Renner Espace for sale!

This will fit perfectly into the skizzer collection's trend setting French dept. Continuing the matra lineage of the espace and the euro-chic/ trend setting theme I recon a Matra Rancho would fit ( space permitting) into it perfectly too, just to top things off. Very jealous skizzer!!!

That is lovely! I'd love one of these at some point, looks fairly tidy. Were these built by matra?

Not just built by Matra, the Espace was a Matra !

Originally intended as a replacement for the Rancho, I think ,and designed by Simca/Talbot.

The Mk1, 1.5 ( which this is) 2 and 3 were all built by Matra, as was the Avantime. Unfortunately Renault pulled the plug in 2003, maybe as punishment for the financial disaster the Avantime was.

The Mk4 was completely designed and built by Renault.

Probably* a coincidence that it was by far the worse of the 5 Espaces/ Grand Espaces I owned.

Were the Mk 1, 2 and 3 all plastic body on a galv chassis?

I know the earlier ones were...

Um, er, bugger.

Mrs Skizzer is deeply, deeply disappointed in me for contemplating swapping her beloved Discovery for an Espace.  This is infinitely worse than being angry.

I think I'm going to have to bail on this one.  Sorry.  I am a messer, a loser, a tyre-kicker, under the thumb and beyond the pale.

Also, realistically there's no way I'm going to get the Disco MOTd this side of Easter and probably not for some weeks after as I'm away from home 5 days a week plus some weekends and it needs various things like tyres sorting before the test.

Sorry.

Grovel.

Did I say sorry?

Sorry.

Its a feeling all shiters (who have ever managed to get themselves into a relationship) know well.

Shit one! Mrs Foad was looking forward to driving a Land Rover, I can see why Mrs Skizzer would be disappointed with the swap, who wouldn't want a Disco over an Espace?

I had another go in the Espace tonight and I can't drive it, it's too awkward and the pedals are in the wrong position, I'd have to cut the accelerator off and weld it on over to the right a bit if I wanted to use it for longer than 5 minutes.

I doubt anyone will buy this so there's a good chance it'll still be here by the time the mot on the disco is done...

I'll swap you that for a very nice MGF VVC? ☺

And who knows, I may even have grown a pair by then.

Tentative suggestion, I liked my Mk1 Espace and currently lack an estate car, unfortunately I also lack anywhere to park one at the moment (no idea what I am going to do for parking when the Smart comes back either).

Skizzer would like the Espace and presumably has somewhere to park it (and is not too far from me). I would be happy to stump up for it if he was prepared to look after it for me, I don't need an estate too often anymore, so wouldn't need to use it much. I'm sure there something that could be sorted with insurance. I'll have to see if he's up for it though.

I love that very 80's stereo set up, it's also reminded how horrible they are to drive being all sat up high and upright with low pedals.

Amazing interior space! I can see the middle and back row of seats, then behind them, in the boot, there seems to be enough space for another Espace - on a pillar lift, no less!

I never found mine horrible to drive, (probably because I have driven much, much, worse things) I have fond memories of mine grinding to a halt on the motorway when the carburettor iced up, it made a great skip for tip visits when I was doing houses up and you could get quite big bits of furniture in it.

Despite being treated as a mobile skip I would drive it anywhere and only scrapped it when I didn't need it anymore, as I couldn't stand the thought of having to deal with anyone when trying to sell it. By then it did overheat a bit in traffic, as the radiator was on its way out, anyone not prepared to do the radiator (or drive with the heater on full, like I did) would have killed it quickly anyway.

I like the creative thinking!

Sadly though, it's space that I'm short of - Big Shed and driveway are both full :-(

I always wanted one of these, and it's in blue too!

Sadly the diabolical Avantime experience last year means no Renaults ever again.

Just had an enthusiastic text about the Espace after putting it on Gumtree, It was so enthusiastic that I'm starting to think it's probably someone I know on the wind up...

I've been trying to think of creative ways to get my hands on this but am not able to.

The Tipo is effectively spoken for and everything else is either a keeper or not in condition for me to drive anywhere for a deal ... Unless ... I don't suppose you fancy a slightly ropey Sera?

I would consider it if I could fit inside it but I think a sera is probably a bit too sporty for me to be honest.

This ropey Sera... tell me more. *ponders triple-nation chaos collection theory*

I was thinking the same mate, you're not the smallest chap.

However as usual with my threads the above is not quite up to date .... Since last update (and as seen at Chumley) it has had new front springs (still needs shocks) and a standard brown dash fitted. It's also on 15" Bini steels with snow tyres.

It's not really for sale, but shifting it is the only way I could justify adding the above Espace to the fleet at present.

Posted

You'd probably want more than I can afford to be fair. I love visibility though, and Seras deliver that by the bucket load.

Posted

Sera isn't really for sale, however if it somehow disappeared and a mk1 Espace appeared in it's place I'd be happy.

There must be a way for everyone to end up with the car they want.

Over enthusiastic Gumtree person came to look at the espace when I wasn't there then offered £300.
