The OMGa Thread

Car goes well, I was annoying a Fiat 500 Abarth (driven by 17-Coffees) on some twisties earlier. He may have been flattering me though.

Also, I got 17-Coffees to blip the throttle of the OMGa while I stood behind it. The exhaust is definitely more thorough than just the tips. It bloody pops and bangs on the over-run!

Was't giving it full as had no idea of the road layout, and the road surface was terrible. (Plus it being a new-new car and all that...)

It does sound very nice though, I'd dare say it's on par with rantingYoof's LS400!

Here's another picture of it, rather pointless but was funny the looks from people who saw us ogling the OMGa rather than the Vette...

She looks a beaut Snaut, well done! I've always fancied one but never found a good enough one to warrant my (admittedly paltry) budget.

More to the point, any news on the jacket?

I think it's gone. No sign of it at the lost and found desk, apparently.

It was a good jacket, and I only bought it in December.

Weird neoprene stuff, and I wore it to work every day. Need to get another one at some point.

I have now ordered the correct pollen filter for this car. It was misting up rather badly on the drive up. The pollen filter in it is recent, but is the wrong type. After some research I found out the pre-facelift models use a paper filter, while the facelift models use an activated carbon filter.

This car is a facelift, so needs the carbon one, it has a paper one in it right now. Derp.

I've also ordered a thermostat as it seems to be running at about 80 celsius, which is cool. The thermostats are listed as being set up for 92 celsius. Now to find out how much of a PITA (or not) it is to do on one of these...

I have also ended up volunteering myself to give a terminally ill old giffer one last run up the strip at Crail in it. Fitting, no? It'll be on the 20th of March, so I'd better get the thermostat in before then!

Sorry but when you say Vauxhall I'm assuming that's a typo and you mean Volvo?

Got the alignment done yesterday, it really needed it! The mechanic said one of the front wheels was so bad it didn't register properly on the alignment machine. No wonder it tramlined a bit...

Proper pollen filter and plain number plates should arrive tomorrow, but today I went up to Huntly.

On the way home I thought I had a flat tyre or something, but it's just that this is so quiet compared to previous cars that I can actually hear the rhythm of the road surface rather than just road noise. At one point I actually pulled into a layby and ran round it with the foot pump checking the tyre pressures, with the GF in the passenger seat looking at me like I was a fool. :D

Well bought, lovely motor that. I wouldn't mind one of them in estate flavour

I'd have kept the Opel grille to be honest. The Vauxhall job always looked a bit like they slapped it on at the last minute.

And that's a properly lovely car. And an oft-bewildering yet strangely satisfying thread.

I only spent 10 days coming home from work to see it on the driveway and I miss it terribly.

God knows what will happen if I win a roffle...my excuse to MrsYoof is "I can then sell it on, make a bit of a profit and put this in the House Improvement Fund", but I would end up falling for whatever it was and insisting it sits there as a drive ornament for ages taking up space.

That looks really nice - a really well proportioned car, and those wheels do suit it.

Another vote for preferring the Open grille, but it's all about personal preference innit?

Part of me is glad these are getting rare though, my buttocks would probably still squeak a bit if one appeared in my rear view mirror.

Deffo got a bit of a Road Wars vibe to it.

It's a good thing.

I like the Vauxhall grille. Makes it look more giffer-spec (or police spec).

I'm registered on some Omega forums though, if I find an Irmscher grille cheap (HAAAAA!) I might consider it. However, I only plan to drive this car for a while then flog it. I can't see myself keeping a barge of this size long-term. We'll see. I'm falling more and more in love with it though.

After researching the thermostat, it turns out it's an utter bastard of a job on the V6s, but I also found out I don't need to do it. This has a temp gauge that actually moves (between 80 and 90 celsius depending on driving) and that's normal behaviour for the V6 flavour of these, according to the Omega forums. Ah well. I'll leave it then.

I would prefer an estate too, but this one was just in too nice a condition (and price!) to pass up. The boot is still utterly colossal though, and the rear seats fold down!

Paper filter should be fine. Activated charcoals are to absorb smellyness

I liked this fred, enjoyed the early bits which were reminiscent of a toosavvy monologue in places, and a conceptual piece of drama about mans relationship with transport in others.

Yeah, I normally absolutely abhorr Vauxhalls.

Still do, if it's not an Omega.

To celebrate the sale of the snotmobile I went out for a pootle in the Omega.

Went to Asda to buy some envelopes so I could send the snotmobile's V5 away, and I also bought some super-awesome heavy duty carpet floor mats for the Omega. Full set for £6! Phwoooaaaar! I haven't fitted them as they're held together with BFO staples and I can't be arsed faffing with that right now.

Pleased to report that the correct pollen filter, fitted the correct way round, seems to do the job properly. I also think the temperatures on the climate controls are the temperature of the air coming out the vents instead of the temp it's aiming to make the inside of the car. Had to turn it up to 25 to get some heat out, but it goes well beyond that! Engine isn't running cold or anything, no nasty wet spots in the interior. Think it's just like that.

Posted

That's air con vs climate control.

Current daily has aircon marked with numbers which just sort of hint at what might happen. Turn it up and it gets hotter until your eyeballs dry out.

Climate control, like my Focus had, is where you set a temp usually on a digital control, and then the car heats up as needed until that temp is reached and then the heat drops off to maintain that. There'll be a little grille somewhere where it checks how how the car is using a temp sensor behind.

In most cases, if it's got a digital readout then it's Climate, if it's a twirly dial then it's Aircon.

Posted

It's definitely climate, dual-zone too! I think the temp sensor is just placed badly.

No. I hate you.

Putting a bloody 3.2 up for sale milliseconds after I'd resigned myself to a 2.6. Bastard.

No doubt sometime in the future, you'll have another punter asking for the services. I hear LS430's are alot cheaper in the midlands than up these parts.  ;-)

With regards to the grill, personally I keep telling him to badge it up as a Cadillac Catera...

If you make me put an LS430 on the drive it won't be leaving. I'll even build it its own machine-gun defended castle to stave off the northern invasion, I would.
