What is the Weakest Excuse you have used for buying a car?

Because the (now ex) wife said I couldn't buy anymore cars.

"It was local and so cheap I had too"

"It's really shiny"

"I've never had a **** before"

I've stopped offering excuses to swmbo anymore, she just accepts that changing cars all the time keeps me entertained.

"I made a pact when I was 18 that I would own a V8 before I was 30 years old."

I'm 28 now, so really, I was contractually obliged to buy it and you wouldn't want me breaking a contract, right?

You know that forum I'm on? You know, the 1 that's about the really unloved and oddball cars?

I also genuinely try and buy something even more horrible than my previous worst effort.

"It's cheaper than hiring a skip"

This reminds me of why I bought Wuvvum's old Rover 75:  I needed to tow something and it was cheaper than fitting a towbar to the only other roadworthy car I owned.

This thread has made me realise that every reason I have ever had for buying any car is a hopelessly lame excuse.  Thanks for that.

Because your pregnant and I need a bigger car...

Anyone want to swap a zx 1.9td for a mondeo or cavalier?

You called your daughter Hillman Estate Car?

Worse. His daughter is called Herald

My piss-poor excuse was that there wasn't one in the country. Which is borderline fibs but it worked, so who cares

I bought it for your birthday, I knew you'd always wanted one... What? Oh , must be me then!

"I know people who have 7+ cars, 3 is perfectly normal for a single person."

Because buying a manky 70s Russian 2-stroke bike saved me £38/year on road tax innit.

Because all the others are broken.

Somehow I've just got permission to buy a pickup truck but the 1100 will need to go.

'I won it in a raffle'

*cringes*

I still don't know how my testicles are still attached.

So far I've "just turned up with" a 740, a 760, am 850 and a Kia Pride since I've been going with SWMBO. Dread to think how many cars have come north from this forum.

I deserve it.

I wanted it and it was cheap.

I'll be a long time dead. To which her response was ' if you pull another stunt like that you'll be dead sooner rather than later'

It was cheap

It was nearby

It's the same colour as my old one so the wings will fit it

My current one needs new tyres ( only works when the car is very cheap )

I used to own it

I've always wanted one

It smokes less than my old one

Basically all my reasons are always weak, like my willpower.

I wasn't sure about buying the Montego at first, that was until someone commented on the facebook post with the words "Rust to Rome" it was at that point I knew I had to buy her. Glad I done it though.

I bought the Ledbury Maestro because "Its only £200, what can go wrong?" So far nothing to major, just a head gasket and needing new discs and pads.

I bought the Maestro Van unseen, again this was another "Fuck it, What can go wrong its Mot'd and only £400". The best vehicle I have ever owned, I love it.
