pug 206sw, new interior fitted, killed the Kirby

Was looking for a cheap motor as a back up/spare from the funds left from Punto sale. Quite fancied a little 206 as for some reason my particle insurance company don't want to rip me off to change to one of these. Had a look at a few advertised as yes great condition mate. but in reality were scrap yard fodder. Today a little 206sw came up on facebook, low miles good mot history....but an ex painters and decorators vehicle. Car was checked and found to be body pretty good, mechanical perfect and drove nice. The less said about the interior the better! So here's what £250 gets you, better pictures tomorrow if anyone is interested. Plans are to gut the interior, take it to work and hit it with the hot truck wash and some TFR and see if it comes up any cleaner.  A gallon of CIF should sort the plastics out. Need a boot carpet and those huge roof bars are coming off!

Nice purchase! Need interior pics!

will take some tomorrow before i start stripping it out. back seats are fine as i think they've been folded down for a while. Front seats/door trims and glovebox lid all have paint splashes. I've never seen so much grime on interior plastics. Boot carpet is missing and there is a huge paint stain over the boot floor and rear trim panel. i'm hoping most of it will be salvageable with some loving!

First job is to get the roof bars off as i've cracked my head on them already! Oh and photo is from the sellers address in a dubious area of coventry.

Boot floor paint stain is easy to sort.

1- buy replacement carpet

2 - fit replacement carpet

Voila! Boot paint stain can no longer be seen! Try it, it definitely works!

I've spent the past 8 months constantly repairing my mates "low mileage" 1100cc dread-mobile. The standard brakes are dire milk bottle tops, i hate it. Hope yours is better!

Brakes seem great, stops well and in a straight line and handbrake works ok too. Took some pictures of the worst bits before I left for work. The paint seems to scrape of the dash plastics with your thumb nail so hopefully most will come off. The drivers seat is the worst, unfortunately some of it is mastic so doubt that will remove easily if at all.

On the plus side whilst browsing ebay on my break tonight I found a genuine boot mat for a fiver in coventry, so duly purchased it. Then blow me I found a genuine pug rubber boot protector for a tenner also in cov so got that as well.

Have some pics of the manky interior.

Wire brush and dettol.

Sorry, toothbrush and stardrops! Nice motor especially for the price. Brand new cars fetching 250 now.

I've heard about stardrops, what exactly can you use it to clean?

Had an hour or so before rain stopped play. found some spray on carpet cleaner and attached the door trims, and mr muscle all over the plastics. The paint or adhesive comes off with some scrubbing.  Quite pleased with progress and definitely  smells better. I have never seen dirt so ingrained into trim, used the scouring side off a sponge which gave good results. My vac just won't pull the dirt out the carpets and side panels, its so ingrained. Going to do what my local polish car cleaners do and invest in a stiff brush to get it out. Picked up my genuine boot liner which fits perfectly. Have decided the previous user must have been a tiler judging by the amount of tile spacers found. The "paint" in the boot is actually tile adhesive, it scrapes off after softening it up with some thinners. Going to pick up the boot carpet later, the chap is breaking a whole estate and has offered me the complete interior for £50 if i remove it myself. Its has blue infill panels on the seats and door trims though, would that go with a silver car? I need a headrest anyway and the thought of a nice fresh interior really appeals. Not quite up to vulgalour standards, still need to clean up the air vents and fiddly bits with a tooth brush to get it presentable. At least its a bit more presentable now.

Actually after looking at those pictures i think a blue interior would be an improvement!

just been playing with this and discovered it had an opening glass on the tailgate! Judging by the grime around the frame its not been opened in many a year. Fitted the new wheel trims i had in the sale section which happened to the exact ones fitted to the car. Was all set to take it into work tonight and hit the outside with the industrial hotwash but found a nasty cut and bulge in the front tyre. Will get a second hand one  fitted tomorrow.

Blue would deffo look better. Good work! CiF works well on plastics.

You`re making a really good job of that - looking forwards to the next instalment !

I find a rug doctor is ideal for carpet cleaning in automobiles

I'd take the interior. Anything goes with silver and it's a very easy way to improve the car. Seats, lower dash, door cads is pretty easy to sort.

Posted

I've heard that a good way to clean carpets is to take them out and jetwash them. I'm thinking of doing that with the 850's carpet this year.

Complete interior collected including  centre console and all the boot trim panels and carpet, £60. The boot carpets fetch £20 on ebay so happy with that. took me an hour to strip the interior.  But, I never realised that my pug has a black dash and  the donor was grey. will see what it all looks like fitted but knowing my ocd and the fact the dashboard has a few marks on it I know at some point a new dash will be fitted! At this rate it would have been better to have spent more money on a nbetter one but where's the fun in that! so far including insurance refund costs the car stands me at £320, so not much really.

Thought I'd quickly clean a door card and fit it just to see how much the colour mismatch will annoy me. Its not too bad actually. had to use the black wing mirror interior covers as they have tweeters fitted, the replacement didn't. Think it will be ok, whats your verdict? at the end of the day its a not particularly interesting or rare car so will always be a banger. but at least it will be clean and tidy inside. looks  better than the bloody pink anyway!

Fuck the colour - at least it's clean.

To be honest it looks as if the interior could crawl out of the car.

The seats and door trims are rank, the boot is minging but the carpet is good, just my vac is useless at picking it up. got a bid on ebay for a cheap one which hopefully might do it. got three Kirby vacs in the house(don't tell beko!) but the impellers don't like grit and I'm not prepared to ruin one. The doors panels have gone mat and chalky after their cleaning with the CIF and look rubbish again. I'll scrub under the seats when they are out and then get a £15 quid valet done down the local car wash and let them ruin their vac. I have every trim panel to replace in the boot area so all evidence of its builders van life will hopefully be gone.

It looks OK. You wont notice it after a while.

Good luck with it. I need to get on with the Alfa after shitefest

You know you can get metal fans right? Kirby love grit, you could write that 206 off by hitting it enough with a Kirby!

I used a Kirby g5 as a daily for a number of years and it was gr9 at car interior cleaning!

Posted

The fan I trashed was on a early heritage, I believe the later generation kirby's have far better, stronger fans, a g5would have the one that they reckon can suck up bullets, always handy in america!

Posted

Or just buy another few fans and change when it happens!

Once you get the 206 vaguley clean the Kirby will be fine! Once the bits of tile and rubble are sorted anyway!

Posted

Plus mine was a g5 that cost me a tenner from the car boot, so my worries about breaking it were possibly less than yours!

Posted

I had 9 at one point, every model from a traditional upwards. Now only have a G3,4,and 7. Most expensive was £15. I'd forgotten about the improved fans on the newer ones so will give the G4 an airing with the rotary brush and see if that works.
