The Merc looks nice but my god, those V8 P6s of yours are so achingly cool, I can just imagine the noise even of the farty one. Even the view through the windscreen of the haunted one is fab!! Yes I do need to get out more.

It's OK, he's trying to take 1987 down from the inside.

Quick question. Is The Man O' Junk a Merkin?

Posted

Six cylinders - win

Steels and flat disc trims - win

CID Area Car blue - win

Headlamp wipers - win

Car launched before 1986 - win

I declare this FULL OF WIN.

Excellent. Phenomenal machines for covering long distance in a truly effortless manner.

And another WIN might be that compared to a german LHD-W124 in Youngtimer-Land Germany, this british RHD-W124 might have cost a fraction.

Well done, nice Benz!

Nice! Der Königsdiesel!  8) At least that´s what the german Youngtimer-magazines call it.

Well, the term 'brisk' is rather inappropriate in this context.

I just did the M60 Ring and was overtaken by a canal barge near Worsley.

I bet these aren't popular over at Pissonsheds.

However, it feels ideally suited for Transeuropean waftage.

They feel properly slow after anything French, even an Ami6. However, the accelerator cable is adjustable in as many ways as a Nun from Salzburg and those short-stroke diesels do come alive over 4076 rpm. I regularly used to plant the needle at 110mph in my 300D and it took a big hill to move it...

When the autoboxes become borked, they do sap lots of DIN kW. Put the old ATF in the fuel tank for xtra hp.

Thought you hated the 124s for all their terrible boring-dom, JunkM, let alone a smelly Rudolf Diesel? Boring-dom becomes ok after the first 399 miles, as any Ford driver knows... advance the fuel pump a little if the engine sounds dull, timing chains stretch and retard the timing.

I can't say that I'm madly in love with it, but as a transcontinental cruiser, it just had the most win attached to it out of all the offerings on my radar.

And despite I absolutely abhor DEIZLS, I have to think entrepreneurial and consider that this dreck only costs 3p a tonne once I roll off a ferry.

However, the first French Park Avenue seller who is mad about OMGRHD soot belching Boche chod might find himself in the middle of a haggle.

Until then, I just pretend it's 1988 (because I singlehandedly shot 1987 down from the inside) and this is a hire car.

There are only 138,000 miles on the ticker, so it should provide faithful service for another 861,999 miles, before it grenades.

Every stamp is stamped up to the 120,000 mile service, which thus may now be slightly overdue and commence asap.

I think that one includes a gearbox oil change anyway, so whether it runs fine on used recycled ATF will be tested in due course.

The gearbox as such is only 50k miles old for some reason. The way it shifts I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

It also has new discs and pads, so despite the last service wasn't stamped, it doesn't mean it was neglected.

ITZ BIN STUD for a year or so, which might account for some of the lethargicness.

We will see, whether we can achieve to outperform a Sentinel DG8, after we ran it for a while.

More later, when there is actual daylight. There will be some photographic updates as well, I IZ PROMIZ.

Sounds broken. I could never have described my 300E as slow. You did have to mash the throttle into the floor to access exciting acceleration though. They outright refuse to even use first gear unless you're brutal.

It's a D, not an E. Which makes every single difference known to mankind.

Well, compared with the '56 180D I had centuries ago, it actually feels like formula one, so all is relative.

Lovely car, if only it was SILVAR ?

You bought a DIESEL????

Ok, I modify my earlier declaration.  It's almost full of win.
