knew his or her pride and joy was being hammered by a knobjockey with a camera and a poor attitude towards other people's property?

Just received this from Calum who is seen driving the Samara in the video.

I've seen your YouTube comment. Big man hiding behind a keyboard - not sure what has gotten into you but instead of bad mouthing us to people who don't know us - how about you explain to us what the issue is?

To be fair I bad mouthed them to people that do know them too...

He wonders what the issue is, he must know that its not acceptable to treat other peoples property in this way surely?

Just in case that one gets deleted (like, for example, they didn't like the comments...) there's another one.

Don't worry I made my own.

Is that sort of " test" driving what they do when they take a traders car out for one of those little features among the classifieds where they test one of the ads? Also that talk earlier about potentially buying the car in retrospect seems a sneaky way of softening up the vendor. I know I would be more accommodating if I thought there might be a reasonable chance of a sale/ more bidding. Doesn't sit well with me.

Yeah, If you read this thread from the start you can see various forum members treating me like a knob because I was unhappy about being misled with what their real intentions were regarding the Samara.

I had a gut feeling that they were probably doing something like they did in the video but with no way to prove it at the time there wasn't much I could say or do.

The car sold to an online bidder who when collecting the car had to deal with a driveshaft that happened to have popped out of the gearbox. I can only imagine the kinds of abuse these three subjected the car to that didn't make it into the video.

Maybe I should wait until one of them is selling a car, turn up, rally the absolute fuck out of it then not buy it.

I wonder how that would go?

That is unspeakably wrong! What's their YouTube channel called?

Name calling isn't cool mate. Nor accepted in our industry. So you can ignore me, or you can explain yourself.

Should I send him a link to this thread?
