Seals collection of Chod

So the day has finally dawned when I undertake a collection thread of winnahs.

I am setting off from Shetland this evening on an overnight ferry to Aberdeen followed by 12.5hrs on a coach and a 30 minute train journey:

All being well with my shonky phone I will endeavour to keep the thread updated during my travels, I should collect my noble steed sometime just after 11:30pm on Tuesday and then point northwards back to the land of haggis, correctly-shaped sausage and men with dresses who throw sticks for a piffling 550 mile trip back to the ferry terminal. I am aiming to get back for the Wednesday night ferry back to Shetland - we shall see if I make it under my own steam or on the back of a recovery truck.

Being resident in Scotland, I have done it on the cheap

Ferry ticket - £19

Coach ticket - £10

Train ticket - £5.50

Stupid grin on my face when I finally get hold of the keys - £priceless

I have packed a sleeping bag, change of clothes, various bank cards, RAC card, twat nav and in car-chargers for said twat and phone.

Wish me luck and WCPGW??

Not quite on a par with Dave and his collection of the 405 of desire from Ben all the way from the land of the garlic-munching surrender monkeys but close.

Brilliant!

We must be fairly equal for overall distance?

I am leaving tomorrow AM, so we are likely to cross paths twice....I will be flying north as you coach south and then we will pass again as I head south and you go north.

I dont envy you that ferry crossing though, the Channel is bad enough. I used to live in the Outer Hebrides and the ferry was always a puke-fest.

In fact, I get seasick if i splash around too much in the bath.

If we'd thought this through we could have collected each others cars and met somewhere on the M1 for a change-over a la Le-Mans driver change.

I'll probably head up the M1 so will keep a look out for prime chod travelling in the other direction

Wow, that's a heroic effort. That £10 coach is a bit of a barg. I still wouldn't though.

I'm not far from Rob, need any more tapes while you're down, for the journey home?

I've packed all the ones you've already sent me minus The Police and the tape deck in the sodding post van stretched it :-(

Boarding the boat, due to be a mild crossing but got the 'chunder pockets' on standby just in case.

My bed for the night - well, what do I want for £18!!! This isn't the sodding Orient Express you know. Would have to have paid another £21 for a proper bed but that means sharing with strangers who may smell or have unsavoury personal habits.

Home by Wednesday? takes me that long to get out of bed. Hope its a smooth crossing, yep just checked and it 15 knots of wind on the nose, almost a mill pond.

Mind you, that carpet is enough to make anyone feel dizzy.

Home by Thursday morning all being well. Considering the time of year, I've hit the jackpot with the crossing.

Yes the seats are pretend cow. I was hoping the wood capping would be to BL standards and be unvarnished floorboards but alas not.

The boat is quicker really, you get on at Lerwick, take two Stugeron and wake up in Aberdeen. Flying is a massive pain in the arse.

I must be more Scottish because the extravagance of that dinner horrifies me. When I go on the Shetland ferry my dinner is two Stugeron and a tin of 18p Tesco rice pudding. Can't argue with the fare though. Surely you aren't getting the car on the boat for that price.

why no fly son?

He's Scottish.  Keep up, man.

Hat severely doffed.  And I've chickened out of a collection from measly Zummerzet?  Bloody amateurs, this place, etc...

It's 70 miles to the airport from my house, the service is shite and way too expensive. No the cars costing me £76 on the return leg. And yes I did spend extravagantly on my food so lose several Scottish points.

That's a long way!

The car will be worth it though, and will be a nice way to drive back home too. Good luck!

Hope you have a good trip, perfect old cruiser to do it in too! I found it decent on fuel " on a run" and that is one hell of a run!

^^ Too right! It's done Essex to Shitefest then to yours in Devon, then Devon to London with me. But this will be something else...Just going out to load it with pez and do some pre-roadtrip checks for Wayne. I'll load him up with water and antifreeze as the rad is weeping a bit.
