Here's one for all you not on Faceache. Just a little documentary of the ongoing restoration of the SVM Mobile Command Centre.

Today's tasks:

Remove the destination glass over-panel - Done

Install destination equipment - Mostly done. Controller installed and wiring completed. Screen sitting on wood blocks. Needs proper brackets made. Materials on order.

Clean up and wash - Done

Mr cms206 was in attendance to assist with the various tasks. The cleanup of the exterior alone took about an hour.

You should bring that to the next shitefest/cholmondeley (and bring it into the judging arena).

We did consider bringing it via Chumly on it's way up the road from Essex a couple of weeks ago but the entry forms specifically said cars only. Then the commentator complained only 2 motors went in to the concourse paddock for the commercial section.

I have a Concessionary Pass. Can I get on before 0900 in England?

No! It's Scottish again. It'll run a Scottish ticket machine so yer Engerland pass won't be accepted at all! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Would my Young Scot be valid for a concession ticket aboard this conveyance?

I'd be unable to resist hitting the streets with profanities emblazoned across the front display. Could you also use it for selling ice cream? You could be selective with display messages: "Ice creams for sale. But not to you, fattie."

Interesting project so far...

Posted

What are you planning to use that for?

The worlds tallest camper van?

Posted

I can confirm that this has very much lots of win!

needs moar boost though!

Posted

Sod the boost, needs more working cylinders!

how about cylinders+moar booost?

'You wouldn't like me when I'm angry'

For the ignorant amongst us, is this a Volvo chassis, and who built the yellow bits?

It's an ex-Hong Kong Leyland Olympian ON3R with an Alexander RH body.

Apparently.

Great work so far, when are you swapping the engine out for an XUD?

Why would I want to put an XUD in it? If anything, all XUDs should be replaced by L10s!

Posted

Could you imagine how many XUDs would be required to replace an L10? The phasing gear would be incredible...

Replacing the XUD in a 205 would be more along the lines of a L10 with an 205 rather than a 205 with an L10

I would have to drive it from a trailer.

Looking great... The bus that is!!

Not really any refurb going on here but the autoshite.com Mobile Command and Recruitment Centre made an appearance at the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust's open weekend event this week. Due to very few people knowing about it's entrance in to preservation, it drew a lot of attention, stole the show quite a bit and I ended up talking to a lot of people I had never met before. I'll post pics from other folk as they appear on Flickr or Facebook...

I'm guessing the Cummins will have been made in Darlington or Daventry :)

Would this have been one of the Irvine made Olympians? or where were the Leyland ones made?

Posted

This should be a Workington made one. Irvine only built the Volvo branded Olympian.
