Visa on eBay - stop me.

So here I am at work, idly browsing eBay when I chance upon this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-Visa-17D-5-Door-1-7-Diesel-Classic-/181812438914?hash=item2a54dda782:g:YQIAAOSwu4BVuL0g

It’s 25 years since I had a Visa, long enough for the rose tinted glasses to be well and truly in place and for most of the grief to be forgotten, so I had a good shufi at it, long enough for bucolic memories of them to return...

Still, I thought, it’s probably miles away. Bugger, it’s 5 miles away.

I think the rule is that if the car is that close you have to buy it, no excuses :)

Failed test for corrosion two years running, untested since september...

Ad says "Body Work could do with some TLC"

I can hear it fizzing from here.

Worse news, my wife's response: "I quite like that!"

I loved my Visa, a C reg 10E Leader, but it was a pain in the arse at times and let me down big style on more than one occasion. That engine canted back in the engine bay caused me great pain, and it was built out of egg boxes.

And yet...

I like these, but I'm going to go against the AS flow here and say leave that alone.

Body Work could do with some TLC

is dealer speak for 'riddled with rot'. Check out the MOT history (serious welding) and the black tide mark round the bottom.

Not worth owt like £1300 IMO.

HOW MUCH???????

Too much. Which will be my excuse for not buying it. I keep telling myself now is not the right time to buy an older car, prices are just stupid. I've been going to Anglia Classic Car Auctions for nearly 5 years now and the sale prices are just getting stupid.

"Visa on eBay - stop me"

No, sorry.

Take a trusted mate with you who can reign you in and have a look, it might be a shed, it might not. If you really want it then offer what you think it's worth, the worst that can happen is they tell you to get bent.

If you're perverted enough to think buying a Visa is the answer to anything, perhaps you should speak to one of the other Visa lickers first- Sixcylinder would be a good start, I should imagine everybody in the country trying to rid themselves of this menace would try him first. He's bound to know of a better/ cheaper one than this.

Fark me. They are a bit optomistic aren't they.

Tell you what, you can have mine for £1,250.

As it is nearby, go and give it a try.

(Don't take any money with you in case the seller really knows how to sell).

If you still fancy a Visa after checking this one out, wait until a good one turns up.

VISA’s are the best car in the world and amongst the Visa’s the diesel is the best of all, well maybe a “Mille Pistes†4X4 Rally car!

Anyway in affordable terms, in my opinion the diesel is the one to have. Enough torque to pull up hills, cruise at 120 km/h, maybe a tad slow on acceleration to get up to motorway speeds, Great comfort and ride, always over 50 mpg, simple to maintain and rust about average for there era.

This particular Visa 17D was first on sale in July 2015 for £1995 and I noticed in October it was down to £1295. I have looked hard at the pictures and they seem to show the car needs a fair amount of TLC which would explain why it has not sold. It currently has no MOT and this would bring it down to project money in my opinion. As you are only 5 miles away please go and have a look at it they are great cars to own.

Every household needs a VISA !

The photos are my two Visa Diesels.

Thanks for the advice, I'll pop along to see it, but with a healthy dose of scepticism first. I must simply repeat: "I am not 19 any more."

HOW MUCH!!!!!!

soz but it needs saying at least twice

as others have said, pick a dirt cheap shitter preferably in another country/time zone for a couple of hundred nicker, then spend the grand change in glorious collection adventure to regale all your pals with, hopefully garnished with pics, video and witness statements and court dates 8)

Then you will be a Winner my Son :-D

The white one is in daydream territory.  Even without blowing up the pics I can see door bottoms I would run away from.  The grey one, OTOH, looks a much better bet, at half the price with 12 months MoT on it.  And the seller says himself that the doors are frilly, you can't buy honesty like that.

I still advocate for the hearing aid coloured one in .fr complete with collection thread and video footage of outrunning jihadist terrorists.

I had a 17RD (? - the four speed one anyway) and loved it;  I'd have another but the boss would insist on the M5 going, and the scream of the dohc six blasting away from a roundabout beats leaving a mimser in a cloud of XUD goodness.  Mine went when its ice skating skills weren't good enough one freezing night and was replaced with a BX19dtr, and I'm not allowed one of those either

If you fund it, I will make it so. ;-)

The twin pot is far less usable than a diesel in my opinion and this one is possible reduced from 652cc to 602cc if it really is a 2CV engine. There is also a far amount of body damage and checking the exchange rate this morning it was down to 1.3 Euros to the pound.

Saying all that who mentioned another Visa collection trip to France, I am fully experienced!

See, it's far more shite. Buy it.

£595, 12 months test and a towbar! The new ticket must be very new as it's not showing up on the DVLA site yet, but it hasn't failed any previous ones on rot.

I wouldn't stop you from buying this one :-D

It's crazy money but who says you can't make an offer? Have a look and as long as it's not completely kippered then offer what you think it's worth and leave your number, odds are 99% people won't even bother looking with that ticket price so could end up being a bargain.
