The gift of my local scrapyard keeps on giving…

L93 ONH - December 1993 1.8 TD LX. About 150k on the clock. Will investigate more at the weekend.

I wish I knew how to upload photos, I really do.

I spotted a mark 1 driving through Exmouth this morning. N316COH, a 1.8LX petrol hatch in very shonky Electric Current Red, with a ladder on the roof and giffer body repairs sprayed on top of previous giffer body repairs in a few places. It has the slimmer black door rubber mouldings, so definitely a mark 1 LX in its final development just before the mark 2 came out. Its MOT history is pretty decent as these things go, but it seems like its mileometer stopped working about 4 years ago, at 116000 miles.

Get the pic on your device, open a reply, tap "add files", find said pic, tap on it and the pic should appear as an uploaded image. Tap on the image, and it pops into your post. That's how I do it, anyway.

Right…

Been to see the scrapyard Mondeo. Someone liked their black paint but it is all there. Even the 1.8 TD unit is a good one.

Sorry, forgot to say thanks for the pics etc. Not sure I have any immediate needs that aren't fairly complicated etc (like the upper window frame on driver's side that I believe is a faff to remove and harder to post!). Thanks!

Just hoovering mine (MOT next week - mileage has been very very low again this year).  Bloke walks past and says 'nice original Mondeo' which is always nice.

It appears that Ford dealer closed around 20 years ago from what I can  find online

Can I used (red) Dexron 2 in my PAS system? Official Ford spec should be ESP-M2C 166-H

That's what I have in stock, but have no memory if that's what I used last time.

MOT passed, it should do, it's barely been anywhere this year!

The oil Comma recommends for use on this is also Dexron 2. So I will assume thats is fine.

I know the feeling well.

All the more reason for you and the Mondie to briefly leave Kent in September.

Excellent news. That's two K-reg Mondeos that have got fresh MoTs this month. Ours failed initially but only on a split in the exhaust that the guy welded up (and inoperative number plate lights but that appears to have been tester error putting the switch in the wrong position).

Ex wife and children have just bought a house using the equity I slaved to build up over the years.

Anyway! In the kitchen drawer, the previous owner left us a set of details from way back when.  I would estimate about 2002 judging by house prices and the amazing Mondeo on the drive!

I aim to recreate the image with a shitty Sierra in the future.

Fiesta on the left drive judging by that TRIMYO?

Love it, the Blairite dream in full swing (don't mention Iraq).

They were probably going to settle down that evening and watch Pop Idol.

Certainly looks like it.  New Labour heartland.

Is a six year old Mondeo in keeping with that type of address? I'd wager this is a 1998ish picture.

My guess was purely based on my memory of asking prices in the area at the time.

SO - let's have a look!

AND...

You are more correct than me!

I thought the asking of £96995 was a bit strong, but there we go.  Decent price achieved.

2002 would've put that Mk1 Mondeo into prime W.T.C taxi rental fleet territory and I can assure you that none of mine ever looked as tidy as that example!

Inside I’m picturing an oak veneer effect kitchen, a row of those kitchen devil knives everyone was after, a black ash living room shelving, a yucca plant and a big G plan draylon sofa. A matsui brand television and vhs combo as well.

Sadly no internal photos. Those of us of this certain age remember that colour details were rare at estate agents; they’d take a photo, stick it on the typed page and then photocopy it! How things have changed.

Ironically, it’s the nicest house I’ve bought. Funny how life works out (!)

Hopefully you will get yourself a suitably period house for the Sierra to sit outside of!

Or, as was the case with the agency people in the firm of chartered surveyors that I worked for in the late '80s, they'd send their films off to a specialist company who'd print off a load of the photos at a certain size ready to be stuck onto the typed and copied particulars. Maybe it would get stapled into a glossy card folder, for something a bit upmarket....

Somewhere I have a shot of mum and stepdad's Mk1 Mondeo outside the house we bought in '98. I think the sales particulars for it had the previous owner's Lada estate on the driveway! That house was ex-LA and £56k (important to get it under the stamp duty threshold!), so the price for 'your' one as a private estate house somewhere decent in East Anglia in '99 seems about right to me.

I remember lots of dark internal joinery and heavy, chintzy curtains back then. Interesting to remember what Mondeo man would have been living in back then, gives it a bit of context.

Posted

Well, I can tell you Mondeo man now lives in a 3 bed 30's semi in a slightly decaying seaside town with no off-street parking.... ;-)
