Some folks might say this isn't shite...... I disagree. I even chose a pic that shows how rough its looking at the moment

Theres some time and money going to be spent on it this summer, or I might keep making it quicker and just patch it up as and when

Some brilliant fleets there!

I'm sorry to say that out of the 2, this car is the closest things come to shite in Chez_L for now:

Posted Image

However, due to it being universally derided by Clarkson from launch and to the ludicrous expense of the inevetable replacement of the rear trailing arm bushes, I predict that these will be shite in about twenty years or so. Maybe.

Sorry, my other is very non-shite indeed:

One of my goals in life is to own a Mk1 Granada 3.0 Ghia S Manual, with aircon, in Roman Bronze.

Daily driver, owned this on and off now for 3 years (18 months and counting second time around), rolling towards 199k miles.

Posted Image

I alternate the saloon with this one on a weekly basis (although I don't drive it on business as I've managed to wangle limited-mileage classic insurance for it, as it's now 15 years old). Also damned useful for fetching and carrying. 185k on this one. Shame the a/c is beyond economic repair, otherwise it would be perfick.

My wife's car, a freebie from my dad. A few scuffs on the bodywork but nothing a £3 aerosol couldn't sort. Service history as thick as a phonebook - reliable but thirsty for a 1.8 (it is auto, though).

I really need to update my Ritmo & R14 pictures but they're both tucked up asleep at the moment so don't wish to disturb them...

The R9 pictured on a visit to Nigel's. Has done me ok touch wood since I picked it up in October, new waterpump for £132 & MOT booked for this coming Saturday will mean that February will have been the most expensive month for us collectively so far but it's all relative. If you buy a car for peanuts, whatever you're asked to spend on it is going to seem like a lot of money....

The Alfa 146 which was replaced as my daily by the R9 sits all forlorn down the side of the house, lingering as a sad reminder of the luxury & performance I once knew. It needs to find a new home & soon. Still MOT'd till June.

That BX with the LPG is just mucking fagic, actually the whole conversion thing was well impressive. If you ever come to sell it..... Wink

-cheers Marty, it's only a mono point system and the electronics are confined to the dash board switch - I also documented the CX LPG story too - think it's on CXClub forum somewhere.Unfortunately I can't sell it because the LPG system although DIY, still cost over £100 and ive spent too much on it already with new parts so I'd never get anyone to buy it for enough (the guys on BX Club are always slating BX16s coz they're not desirable since they're neither GTis or Diesels  - oddly, they're my preferred choice - but of course, I prefer shite  )Mr Ritmo - I LOVE the Ritmo/ Panda combo in your older pic! it's spine - tingling to see a Ritmo but one that looks that good! you must have photochopped it!! When was that photo - I spy some tell tale pish in the back ground such as an 'in use' P-100 and a Belmont Cabrio 'hairdresser's spesh' and possibly a Skoda Estelle ahead of it - guessing early 90s?BS6: love the Zodiac - for some reason I always picture them as being black! They always remind my of the Tango advert from the 80s.. looked like a music vid if anyone recalls..

Thanks for your comments, you make me want to retrieve it & let it see the light of day! It's been garaged since April 02. I only got the car in June 01 & those pictures were taken outside our old, old, old house which we left in Mar 02 so those pictures are probably from sometime in 2001. There was a lot of shite around as recently as that but the last few years appear to have culled the majority of it around town. When I moved here in 96 I have recollections of seeing such great things as Ital vans in British Telecom yellow, a Vauxhall Magnum, a scruffy Marina, a Mazda 929 estate, a white Citroen LNA, all in nearby streets. I was only 14 at the time but would have loved to travel off for the day along the South Coast, there was so much crap still on the road back then.... Our next door neighbour had a blue MkII Transit luton van which he used to take to a big car boot sale every Sunday & I'd go with him to earn a bit of pocket money. The guy with the P100 we used to call 'lawnmower' man, he started off with a white MkII Transit Dormobile type van which he would load the lawnmowers into for taking to jobs but he was always having trouble getting it started so then he chopped it in for the scruffy white P100 then at some point he also took on the much neater looking red P100 so had both of them on the road outside his house. That street was van central when we moved in! The white Astra MkII convertible belonged to a girl whose boyfriend owned a variety of Skodas (he's the one who must own that place on the A259 to Brighton at Shoreham with about 6 or 7 Estelles etc parked outside because examples of them would visit our road on a weekly basis, a couple of shiters have shown pictures of it before) sometimes he would turn up in a nice orange 110R coupe thing which I took pictures of at the time as it was the first time I'd seen one. The girl either started out with a 309 & upgraded to the Astra or it was the other way around. Think it must be the former thinking about it. The mum had a silver R11 which used to give her grief from memory. Lawnmower man had 2 daughters, one with a metallic blue early Clio & the other with a metallic blue F reg Nova. The house that backed onto ours had a 'project' Scimitar & when we moved in the couple had an E reg R21 Savanna which they eventually changed for a J reg BX which unfortunately caught fire down the supermarket one day I heard. We had one of the newest cars on the street back then, an N reg Hyundai Sonata! 8) The ponce across the street had a 'new' P reg MkII Mondeo but then in 97 we got an R reg Chrysler Voyager, followed in 2001 by a Y reg Kia Sedona....mmmm nice wheels! Around that time mum added to the shite in the street with a Y reg Cavalier MkII. Then I really lowered the tone in July 2000 with my rusty C reg Panda 45CL.

The Ritmo really was that good when I got it, I could have taken it to a show straight away in that condition & people would have thought it had been in our family since new etc. Unfortunately in Dec 01 it got hit (by some old woman with the sun in her eyes  ) whilst it was parked exactly where it was in those pictures, I was absolutely fuming but what can you do? It needs an offside rear light, the bumper's come away on that corner & it dented that corner of the body exposing bare metal & allowing rust to set in. It's only minor but it would need pulling out.

Would you believe I've never driven it?? When I got it, dad collected it with me June 01, then it got hit whilst it was outside our house in Dec 01, then when we moved the following March the new house didn't have a garage so I rented one & we pushed the Ritmo round a couple of streets away into the garage & that's where it's been hibernating ever since. I didn't get around to completing & passing a driving course until Dec 02, by which time I'd got myself an 'exciting' new daily in the form of the Fiesta 1.6 Si :D Now that I'm finally old enough in insurance terms my long term plan is to have both the Ritmo & the R14 up running & road worthy so that I can alternate using them to take to shows or potter around in á la Hirst! The 14 should be ok to go pending a fresh MOT, the Ritmo as I've said needs a bit of attention to the offside rear.

My humble additions to the rather splendid AS fleet:

The Bluebird. Bought unseen because it seemed awfully good for £295 with only 55k, two owners and lots of T&T. Good spec too, and it's turned out to be a lovely drive. At the time I still had the Camry that's now with Wuvvum, but the Bluebird proved itself to be so capable I was happy for it to take over daily duties. Shame not to have estate versatility, but the seats fold down so long stuff can go in, like the load of ex-Woolworths shelving it's carrying above (hence the stance).

House behind is the reason why I have very little car money!

This Laurel is my recently purchased 'proper' old car. 76k, one owner down in Kent until last year when it ended up with Datman via a dealer. Done 200 or so miles in it this week and a recent check showed it to be doing 26mpg, which is tolerable for an old straight-six. Amusingly cramped inside. It gives a great sense of occasion driving around in it, but I think using it as a daily would be hard work (in winter on country roads at least).

If nothing else it highlights the amazing progress there was in the useability of cars in the 1980s, the difference between the Laurel and Bluebird is amazing, the latter being quicker, roomier, less thirsty and generally more user-friendly. Don't think we've seen the same progress since.

Finally there's Mrs SL's Carina E 1.8CD, which I'll claim as I pay many of the bills on it and it serves as the famerlee car. Bought five-plus years ago for £3k, slightly expensive back then but it was one owner from new with only 21k! This is my favoured approach to buying cars and it's stood me well so far, paying a touch over the odds certainly paid dividends with this one. Massive inside, does nigh-on 40mpg, still tidy despite ferrying the children around and its use on rural lanes. Now showing just over 60k, should be with us for some time yet although I can see it ending up as my daily and we'll get some new family wheels one day when spending on the house eases off. Like the Bluebird, also useful for collecting shelving:

And that's it for now (apart from the Laurel carcass languishing outside). I have room for more, but trying to get the house done up is eating all our spare money right now. Still, good to see a few of my olduns in the posts above.

My fleet of shite is smeared all over the web already, current revival project is this Morris 1800 Landcrab which I thought needed some recomissioning after a long lay up, but which is turning out to be a lot rustier than I expected (where have I heard that before?)

This thread has finally inspired me to take a photo of a blue 1999 Ford Mondeo LX in all its glory. I'm sure you all can't wait  .SL, that looks like a great house you have there. Mr B, Congratulations for rescuing yet another car that others would have fragged long ago. My first recollections of a car were my dad's maroon Austin 1800 Mk11, and apparently my mum had a Wolsleley 18/85 as well, although I can't remember that one.Pog, what happened to the Super Minx, did you sell it?Other vehicles I would happily own out of the above are the red E30 323 (henna red I take it :)) , BS6's Zodiac and Shitemeister's M3 and 190 2.6.

here are some of my previous shite projects from the last 2 years, all are documented on R-R.

one-owner Alfa 75 TS, bought this off eBay for £100 and spent yonks doing it up... welding, clutch, lord knows what else. Looked pretty smart by the end but it was not really a good example that you would wanna spend ages preserving. The seller broke the exhaust manifold when moving it around. I bought and fitted another one, which the MOT tester broke on his ramp, I was savage. Sold for £450, must have made a profit of at least £50  Currently SORNED so its still alive, result!

Posted Image

Alfa 33, again off eBay for £150, needed a bit of welding and general titvation, nowt really major. Again one-owner and 49k, a real honey. I drove this all summer and loved it, only sold to pay for a paint job on my Subaru! DVLA says still on the road, RESULT

Posted Image

Poo brown allegro, bought off Dollywobblaaah for a oner, I MOT'd this and sorted it out, stuck it on eBay, it went for about £350 I think. Next guy stuck it on 2 months later where it made £575 much to my great annoyance. I did get messed around by some daft old git so left some abuse for him on my eBay ad, that could have been a factor I suppose as I probably looked like a twat. He obv saw it though as he complained to eBay. DVLA says: Still on the road!

Posted Image

Bought this integra EX-16 outside of eBay for £75. Spent ages welding the sills and rear arches, did a cambelt, waterpump, tyres and other bits and bobs. a great car, it lokoed pretty smart when it was all done. Cant seem to find any pics of the finished article. Bought by japanese car lover, he drove it for a year till the test ran out then stuck it back up for sale for scrap money sadly, dont know what happened after that. DVLA says Sorned so its probably still out there.

Posted Image

This Prisma was a cracker, 63k miles and unwelded (till I got it). £75 off the bay. did a couple of little bits of welding, fixed the injection and gave it a machine polish, looked the business. Totally original and unmessed with. Sold it to some geezer on R-R who had grand plans, he bought another for spares even though this one didnt need anything. Unfortunately he sold em after a few months and I lost track of it though I saw it again on eBay a while later. DVLA says: STILL ON THE ROAD, woo-hoo!

Posted Image

This Subaru was bought off the bay for £46! it needed mega welding on the rear inner and outer arches. Lobbed new wings on and some other beautifications, then got it resprayed by a pro (I did all the prep tho). had the engine out and fitted a clutch, cambelts and other odds and sods. By the time I had finished i'd spent far more than it was worth so i A-framed it to France and stored it away to be rediscovered in a few years. SORNED

Posted Image

This Rover was the last one in the garage, bought off eBay for £65 with a broken cambelt. I repaired the engine and de-snagged the car and gave it a good clean up. Its an absolute cracker, totally unmessed with, 80k and one owner till 2007, full history etc. So I gave it to my dad who uses it daily and loves it.

This Volvo is my daily chugga and A-frame dragga, drive it 350 miles every week... its the dogs man. 208k and just passed the MOT this week, needed a couple of tyres. LOVELY
