That sounds fun. For some bizarre reason running the van down the strip at Santa pod appeals too. 60bhp diesel with roof beacon flashing would make good times!

Count me in for the April 8th leg! It starts from almost on my doorstep, so no excuse really. Better get cracking with the suspension...

205 miles in one day in Wales will be a LONG day. You may not have time for much museum visiting. From where I am, Snowdon is about two hours north, and Cardigan is a good hour south.

Unfortunately, I'm heading down to Devon that day for my dad's birthday, but I reckon we might be able to divert to join you for the drive towards Cardigan and on towards Merthyr.

Car sharing is a great idea to reduce costs. I'm annoying I just won't be able to do more of it.

No need to rush matt until we ken its a goer!

It's a great idea. The 2nd best part of single marque car club membership is day out runs. The best part is the campfire shenanigans at the shows, in the evening after the punters have left. This could marry the two.

Plus, real ftp jeopardy. AND there's even the added frissance of spur of the moment chod spotting, purchasing and collection, all rolled into one!

Gentlemen, I must commend your capital plan!

As you were.

Angry Dicky might be worth a shout as he's been on two runs over this way. He'll know what's comfortable and maybe even where to stop. Though they did camping. Timing just isn't great for me.

I suppose it depends what kind of cars will be going along. 140odd miles a day in some ultra poverty spec is a pain at best, especially if it's as slow as, well, the sideboard. Okay if in a normal snotter (and a piece of piss in the CX!) but where's the fun in taking that?

Any excuse to visit the Museum of Internal Fire again. If this lands on one of my long weekends at work, I could manage the last 3 days. Time off is at a premium what with me not having full holiday entitlement this year, WEDDING_CMS and I think I've been booked to go see Dylan Moran live in March sometime.

If its any sort of distance ill take the van over anything else. I trust it anywhere for some reason. 1.8 na derv ain't no ball of fire and it don't like hills but it gets there

I've done a two-week rally that saw us clock up 200 miles a day around the UK. Actually, it was a bit longer than two weeks and we managed 3500 miles. We had barely any time for anything else as we very rarely went on motorways. In fact, we did a treasure hunt every day, which tended to take us well away from major routes. By the time you'd found eight clues and got to the overnight destination, the day was over. If a car played up, then even that was a struggle. There's no way you'd have time for exploring on that schedule really.

Just offering my thoughts, as I've been longing for such an event to occur (and longing to be able to afford it - I stand a fighting chance this year!). Your efforts so far are to be applauded.

I may just do that day, if only to race you in my Escort van. I can get very competitive I must warn you ☺

It's the eternal debate that's been going on between mr touring and myself - what people want to do. Do they want to drive in some wonderful scenery or do they want to do stuff? The best solution was to put up an itinerary and get some feedback! So here we are.

So what do you all fancy? One option is mainly driving. This would involve getting to stop too long at places and is more of just a tour. Benefits are that the tour can get closer to the more spread out shiters (inclusive see?)

Other option is to have a shorter drive to places of interest then spend, say, an afternoon there. Museums, things to see, you know, that kind of thing. More restful but coverage would be limited to a smaller area.

Third alternative (never say we don't give you choice) is a split with a couple of just driving days with the others visiting places of interest and less driving. Gives the chance of recovery for the broken and tired to catch up but at least you'll get to see some very nice driving roads.

Opinions please?

I would be up for something like this. Would prefer camping to hostels etc. though (even in April!), but happy enough to go with the flow for all that.

I like scenery, exploring places new and old haunts also so this itinerary sounds great. Driving, places to visit and good fun.

A mixture sounds good, so you're not just endlessly mile munching but get some days to kick back and relax a bit more. I wouldn't necessarily stress about route either - just destinations. How people get there is really up to them. Some might want to travel together, others might want to head off on their own and then all can discuss their various adventures of an evening. I'm in the latter camp myself. I get pissed off travelling at someone else's pace for too long.

And it shouldn't be too hard to find camp options near hotels. Ask Mat_the_cat who's an expert at wild camping in dodgy forests...

yep, totally agree- As FPB7 says, thr route above is a starter for 10 and hence why it has day prices so folks can opt in, turn up and tune out;)

oh ok, I'll slow down;)

I just asked Ms C if it would be ridiculous to drive up to Snowdonia after work on a Thusday,  then down to the Valleys on the Friday, then accross to the Pod and back home afterwards on the Saturday.

Her response was "You want to discuss what is or isn't ridiculous with a woman who is sat knitting a Jedi mouse".

So she didn't say no.

Put me down as a maybe.

I would fancy a trip like this, except...

(you knew there was going to be an "except" didn't you!)

I have no money

All my precious holiday time is already booked

The overnight stops would need to be in proper hotels, preferably with stars

And closer together (fewer road miles each day).

Eddie, fewer miles is an option. And location is not set in stone as yet, it's all fairly open at the moment but will be set sooner rather than later. I'd love you to be able to get at leat one day in, we're trying to put together a tour so people can pop in for one day if they so wish. It's only us massochists that think doing all of it seems a fun idea!

To pop in for a day might work.

If there's to be a day that I can get to, then I certainly would!  I'm just sad that I wouldn't be able to do the whole thing, because I would like to.
