you know your a DVLA sad bastard when, example 37: your able to spot even a suffix age related registration marks just by sight

and indeed looking deeper into it, twas originally ROO777R until robbed of its mark on the 1st of of September 2019 and given TLJ293R as an age related replacement mark

its kinda extra sad when not even suffix/prefix cars are safe these days from plate robbery,

no mention of it in its upcoming auction

https://auctions.hampsonauctions.com/auction/lot/14-1976-reliant-kitten-dl/?lot=1496

I wonder if its even known, or has its history has now been severed/lost so to speak? (as I see it has had a few keeper changes since the plate robbery)

A Unic MZ transporter about to depart SIMCA's Villaverde factory with a load of 1000's, 1968. I'm sure someone can help with the US ones.

The banner on the side of the trailer provides a big clue.  1960 Plymouths for the Michigan State Police.  These appear to be Fleet Specials, which were very basic, even below the Savoy (the base civilian model).  Note these are all two-doors, which means these would have almost certainly been used as Highway Patrol cars.  Highway Patrol cars are typically used for speed and traffic enforcement and, as such, aren't used to carry "perps" in the back seat.

Anyone here know much about the Spanish Dodge 300 trucks?

Ive only recently found out they were actually imported to the UK and apparently we’re reasonably popular!

Here are a couple of photos of my friend Niall's ERF EC14, which he takes to truck shows and in turn uses to transport his tractors to tractor shows:

Got to love the EC range. Apart from the Foden Alpha, they are my favourite late-era British trucks. I'm hoping to have a drive in it one day :)

My old boss bought a couple of brand new Spanish Dodge 8 wheel tippers in 1980, apparently they gave good service and were well liked.

I don't recall ever seeing one myself, but they were apparently well-liked by drivers and were pretty rapid:

I’ve never seen one either. If you look on Flickr there’s loads of them with uk plates on. Artic’s and rigid’s. Some of the later ones have Renault badges on after Chrysler Europe sold up to Renault, same as what happened to the Dodge 50 vans.

Reason I ask, I’ve just bought a nice 1:43 model of the Spanish Dodge in tractor unit form that I’m intending to repaint into a British style truck.

I think they had rust problems to various parts of the cab sheet metal but apart from that were, seemingly, pretty robust good trucks.
I keep seeing photos of a yellow 4x2 heavy recovery truck used for towing old buses, so they must have been around… I just haven’t ever seen one!

A nice article about a restored 300: https://heritagemachines.com/restorations/dodge-300s

Going into total recall mode, I'm pretty sure that a friend of my father ran a 300 in the early 1980s, which pulled a low loader as part of his plant hire business. I definitely remember him running an example of the earlier K Series and a Volvo F86.

@danthecapriman I don't know much about them but someone locally obviously does as there are a couple that come to shows.  These are reposted from earlier in the thread.  I think they are based near Shobdon in Herefordshire.

Any idea what this wagon is? Has the look of an early Iveco model from FIAT or Magirus Deutz, the badge looks like an OM but in all cases the grille is far to narrow.

This is the early Iveco design I'm thinking of -

I've always thought that US fire engines look a bit old fashioned, this one even has a bell!

Here’s a quick question for all you big rig fella’s…

How come lots of the European manufacturers of commercial vehicles didn’t import or even build their trucks here in the UK?

Theres so many makes (back in the good old days I mean!) that came from Europe and were very very popular there but for some reason never made it over here. Berliet for example. Was it as simple as they decided the domestic products popularity meant it was unlikely their stuff would sell here? Couldn’t be arsed with the hassle of right hand drive? Maybe our little island wasn’t thought of as a substantial enough market?

I just think it’s weird how we’re so close physically to the European mainland yet we got bugger all from them really truck wise. Cars obviously made it here and sold well enough for the most part.
