One last gasp - engine donation

Recommended Posts

A fellow 'shiter and I went to remove the engines from the rotten carcasses of an Allegro and a MiniMetro. These cars were corroded beyond belief, and apart from the engines there was precious little else to be had. The 1100 turns and the engine bay was caked in service stickers, so it is hoped to be a good 'un. I know you all like pictures, so I took plenty.

Blaaady 'ell! Some proper rotters there. What's the story behind them? And what's the plans fae engines?

That is the SD1 I was told about a few weeks back.

Much too far gone.

Brilliant pictures Josh! What a fantastic place, I bet there are shiters who would love to know where to go for some spares. Do you reckon there's an HT lead for Chris's Sera in that rancid Traveler? :D

Is than old DAF2800 unit in the background?

LIKE UR FOTOSKILLZZ ---- very powerful images.  I feel a little bit sad now, though.

My first thought on seeing the Princess was GET THE DISPLACERS!

Is that the Traveller from Heartbeat? Looks very similar.

And that, gents, is how you turn hundreds of pounds in just pounds.

Although I would very much like an Alegro square steering wheel, if that's doable? Genuine enquiry, cash waiting

It said Leyland on it, I don't know any more than that. I think it was the yard 'shunter'.

The vinyl roofed Allegro is noteworthy in several respects. It is a rare early (M reg) 1750 SS, not only the first 1750 but the very first Allegro in St. Helens. It has a genuine 5,000 miles from new. The elderly gentleman disposing of these cars owned a garage, but what with the steady flow of customers' cars needing attention, the Allegro - which had knackered thrust washers after 5,000 miles - was never repaired. Believe me, there is precious little of any value on these skeletons. They are much too far gone. I bought the 1100 as a replacement for my own engine whilst I repair the original.

The 1800 Princess had a serious engine fault after a not excessive mileage, and it was not a car which had been driven hard or abused (doctor owner).

FTFY  Let's not discriminate now!

Somebody less lazy thane should post pics of these things before they got dragged out of the yard, I reckon most people will suddenly recognise them if seen in their natural habitat.

Quartic wheel and instrument binnacle definitely worth saving from the S1 if you go back that way...

I hope the Metro engine is instated in another engineless Metro bought cheap on the 'Bay to save it from an untimely end.

Any good allegro front indicator units? I'm desperate for a good pair!

Posted

Ace stuff. Where abouts in St. Helens are they?? Sorry I just presumed St. Helens.

Check out the stance y0 on that allegro!

Just add pineapples for the win....

What the fuck does it rain round there, hydrochloric acid?

Don't know about saving displacers, even the plastic parts look rusty. An incredibly sad sight, but I reckon a team including Richard Branson, Bill Gates and a team of professional lottery winners would find restoration attempts a financial burden.

To the bridge! In a dustpan!

Get those displacers!!! It will save Vulg from having to turn his princess into a wonky Scimitar.

These corrode in an odd way, I know. And all the used units I've seen have had the same crumbling rot here and there.

You can buy them brand new from the allegro club....

Little bit gutted actually! Read the thread title and expected to see that you had boshed a temp petrol supply onto one along with a fresh battery etc for one "last gasp" but no :(.

Still decent pics though.

It is a shame ze  ss cannot be saved but would need a complete car ,engine and seats ,, there are 3 known , That metro is giving a engine to a metro so all is good ,,, Very sad that the cars were not stored indoors as the story would be very different ,, wish we would hav known about these 15 years ago but say la ve,, Great photos from The Squire
