It's Monday and that means...

He said he'd put veg in in the past and it was ok and reckons it's Bosch pump, but I've not looked too hard yet. Drove a treat coming home, far quicker than I expected.

Is it the 1.4 or 1.5? I used to have the 1.4 and it was painfully slow but truly frugal on fuel. I strugged with the pedals though and my size 10 work boots.

I tried a 306 when they first came out. French people must have really small feet.

If the shoe shops are anything to go by, they do.  In the same way I am Mr Normal in the USA, I am Mr Freak size in France.

It's a 1360cc, early one by the pictures!  Re the 106 cramped pedals- it's a cliché but you really do get used to them.  My feet are size 10 and I have no trouble.  I'd go as far as saying, anything else feels pretty clumsy afterwards; you can (almost) drive a 106 with your toes!

If its the 1.5 I dont think they came with Bosch - certainly every AX dizzler I have ever clapped eyes on has had the Lucas Pump of Darkness.... That siad Ive run them on Veg.

Swapsies?

Same here, I can jump in a 106 with fuckin gret big clumsy hobnail boots on and drive it hard without feeling cramped or clumsy, but when I first drove one I couldn't find the throttle pedal, every other car I've had I need to put a pair of trainers on to not feel like I'm trying to kick my way through a sandcastle. Maybe it's the way they pedals hinge or something? I dunno

1.4 engine.

I have size 12s and can drive it ok. Dent wise it's not too bad, two or three I think but it has the air of being a cared for car.

That's a mega early Grad? Shame it's not an electric blue Mardi Gras with TFL Peckham plates, they are 4 winnazz

Looks rather nice that - whats up with it?

That looks a brilliant little thing.  Can't imagine a 106 with the 1360 being a ball of fire (my lighter AX with the 1527 was only adequate performance-wise), but it should do about a million to the gallon and keep on plodding away until Doomsday (or until the head gasket goes, whichever comes first).

My next chod will almost certainly be French. I just can't help it. Went out time before time before last whispering "don't buy French, don't buy French" under my breath the whole time and came back with a 2001 petrol one of these. It's like I buy little French turds by osmosis.

Looks nice, but not too nice.

TUD3.. with a Lucas pump !

Aye.

The dashboard in the modern car is very ugly. The 106 is sweet.

Actually, those pedals don't look too badly spaced.

No!

Wernt the 1400's plagued with OMG CGH?

Can't get home ?

Why on a car that can top 60 and sometimes 70 to the gallon does it matter what darn pump it has.

One day I shall have to try one of these with my massive clodhoppers.

Diesel is £1.09 a litre. Waste vegetable oil starts at £free. My van will do 55MPG but I'm not going to use diesel just because it's fuel efficient when it runs happily on oil

TUD3s use an alloy head and block, I think they changed to an iron block to stem cylinder head issues.

Ok, the run down so far:

Came to work in it this morning, heater plug light took a few seconds before going out, car started first time. Seemed a tad hesitant, almost spluttery for the first mile or so, then settled down. Being extra fussy it did feel a smidge out of kilter at times, could just be me though.

Has the expected lacquer peel, mostly roof with some bonnet and boot too, I think.

Brakes stop the car but I'd like them to be better to be honest, would guess new shoes or something would do it.

Seems to be completely standard bar the CD player, has seperate key for passenger door lock, because PSA most likely.

No power steering but genuinely light as on the move. Everything seems to work but haven't tried (manual) sunroof yet. I feel like a gorilla driving it but I'm not uncomfortable! Steering wheel a bit chewed at the top.

Actually quite fun to drive, very much like a slightly better built AX I suppose, which is it what it was supposed to be I'd have thought.

Thought: could rumours of HGF be related to the seemingly crap air flow to the radiator, as the front 'grille' is just filled in from the factory I think, so more of a bonnet extension?

They HGF in the AX too and it has a slightly different front end but you might still be right

Love a phase 1 106!
