Lankytim Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Hi ShitterZ, It's time for me to move on from my lovely XM. It's a great car but is very much an "ongoing project" and as a result needs regular fettling and as I already have an Allegro and Minor to molest and devote time to I really need a daily driver that I can just drive and not really think about. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the XM and I'll be sad to see it go. The wife never liked it too much though and my daughter hates riding in the back because it smells of veg oil and the trick suspension makes her seasick! I've owned it for approx 3 years and done stacks of work to it. Anyway, onto business.. 10 Months MOT 213,000 miles, although you'd never tell, it's mega tight to drive Runs on VEG (really well) Electric everything, seats, windows, sunroof, armrest(!!) Half leather interior Absolute weapon for towing and it's the most comfortable car I've ever owned. The original Exclusive alloys buckled so I fitted 16" Volvo V90 alloys which have identical offset. Recent new parts, fitted within the last 18 months include front drop links, rear spheres, front and rear brakes, nearly new part worn tyres on the back, for the last MOT it had new front tyres, new starter motor, new front spheres and the rear axle re-piped due to corrosion of the suspension/brake pipes. This was a turd of a job and cost over £500! In fact for the MOT I've spent much more than the asking price. Doh! There's no rust on the body, although last MOT it had a small patch on the end of the sill, and for the one before it had one each side of the front subframe. A far as XM's go this is one of the best body wise. Parts like the rear axle mounts, floors, front bumper mounts and sills are all sound. The engine runs a treat and had a new glow plug relay and two good used glow plugs fitted recently. As mentioned, it runs brill on veg oil. I've been using filtered waste veg and have been getting over 50mpg on a run, but at 25ppl the MPG is less of an issue. It's due a cam belt change soon though. Clutch and gearbox are both good. BAD POINTS. All panels have a dent or scratch Bumpers scraped Lacquer peel on roof Central locking on passenger front and drivers rear door unlock when they feel like it. The ABS packed up and for the MOT before last I swapped the light up logo on the dashboard for the ABS for the Hydractive suspension system, so when the ignition was turned on it looked like the ABS light was lighting then going off, however the Hydractive has gone faulty so that light doesn't work either now. It does it from time to time and cab be reset with a LEXIA program on an old laptop. I do have a LEXIA, but it's at a mates being set up. If it goes for the asking price I'll throw it in. I never investigated what the problem was with the ABS, probably a sensor. I'm sure there are other vital points that I've omitted but I'll add them when I remember. PICS.. Bren, Cavcraft, cort16 and 5 others 8
beko1987 Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Daaam that's sexy! My XM did the same with the hydractive and a good leaxia-ing sorted it right out. Hope this stays in the fold!
Lankytim Posted March 21, 2016 Author Posted March 21, 2016 May just ROFFLE this if there's no interest. Cavcraft 1
BorniteIdentity Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 This both arouses and terrifies me at the same time. In equal measure. I'd suggest starting the auction this weekend when we're all under the influence of a 4 day payday weekend. glws myglaren, beko1987 and pompei 3
dollywobbler Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I'm tempted myself, and I've already got one - albeit povo spec with feebler engine gruntings.
Supernaut Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Those Volvo wheels are just the icing on the cake. They suit it so well! rml2345 and chodweaver 2
jonathan_dyane Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Lovely car and a very fair price! Someone needs to take some brave pills and get this bought because very shortly good cheap XMs are going to be extinct as good cheap CXs are now. I used to think XM's were complex but compared to *any* executive modern car they are relatively simple and easy to fix. GLWS.
Lankytim Posted March 21, 2016 Author Posted March 21, 2016 To be fair, it's much easier to work on and far more reliable than I ever expected. It's quite a fun car and is a great daily, I just have shite I need to focus on.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I've been in this, the ride quality at motorway speeds is by far the best I've ever experienced.
kee616 Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 id be up for a few tickets if there was a roffle shame i just brought a new car id be buying this!

chaseracer Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 ...which I need to get rid of, as they're in mother-in-law's garage...
Lankytim Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 This is still available everyone! Would there be much interest in a raffle?
Lankytim Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 I've never paid much attention to raffles tbh.. Do I sell them at £15 each and do the draw when they've all sold?
dollywobbler Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 That's pretty much the drill, though £15 is quite pricey for a ticket. This is where high-value ROFFLES often fall down. Lankytim 1
kee616 Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 thats pretty much how it works it seems, once all the tickets have sold and you've got the money the next lottery draw the winner gets the car ;Did be up for a raffle
lesapandre Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 I have a Honda Legend if you fancy a PX. Not a lot wrong with it - just not my type of car....sigh
Lankytim Posted April 1, 2016 Author Posted April 1, 2016 Not really up for swaps... Although I am a bit intrigued. any details?
chrisjvm Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Not really up for swaps... Although I am a bit intrigued. any details?http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131767792728
Lankytim Posted April 2, 2016 Author Posted April 2, 2016 Looks nice, but I'd better not. Thanks all the same
lesapandre Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Sorry missed your post. Its very nice but the Legend was answering a question no one asked...in its day it was overshadowed by Merc/BMW and the same applies today ...mega torque steer of course. I am tempted by the XM but have too many cars already...sigh
robinmasters Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 I've never paid much attention to raffles tbh.. Do I sell them at £15 each and do the draw when they've all sold? £15 is pricey for a roffle, but this would be a Citroen XM roffle. If it hasn't sold, ROFFLE. I personally guarantee* all the tickets will sell within a day. EDIT: As I'm going out for the rest of the day, and won't be back before all that's available are tickets from touts, at 10* their original price, I'll have two lucky dips please.
Lankytim Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 Looks like I'm keeping this, for the time being atleast. The radiator has started weeping, the hydraulic regulator is dripping and the rad fans have packed up. Nothing serious but stuff that needs sorting. Does anybody want a nice Almera? Lacquer Peel 1
