It's been a while . . . (Renault 18 content!)

Well, it's been far too long since I put anything here, so please find herewith my newest piece of Renaultshite.

 

It's a 1983, 18 TL estate, with the mighty 1397cc unit. It's covered 32,000 miles from new and it's certainly reflected in the condition. The journey back to Cheshire from St Neots was eventful, as I drove the last four miles in complete darkness and with no wipers. However it's all sorted now and the foglights are now no more. After a service and fitting a complete genuine exhaust, it really is pretty-well spot-on.

A coolant change was probably a good idea, as despite having all that history, it wasn't looking too good and neither were the hoses, so I've changed them as well.

My mate popped around in his GTS the other day, which currently makes it six Renault 18s in one village. However, the possibility of a Y-plate TS is also on the horizon, whilst the gold TL I went to view the other day will be donating parts when the weather picks up.

Welcome, love your 18. I recall my folks neighbours had a black and silver saloon special edition model A158RYS and an accounts manager at the haulage company I worked at back in the mid 1990s had a diesel model too. Nice Aberdeen reg mark too.

Lovely, really like Renault 18s.  The early ones all seemed to have front wings rotting away to nothing, and be in that weird metallic greeny-gold colour.

Wonder if those Lucas Suare 8's were fitted by the dealer,part of the £80 accessories maybe? Seems odd it hasn't got something from the Boutique range.

Bought new in Cambridge with a private plate, ended up in St Neots but has gained a Scottish reg!

I dont think I've seen an estate in the wild.  Looks remarkably tidy.

Wests Renault only moved out of their Newmarket Road site in the last 18 months having been taken over by local Honda dealer John banks.

They have been on that site at least 30 years to my knowledge,probably much much longer.

Lovely cars. I remember seeing a decent looking diesel estate for sale in the same colour in 1998 I really wish I'd bought...

i've not seen a renner 18 running wild and free since, well i dunno when.

 

but its been a lot of years since i last saw one!

 

they are a good looking machine though, Renault did make a stylish car when they tried, sadly i think their last attractive effort was the Vel Satis!

 

and what a success that was.....

now the jewish racin' beige estate is a thing of beauty.

 

i had a chemistry teacher who drove one of those, but it was a green coloured one.

Really like that. Back in the day my Ma had a 21 estate that just refused to die. Bought from my work at 4 years and did a further 10 without major faults beyond a new driveshaft I sourced and fitted easily and inexpensively. Happy days.

I reckon the 18 estate is a RIGHT LOOKER. I was seriously tempted by the silver one currently on eBay but it looks dog rough and is properly fuggin miles away. Would be up for one though if you hear of a cheap one knocking about.

Looking at the invoice that's a decent PX on the Tincorna  - although the N reg is a bit weird.

 

I love all this old paperwork stuff that comes with a really cherished car.
