Shite from the year you were born.

Having pushed my neglected spitfire out of the garage, and then back in again this weekend, it occurred to me that I really ought to get it back on the road before 2018 as that will be it's 50th birthday.

Talking later on to my missus about the idea she said it's a shame it's not from 1973 - the year I was born.

So I started idly looking at eBay for 1973 cars but was met with a disappointing list of massively overpriced Escorts and some e-types worth as much as my house and not much else.

I think my choice would be a sporty Imp or a R12 for nostalgic reasons.

What does it for you from your year?

Apologies for lack of pics. I blame the phone.

My Daimler was registered on the 9th of October and was delivered to it's first owner on the 10th October which is the wife's birthday.Mrs V8 was born 6 years later though.

A quick look around ebay for 1970 gives lots of morris minors,vw campers and mg's.

But for me these

I was born in 1981 and the Cherry is close being a model that was launched in 1982 though mine was built in 1986.  I've not owned a car that was current in 81 yet, never mind built then but I did have an 81 W reg Honda CX500 a few years back.

1961

Skoda Octavia @ £2000

VW Beetle @ £2750

and then it jumps to over £7,500 when did old cars get so expensive?????

Posted

83 so for me a W126 Merc or a Mini. Had a few Minis and hope to get the Merc next year.

Wikipedia gives me but two cars that were launched the year I was born. The Corolla E70:

And the Lancia Delta

1974 - it wasn't a great year for brand new models

Lamborghini countach - no thanks

mark 1 golf - had one and it was rotten, so, so rotten and got scraped, so never, ever again.

Volvo 200 series - ah now I'm interested, but not as interested as i would be in

maxresdefault.jpg

Jeep Cherokee SJ, i''ll never be able to afford one, but isn't it great, the older, and smaller version of the Wagoneer that came along a couple of years later, so, yes please, one of these fore me,

or one of these, which was already on sale-

austin-allegro-4-654.jpg

or one of these too

ebay886612.jpg

or one of these

1974_leyland_austin_mini_1100_r60000_792

or as an outsider, then i would like one of these, in this colour (and i don't mean the land rover, which is very nice too)

I second that 914, totally sexy! If a woman is a Porsche or a Porsche is a woman then it is the 914!

All born in 59....

My year too!

However, as a point of order, we can't claim the Caddy was born then. The 1959 model would have been a August/September 1958 introduction. You can have one if you were born before the 1960 model came out....

Released? This thing.

Built? My one and only.

1984 for me.

The year my Transit was nailed together a few miles up the road from where I live now.

Yeah, this came out the year I was born. God help us all!attachicon.gifimage.jpeg

Are you 15? If so I'm impressed with your interest in ancient chod. All the cars produced after your birth would be considered modern by the standards of Autoshite
