Modern Italians 2: Alfa-Romeo Guilia

It's 2027, the Mrs has had enough and is calling 'cartakeback' whilst you sleep off the night shift/hangover/modern life.

However back in 2016 just before the world imploded Alfa had just launched the Guilia (but without 147,000 miles, knackered suspension bushes and mystery smell the one on your drive has in 2027). Back then the new Guilia was a pleasantly styled saloon with actual rear legroom and an awfull Audi 80 style postbox opening boot. It looked lovely inside and the driving postion actually suited humans. Some bits (the clunky piano black B pillars) didn't work, but if you had picked a shit hot colour and not a grandad shade it looked GR9. Take a look:

I'd be crying if I was trying to sell Jagwahr XE's on monthly PCP to whatever photocopier salesmen sell these days.

I loved that.  RWD for the win we said.  And it was this very car that sent BMW fortunes plummeting.  How we laughed at the time.

It's Giulia as in the ladies name. Not Guilia

In the 1960s, BMW went to great lengths to make their sedans look Italian. Fifty years later...

O tempora ! O mores !

Isn't that just a re-badged Vectra? Why are the back wheels smaller than the fronts?

In the second pic, without being able to see the grille, I thought it was the current 3 series

GM stopped making Vectras 6 years ago.  If you meant Insignia, then no relation.

No GM in these.  Fiat Chrysler product.  Fiat ditched GM a while back and bought Chrysler instead.

It's RWD.  All new platform named Giorgio.  It was intended to be on the Maserati Ghibli platform, but they went all-new with the project led by seconded Ferrari men

They're not, they're just further away.

Hmm. Nice interior but gopping front. The shite reputation of the dealers will keep most 'premium' buyers away.

Look, THIS is a Giulia (<- note nonebaylike spelling):

This, in contrast, is newfangled tosh:

I'd rather buy a Dyson.

But by 2027 your Dyson would have packed in from your sitting on it and you'd rather take a spin in an Alfa than do the stairs with a dustpan and brush, shirley?

I'm so looking forward to mahoosive depreciation due to buyer apathy (BMW-blindedness) so that I can buy Andrew E's cartakeback example for half of my months wages.  I mean, who'd pass-up the chance for this lovely Asda Smart Price Quattroporte?  Not me.

Ooh. I like that. Yes, there are tones of 3 series, but let's be honest, Alfa need to sell cars, and that sort of thing sells.

I'd definitely smoke one of these. Roll on 2027.

I think Fiat should sell their other rwd Executive car with the full power engine other versions are available with in the U.S.

A 707 BHP Thema would be faster than anything else Europe can offer. They could even call it the 8.62.

By 2027 my Dyson will be well capable of hoovering up what's left of a 2016 Alfa, alright.

As soon as they have plummeted with depreciation like any other Alfa saloon, I'm gonna swoop in and grab a QV. WCPGW?

Sure the 159 was developed under the GM partnership, the 2.2 4 cyl using a GM Vestra engine block, but from there up all Alfa producing a high revving motor that's particular responsive mated to the six speed Selespeed. Yes the car might be somewhat on the heavy side but with an excellent safety rating. The Giugiaro styled body is another great feature. The new Giulia sure has great looks though maybe no more so than the 159.

I like it. Ok, the front doesn't look good on the pics above but it'll hopefully look better on the road.

RWD is enough to get me interested. I'd love a Jaaaaag XE but if the Alfa is gonna be cheaper...

That would be my shite photos SKILLZ Pete, it looks very well in the flesh.
