If it were me I'd buy an Alfa GT or Mercedes clk, then people would think I'd spent more than three grand

£3k would go some way towards my £5k tax bill, £12k lease extension bill, and the costs of selling and buying a house. All due in Jan.

I suspect you have it, in a "side" account and will pay it on the last day.

Hire a beavertail and go to Portugal for this Ami6 1000 euros.

Sorry no pic. because iPad and cider. But it looks ok, lovely flat grey paint.

It is an estate so no "breeze away" rear window.

No good. Mrs DW will only entertain the idea of a saloon. She loves the styling as much as I do. Almost...

£29.99 on a ticket to Lisbon ,then the best Range Rover you can find . Be quick. Before either Spud or that fecker that converts them to RHD and paints them before selling them on ( on J reg personal* plates) for between £40 and £90,000 get them all.

Martin Lewis says that you can get 1.55% easy access or 2.55% fixed in a top Cash ISA.

or there's this, and enough change to buy some MIG wire:

My silver spirit was £2250 you can't go wrong really but if you want an everyday car a cheap Rolls probably isn't it

There's loads of Amis on LBC, and those 10k-upwards ones never sell, but you'd struggle to get a nice Berline for £3k. Convince your missus that a break is as much fun and things will be much easier. Or just fix the 2cv.

I looked yesterday and found only Breaks. These will not suffice. Practicality can do one. It's ridiculous rear window or nothing. For this reason, the Ami 8 is also out.

This thread is Xmas booze fueled folly

^ wot he says.....

which isn't wot Mr DW would like to hear, but it is the sensible solution,

a an alternative, if the money situation is unsettled then DW would do well to collect the surplus and put it under the bed, just in case.

and then spend it on returning the Dolly to the road.

You could most likely talk me into selling you a Renault 16 for that (although Mrs Skizzer would be upset).

+1 on the Rancho idea, then I'll buy it off you when you're bored of it :-).  My own attempts to buy Ranchos from francophone Abroadshire ended in failure, but I think you're probably both more charming and more persistent than me.

Get a Buick Park Avenue and waft around in it. Great fun and believe me: I know!

Actually, at the moment, I'm more tempted to invest in a boat. Or a one-way ticket to New Zealand. The weather here seems to be broken.

Calling first dibs on stowaway position.

You're forgetting the key rule of Autoshite, you can't buy a car with money that you actually have.

Do things properly, spend £3k repairing the Tin Snail and then spend an extra grand that you don't have on another car that you don't need and isn't very good anyway.

The answer is simple, blow the first 3k on anything, regret it at leisure then get a Kredit Kard at OMGAPR spend up to (coincidental 3k) limit on chod trying to make up for original fritterring.

Repeat ad infinitum.

Fix your 2CV. It means so much to you that it'll be a worthwhile investment.

I know this is the most dull suggestion so far.

£3k will get you a nice S Type diesel, which I find quite amazing.

This is true and quite interesting BUT if DW is spending his last groat on a car, the Dolly can be fixed with an adjustable and a stale baguette whereas a diesel X type could be a money pit of it goes wrong.

I am starting to think that an S type or even an XJD will be a possible replacement for the 607 in a few years time (for me not dw). They can't be far off being as cheap as they ever will be.

Still think I'd rather have the pez, even if it has terrible OMGMPG - I just can't see a modern derv being a sensible long term shitist option.
