It's a 1989 Mega-early mk2, G-Limited T-bar import. Plenty of toys, 158bhp, unblown.
 
Some background: My first impressions from collection in 2013:
 

[On arrival, we] had a quick poke around The Merde, and were pleased to see that, as I had suspected from the listing, it wasn't nearly so rusty as most cheap MR2s. The sills and arches seem nice and solid, and with a quick glance over, there only seems to be a few minor scabby bits in other areas. Yes, there might be some surprises to come, but it's not a rot-box.
We opened the engine cover and 'frunk', checked the levels, and then had a fiddle with the roof glasses. Once out they were stashed behind the seats and strapped in. It would be rude not to drive away with the roof off - this is my first open-topped motor.

 

Started fine (with the sound behind me), no smoke or noises, gearchange is a bit sticky going into first, and the clutch is a bit high, but it's all good really. The seats are a like a big warm hug, the car is all around me as I've never felt before. Taking it easy up the lanes, it's pretty refined and civilised, but sounds great when you floor it. The brakes are spot on, the cornering is flat and predictable. If this thing has PAS, it certainly isn't over-assisted like some Jap stuff.

Good god, the best £450 I've ever spent!

This is easily the quickest n/a 2.0 I've driven, before or since.

The car lived in the lean-to opposite our house, and the shed's roof is almost ground level behind. The cow must have got spooked and jumped the little wall. Rural interwebs FTL, I'm trying to upload a vid of the MR2's first start in three years!

I finally sourced a good battery that'd actually fit in the slot behind the spare this week. I gave it a trickle for a couple hours to be sure, then this happened:

I remember you rushing off after getting a phone call saying a cow was on the roof. I thought you were taking the piss and just didn't want to talk to us until I saw the pictures.

 

I would've been all over this as I had the right horn for it when I last saw it but sadly I have Imp Jr. now and a 2 seater won't do and Mrs Imp would think I just bought it so that I wouldn't have to take her anywhere.

 

That is a very VERY good reason to get it but the couple if hours peace every now and then are not worth the lifetime of constant reminders of the time I bought the two seater car for a family of three.

OK, OK the cow had a breather on in the roof for a bit, then clambered out and scarpered. Local angry farmer was angry, and blamed me for putting it there(!), what a knobjockey he is.

 

Also, PM space made!

It crawled out happily enough, struggling a bit against binding brakes (rusty disks or...?) No, I didn't have it parked up with the handbrake on! So they might free up with some use.

 

 

 

 

The gear-change cables also feel a stiffer than I remember, though Flossy doesn't consider that a problem.

The tyres stayed pumped up well didn't they? That's because I reconditioned the alloys before it was parked up. Assorted brands*, legal tread. The wheels are the original 14" staggered type (wider on the back). Centre caps present.

 

 

Face-off with its replacement. I still prefer the look of the MR2, and it'd be a more pactical car to live with. I'm sorry I've replaced it rather than getting back on the road again.

Doing that I realised that this was the first time I've ever washed it. (I've not cleaned the MX-5 yet, either   ) I know, I'm a bloody scruff.

 

 

I don't deserve owt with such an elegant form.

 

 

Water weeping in there a bit. The car's dry inside as it has always lived under cover with me.

 

 

Much of the paintwork is shit close up, but I think it's still an impressive looking machine from a few paces away.

That's bloody tempting, but Mrs CW has told me in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS that more than one of the fleet has to go before I can do something as rash as buy this off you. Plus I have no more parking spaces left.

Man, it really sux having no NCB and getting the licence abroad. Even at 38 yo I still get stupid insurance quotes like this for social and pleasure, third party, fire and theft, and only 3000 miles per year.
