Is that Galant

One of these

Or one of these

If the latter, it seems like a lot of money for a nothing 626,Primera clone.

Also on what planet is the number worth £600 or whatever?

Although it is educational I suppose, I didn't even know you could get venereal disease from mutual oral genital stimulation.

If we'd known about that C5 at Chumblebumley, Ian could have just left the Rover in the field and gone home via Whitchurch...

Yes, they were just before Mitsubishi tried to go mainstream and boring.

This doesn't look a bad price if it really has got Full Hond history and 59k on it.

I thought the Coupes only came in V6 flavour. My Japanese knowledge is very lacking, if only there was a magazine to educate me...

Every C5 I've recently seen has been broken down on the side of the road, to be honest i really like the look of the Carina i posted, nice colour and spec but the auto box is probably not ideal?

No, I think I'd actually like a slush box to be honest. Just one that has more than has rather taller gearing than the Colt please.

Sounds like the perfect car then, it's not a million miles away, it's within budget (maybe well within if your haggling skills are strong) and you can't really go too far wrong with a Carina when it comes down to the oilly bits, Avon tyres being fitted is a good sign too i always find, shows it's probably been cared for.

Plus it's Japanese and would make a good feature about 90s family hatchbacks or even the whole Carina E backstory with the Japanese/Britain build thing that was going on.

Indeed.

I did the whole backstory in issue number 1! Though it has sold out on its limited run, so maybe I'll do it again.

If 6 cylinders is no longer a requirement, then maybe the baby Honda Coupe may be an idea?

Full service history, recent cambelt change, long MOT, bonnet that looks like a woman in high heels has been practicing the tango on it....

£300

I'm rubbish. The Carina E was ticking all the boxes, but then I had a horrifying attack of "but it is quite dull though."

So I found a nice-looking fifth-gen Celica. Mrs DW took one look at the seats and said 'no way.'

By which time the S-MX chap got back to me to confirm no details of a timing belt change in the history. There's movement on the price, but is it enough to tempt me? I'm waiting to see if Twosmoke's cheap timing belt offer still stands before plotting my next move, but if I got a train down to Plymouth on Sunday, it'd only be £52.

Don't worry - I'd probably try and hole up with family on the Sunday. Thanks. Let's see how this goes...

I don't know much about S-MXes so googled them, this image came up - the caption was in Japanese and I'm not sure I want to click on it..

Make sure you keep this image in your mind when you speak to the seller.

You have PM Mr Twosmoke. I, on the other hand, now have concerns thanks to the above picture...

This is a great thread, a guilt free trip through car buying without the bill or earache from SWMBO!

IMPROMPTU CORNISHSHITE MEET.

Indeed. I may need to find a quiet corner in which to test my new 'bed.' (that isn't a dogging invite...)

I was going to say I'm not far from TwoSmoke if you wanted to check it over, but you're seeing the subject matter expert first :D

I might pop over in the afternoon and say hello if I'm free, it would be nice to meet some fellow shiters and find the garage for when MrsH finally lets me take her car for a headlight adjustment!

If you need a lift to collect I may be back in Plymouth Saturday/Sunday, so can drop you with the seller.

Builders in at the moment, so unfortunately can't offer bed and board.

Thanks for the offer. Seller is happy to collect me from the station.

Ugh. Paying for this thing is proving a bit of an arse. He hasn't ticked the Paypal option, so having finally confirmed that there is no postage due, I've reached a dead end. Bit wary of just asking for his Paypal details as doesn't that bypass any buyer protection on Ebay? I note Paypal does not offer protection for vehicle purchases. Maybe I'll just offer a deposit via Paypal, which is what I'd normally do anyway.
