anyone brave and into spitfires?

One of the fathers of my daughters friend has a mk3 spitfire he has owned since he was 17, it hasn't been on he road since the late 90s and would need a lot of work. There are a load of spares tl go with it as well. He is very keen to see it saved as it was his first car and this is more important to him than the amount of money he will get for it. If anyone is after a project and has a lot of space and time, let me know and I will pass on his contact details. I have had a good look over it and it's definately saveable but isnt going to be a quick fix to say the least.

At least he made sure the offer went to the right place, if there's anywhere it will find a home, among us is it.  The beauty of the Spit is it all unbolts (if not seized) and everything is available.  All you really need is space and time (and shares in WD40).

You shouldn't underrate their turning into money pit capabilities, though.

If anyone is interested I am sure Eddie the owner will get some pics. Think red mk3 with frilly arches, and a fair bit of rust elsewhere and you will the picture. I would imagine most if not all panels will need some work. Chassis looked sound in the main part from what I could see but I didn't get under it.

There is a pretty active face book group for "round tail" Spitfires.

 

I would offer to help but my garage is full of mk3 spitfire that a friend gave me cos he wanted to see it cared for after sitting for 10 years.

 

And I've not done much with that one!

Mrs Cyl had a MkII as her first car, which she still has but needs a full restoration and I have a MKIII that needs recommisioning.
