Christina's uhh.. collection...

Welcome Christina!

Fantastic collection, re: the GXL upgrade - an uncle of mine did something similar with his Mk3, although this was in the early '80's! I still remember the wood-capped door cards and that dashboard!

Dad had a Mk5, so your Taunus brings back a few memories, although he had a 2.0GL - your Ghia is a bit posh! I have always loved those wheels :)

The Cavalier brings back a few memories too. The fabric falling apart was a pretty common 'thing' back in the day, I think it was the sunlight degrading the fabric. The same thing happened to the top of the rear bench seat in Dad's Mk5 Cortina (and that was back in the late '80's) so it certainly wasn't something unique to Vauxhall.

GLWTS.... Honest ad for a piece of iron (NOT FeO2) for less than the cost of welding up a DOG!!

That good an offer will have "well, pet...." tyre kickers crawling out of the woodwork :(

GR8 mottah :)

Nice collection.

Have had several Cortinas but banger raced them all ( except one ) but years ago when they were worthless. Felt guilty about the last one though, it wasn`t bad at all but they just weren`t worth anything then.

Also I had a pea green Cavalier Mk1 with a black vinyl roof. Always fancied another. They were a joke back then though, I paid £100 for mine, ran it round for a bit then sold it to a friend for £30. Then it broke down and he dumped it by the side of the road. It was there for quite a while....

Anyway I digress....  I have a car trailer and a towcar. I really like your Cavalier. I know where Scotland is. Maybe a deal could be done.....  :-D

By the way I no longer banger race. The last one was 15 years ago. I`m now a collector of classics and shite....

I had someone come to view the car today, and they've made a pretty decent offer and they're going to leave a deposit tomorrow. They're really local too which makes things pretty easy so sort out. They've got a lovely mk3 cav too so It's going to a good home.

Hurrah. Even more scouse/wooly backs on here. Welcome!

Deposit in hand for the Cav, if I held out for longer I could possibly have gotten a little more, but I've got enough to transport my Taunus which was the priority as it's stored at a friend of the seller's unit so I want to get that sorted soon as possible.

It's been a hell of a weekend! 800 miles in my trusty Mondeo. 300 on saturday, Half of which towing another mondeo my friend bought.

Then a 500 mile round trip (499.5 to be exact) to Southend on Sea to collect a GXL interior :D Converted my Mondeo to van mode by removing the rear seats. I was hoping to put the cortina rear bench where the mondeo one sat, but it was too wide!

Then I found a vulcan! I love the vulcan, I can't believe I'll never see one in the skies again though :(

After collecting the bits we spent the evening in Southend, which was actually a lot of fun. Wasted a few quid on the 2p machines :D

Then the next day the chap who bought the cavalier came to collect it, he couldn't stop smiling which makes me really happy. I was so scared that it might end up going to someone who'd break it or not look after it. So I feel much better.

So off she goes. I'm a little sad, but happy that the Taunus is coming soon. My mum thinks there'll be time to clean the drive! oooopsy!

After that I decided to unload the car, and check my loot :D

10 door cards in all, sadly I still need to find a drivers front.

and some great condition seats, a couple of little tears but hopefully it won't be too expensive to get them repaired.

I'm still exhausted, that was a hell of a weekend!  My transport guy is going for the Taunus tomorrow, so expect lots of piccies soon :D

Lovely Cortinas, nice to see a Mk2 Mondeo being looked after as well. I remember the Zetec model well, very popular with private punters as you could get one for LX money if you phoned around (and by this stage 1999-2000 they were all several grand cheaper than list price anyway).

How did the Taunus find its way over here?

Posted

I actually have no idea, the seller told me it came from sweden, but the dealer sticker in the window suggests it's from switzerland. I'll have to ask him about it actually.

Simple.

Have a look in the glovebox,

if you find an Ikea receipt it's Swedish,

an army knife it's Swiss. :-D

still got mine bought from Shiterider

Is that. Factory black? Does that mean it was an ex-Forces Staff car?

Incidentally there appears to be anew Google Rule ; if you put the word Cortina into an image search Trigger's bloody car must appear at least 6 times on the first page!

No it was originally titan blue. It's now santorini pearl black (range rover colour) from when i restored it five years ago.

Then it got dark, so proper pics will have to wait till tomorrow.

This shows it is from Switzerland, from the history it looks like it was serviced in the garage it was bought new in up till 2000.

Now the starter seems to have packed in, or got stuck. I'll have to whack it with a big ammer tomorrow see if that gets it going.

Scrubbed up well though

Posted

I spent the morning cleaning it, there seems to be underseal overspray all over it, it's been a nightmare to get off. I managed to clean just under half of it before it started raining. I also cleaned out the interior which cleaned up pretty well. Really need to get a fuel filler flap painted up.

The interior needs another clean, it's like the first clean is to dislodge the dirt, then you have to go over it again. The carpet has faded to green too in lots of places, It has spent most of it's life in the sun. I'll have to dye it a darker brown.
