I would like an Austin Metro, but will consider Rover ones too.

Ideally a 998, and if an automatic, even better.

Basically, I want an undesirable one!

Where else can you ask for a car and in a few minutes you get offered a free one? Class. Off to start a thread

Good luck with the hunt - the autobuggery A-series was 1275 only. ;-)

Excellent start. Can't argue with the price tag, but too new for classic insurance.

Cheers for the info M'coli, I didn't know that.

Here's the two I have my eye on...

As a back up plan, I'm also looking at early Nissan Micras and Reliant Robin / Rialtos!

The Slushmatic 998cc was available on the Mini so raping a mini to drop into a Metro shouldnt be too hard - the engine mounts are all the same.

Nah, you need a blue Citroen AX.

That little black VDP looks GR12

You recently missed a nice white Clubman 1275 in Rochford, G reg IIRC on local plates. Went for piss all on Gumtree.

I've bought it! Collecting Thursday - no collection thread though, as using Shiply.

Looks a little more 'tired' in the flesh, but is a good honest little car, 95,000 miles, gearbox feels smooth, starts first turn of the key, is a lovely little thing.

oh look at posh paws!!

wants a mini metro, and goes and buy a Vanden Plas Metro.....

suit you sir, well bought!!

shame about the laquer peel on the roof, but otherwise it looks a lovely little thing.

Lovely. Is there much history with it?

Might be worth lobbing a disklok on if it's living outside.

Thats a beauty! Please try and resist dropping the suspension and sticker bombing it though! She's too lovely for that!

+1 on DEFINITELY using a disclok on it when parked outside.

as i woke up one morning to find that my metro had disappeared one morning, that is something that is worth spending a few quid on.

ok, i did get mine back but i still had the damage to put right on the car, and there are now that few metro's of all types left now, each one is special!

and yes, draining the fluid out of the suspension, sticker bombing or any other form of pineappling may* result in a visit from "the boys" who will explain why that would be such a bad thing.

a very bad thing.

very, very bad.

That does look nice. Metro's are a great spare car, buy now before prices rocket.

I bought this 1.1s today,no mot, but low mileage, many new parts and lots of service history for £250.

That is very nice, I don't think I have seen a Vanden Plas Metro before, which is a shame as they look lovely (but then again, it only takes a bit of chrome and wood to make me think that a car is great).

But I can't believe how much that Seat towered over the Metro. I knew that they were small, but not that small.

That is just so 1989! Austin Rover were on the money at the time with the 'Victoriana' detailing on their luxury models.
