My 2010 Nissan X-Trail we have owned for 4 years it is a 2.0 ltr 173 bhp diesel.

I'm reeling at this amount from a 2.0 diesel. An AEC 11.6 litre engined bus I had in the 1980's managed 150 bhp.

This has been my daily for most of the last year, but a couple of weeks ago I resurrected the Maestro and relegated the Somerset to the garage due to some fairly catastrophic water leaks causing the carpets to get damp, and also I've decided that due to a few ropey areas of metalwork it would be unfair to make it battle through the snow and salt this winter. It will be coming out in a few days time though, and driven up to Birmingham where it will be displayed on the Young Guns Classics stand at the NEC Classic Car Show.

The 2.0d engine fitted to Rover 75s from 1999 on is capable of 160hp - mind that was right at the time when I think a LOT of research and investment was going into diesel lumps!

Some nice dailies here, I do like those 00s Saabs.

My daily has been in the family since 2010 and mine since 2012 after the passing of my Vectra.

Only 973cc and 3 cyl with minimal silencing so it wakes up most of the street and then gets nicely in their way on the road to work each morning.

Battling rust is a yearly onslaught, so much so that I entrust the job to my local garage on an annual basis. Currently just about winning.

Touching wood, since Its been in the family its been almost completely reliable, apart from a few sensors. And the rust!

Was driving the Camry Estate as my daily until late 2013, then it got replaced by this which is about the closest I can get to it with a modern thing suitable for work visits etc. Just a shame it has an electronic handbrake and only one rear wiper.

If it wasn't for work I'd put the effort into getting the Camry fixed and use that again. Or use the Lexus and go bankrupt.

For added excitement in our household, Mrs SL has a 10-reg Auris in just the same shade of silver.

After I showed you the MR2, here's the Blob...

This is the most "modern" I have, but I can't call it a daily as it only does that job on a fill-in basis.  I keep it for MrsR to use, and for the long-distance work.

There is now also this, which is supposed to be a daily but already needs work...

You can go for weeks and weeks without seeing another, then somebody will park one next to you!  (Like today....)

This is mine... leaks fluids and waste gasses where it shouldn't. Lets fluids in where it shouldn't. But it goes like a stabbed rat and seems utterly reliable.

It also eats miles in a way very few other cars do all while attracting absolutely no attention at all in complete comfort and at above 35mpg. *Apparently the 150bhp these LPT turbots have can be upped to 225 with no more than a chip. I wouldn't know about that though...

If I had even half a brain I would sort the issues and have just one lovely car, but where is the fun in that...

1964 Regent, ex Southend. My most modern diesel is a 2.8 Iveco, last of the mechanical injection types and over 50 bhp down on that Nissan. At least you'll know not to get stuck behind me.

I can get a plug in and play chip for the X-trail to take it to around 210bhp. :-D

This is for me, the Memsahib, the g/children, other children and The Pooch in a 2-3-1 line-up.

It also serves to take stuff to the tip without spoiling my other daily driver.  Altogether a very versatile vee-hickle.

Oh, here's the other daily:

I was running a 2001 LDV Convoy Hi-Cube as a daily for the past 6 months until it got written off in an accident last month. I then had a dreadful brand new Vauxhall Mokka 1.6 petrol hire car for 3 weeks until I received my settlement, and then I went out and bought this

A 1994 Skoda Favorit Foreman II Pick Up that I spotted for sale on Ebay. It was an absolute bargain, came with FSH and has only covered 7k in the past 11 years.

My personal Irish commercial favourite is the Xsara coupe with panelled rear side windows.

A BX is my pf:

I've only ever seen 2. One in Westport and the other was somewhere in Dublin I think (Ballyfermot, can't remember for sure)

Anyway, back to the topic in hand, my daily is this rough and ready (the picture flatters it) Badermatic with bad reverse ratio slip.

The oft-mentioned Rover 220SLi and my scruffy, slightly damp but endlessly useful Volvo 940 share 'daily' duties.

(They're not broken, just a mutual screenwash and oil topup if memory serves)

In actual fact though, the vast majority of my commuting is on this, which is considerably older and more economical than either of the cars, even if it has cost a bit to keep it working lately.  Owes me about £250 in all over 18 months of constant, hard use in all weathers though so I'm not complaining.

This 1988 950 for the last four years or so replacing the mk1 fiesta with suspected HGF and the XR2 with shit suspension and by now tons of rust

As I've got a new job it's been a bit of a git driving it on the motorway everyday with only 4 gears so might have to out it away for a bit/winter

And this 21 year old 2.4. Drives like a big wobbly Japanese car that uses tons of petrol

There was some knobber in one of these right up my arse yesterday.  Took me half of Derbyshire to shake him off.

1.5 dci Juke. I got it through a special deal with my work. I didn't even test drive one but it's turned out to be much better than I thought although I still thinking the styling is a bit wiffy.

The styling might be questionable but you've got to give Nissan some props for coming up with something bold and actually building them.
