ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE DIESEL 4X4 37 GRAND *RANT INCLUDED*

Recommended Posts

Brand new, 2.0 four cyl diesel. M Sport (innit). With optional auto, GM quality plastics and horrendous noise as standard as well as slightly rubbish stereo, a mere £37'250.

It's not an X5, or even an X3. It's an X1 - the really shit one.

Thirty seven thousand pounds. I shit you not. The super wank FWD only 1.8 version is £28'000. Next time you see a Juke, mentally congratulate the owner for paying half as much, if that.

No. Well deduced.

Maybe I'm out of touch, but I see other stuff of this ilk (Quashquaiii, Vitara, the Kia one etc for around 18 big ones.. So this thing should be 25 grand...........right? I nearly fell over when they said how much it was. Add cruise control and a set of decent speakers (Corden HardOn or something) and it would be just shy of forty grand.

Real Housewives of Cheshire and other clueless idiots, queue here. BMW must laughing up their sleeve. :-D

I'm getting to the point where I think £370 is a bit pricey.

it's not 40 grand though, is it.

It's only 299.99 a month, (every month, for ever to not own it)

and it's got a bmw sticker on it and they're like, yuno, dead posh.

[ ] I've just bought a Rover and there's mayo in the oil filler cap, do you think it'll be alright?

[ ] The banger boys will probably steal it

[x] All modern cars are crap

Is that Montego blue? Thats another reason I dont like these ugly bastards. When I'm surfing for old Montegos on Ebay, it gives me these things!

Estorial blue innit.

All modern cars are not crap. Really, this isn't crap - it's just not worth the money.

I don't care much for the automobile in question but the colour that it is equipped in is rather delightful to the eye in my humble opinion.

As usual with these OMG NEW CARS R SO EXPENSIVE, this is what really matters:

http://www.whatcar.com/car-leasing/deals/bmw/x1/?type=business

Starting from £300 p/m with VAT.

Almost no-one buys cars in cash. In fact a lot of the finance deals give more of a discount than if you pay cash and work out cheaper.

Why? Because cheap money and people get hooked with a continued cycle of getting brand new cars.

I have no problem if some dumbo wants to lose all their money on one of those.

In fact, it'll give me a good laugh when they pull up next to me at the lights with a pair of freshly-fitted WanLing tyres begrudgingly thrown on the filthy alloys  :-D

^^^ a totally correct look into the future . I get so many nice cars in that have the cheapest rubbish tyres on scuffed and filthy wheels .

The money to buy a car ( or have it on the never never ) is one thing but running it with out cutting corners is another entirely .

Last week I had a focus st mk2 with enduro runways on the front ( over 200 hp mind ! ) and a tuned (300+hp) Astra vxr with three a's up front .

all the high end company cars at work have shit rubber fitted. and are always filthy. Whenever I park the xantia it's in the same state but cost less than 1 months payment (I saw some invoices on the lease last week)

I spent £200 on rubber for the focus - car is worth £500. My life is worth much more.

I have seen so many bmw's with landsail rubber I am beginning to think they must be OE equipment.

Bloke in the tyre fitters earlier paid £65 for his "tyre" then jumped in his Range Rover Spurt. My tame tyre fitter conceded that the tyre was shite but "I have to sell what people want to buy".

As for the above X1, yes nice car, nice colour, nice specification. But not 37k nice.

I expect it emits as much CO2 as a sparrows fart, but it would have to be taxed negatively to possibly save money vs £300 a month indefinitely.

The cost of a reasonably specced 114d is eye-watering when you compare what you can get from Korea for the same price tag....even the V40 will come with a more powerful engine and dead cow.

If the X1 can be had for just under 40k, I hate to think what those gargantuan GT hunchback things are from the factory...

Ill be doing the same when I can afford it on my £250 car. I drive it 55 miles a day, most of that on the m40, and at the tiny amount extra to part worns vs the length of time they last its an easy choice imo.

My £400 318i Touring has five new Goodyears, spare included. I wanted A rated wet grip - most tyres grip quite well in the dry.

Landsail are actually pretty good. I had a set on a Merc and they were fine, contrary to me low expectations. Halfords retail them and you can bet they've researched carefully - they wouldn't want bad press or pissed off customers. Davanti are alright as well.

114i is 21 grand, Kia C'eed with air con is £14'900.

Fool+money = soon parted.

I've just left a VAG outfit.  We sold a staggering amount of tyres.  And the number one brand?  Landsail.  I kid you not.  Â£40k worth of car, just been serviced at £115 per hour and we fit tyres which have a tread cut with a knife and fork.

And anyone who believes the European Tyre Ratings are honest wants banning from this forum.

I've pulled out for 8 new Pirelli Scorpion Verdis this year (4 of which went on my 13 year old Land Rover).  BTW, although they are bought through the trade, they aren't that much more than retail priced Landfails.  They're also made in Carlisle.

I HATE cheap tyres.

Sorry for the thread drift.

I've just been on the BMW site and configured a 528i SE in Jet black with auto transmission , brown leather sat Nav, dab etc etc . I even specced slightly upgraded but still 17" alloys- all for £37,240.

Why would someone pay the same for a faux off reader that looks like something a Korean designer would look at and think " Nah, I can't get away with something that ugly"

I hired a 320d Touring Sport a few months ago - 2016 16

List price just under £37,000.

Can buy a pre registered 340i for less!

At £27 a day it was a BARG though!

when the tread starts getting low on mine I start watching black circles and the like daily.

I'll only buy "wet grip A" rated tyres, and if you scan it daily you'll pick up an offer on branded types soon enough. I trust the known brands' self tested and awarded rating more than those less established names. This may be foolish.

Never paid more than £60 quid a corner, fully fitted yet. Last 3 sets purchased were Dunlop, Avon and Michelin. All wet grip A.

I never used to be a tyre snob and for many years used partworns or nip nip slidemasters on cars and bikes, but with internet magic sometimes pushing the prices to cost, it's just not worth it imho, especially as poor tyres can (if you're unlucky) quickly cost you way more money than you saved.

When you want them, really really really want them to work you'll be glad you didn't save the fiver a corner. (And any old nail of a car or bike feels good with new shoes.)
