Tat collection thread - Ronin edition

My first proper tat collection thread!

I have no idea why I bought this. I do not need it. I do not have a use for it. But when I saw an advert for it online I decided immediately what I should do was buy it. Because it was cool and I tend to buy cars simply because I’m bored. I emailed the seller when I was five sheets to the wind on Friday night and asked to view the car on Monday.

This would involve doing Peterborough-Cheshire-Peterborough on a week night.

Enlisting the help of Captain Slow and his XM (which was appropriate, considering what I was buying) we made our way up North.

We passed the time by talking about anagrams, trucks, radio 2 and had an argument about where Warrington was.

I’m not sure what time we arrived but it was dark. As everyone knows, traveling 100s of miles to buy a car in the dark is for WINNERZ.

Anyway, after a quick spin up the road and some lip biting, thinking “I really don’t need this...BUY BUY BUY.†I swapped some bits of paper with pictures of The Queen on them for some keys.

I now own a V6....Can ya tell what it is yit?

Yes, we were re-enacting Ronin. If Ronin was set in Stockport and the characters had fly away hair, wore denim and had shit shirts.

Captain slow decided it would be a really good idea to do some shopping. I don’t remember that part of Ronin.

All I needed to do before enjoying a relaxing* drive home was put petrol in the tank and air in the tyres. What could possibly go wrong?

C U L8ER COOL-ANT.

MEGA LOLZ

At this point the 605 decided it didn’t want to be a car, and would rather be a vegetable steamer or a trouser press. I don’t remember part of Ronin, either.

So I shut the engine off saying “shit shit shit shit shit shit†and we stood around and laughed at it on petrol forecourt in Stockport, while eating bread sticks. It’s a situation like that when you do question where your life is going.

Anyway, we chucked some water in and made for the M62, with the temperature gauge behaving itself.

The M62 also had a change of heart about its direction in life, and decided that it would rather be a sodding great line of cones, high viz vans and ROAD CLOSED signs.

Captain Slow took the lead, and to get us out of Manchester used a road which was a cross between Postman Pat’s hometown and a sega rally stage.

The big Peugeot took to it well, and took it all in it’s stride. The sport wanking suspension power bollocks button got a work out (a sport button that does something - gasp!).

At 3 am we got home.

This morning I inspected it in the daylight. There’s some nasty bits on it but it has an MOT until may and aside from the header tank, it’s not shit!

Best part? At £350 - one can’t lose! (cashback!)

I bloody love this car. I think we’ll be good friends. I’ve already named her Michelle - M plate car, it’s French and I think it’s a she - not a he like my 800(s) :)

It did not end well for any of the 605's in Ronin. They all got blew up.

Wow, 605s are super rare now, of the couple I've seen recently one was long term abandoned at a recovery garage, the other burnt out.

I've always wanted to try one.

Posted

Auto 8 valve V6 with Lord Gears.

1.3 valves per cylinder?

Just replace the header tank with a Rover 800 item... oh.

They're bloody underrated cars. Seriously, they're good...I was suprised.

12 valves rather!

Has it lost 4 valves as well as coolant?

Is this the same 3.0 V6 that was in the Laguna at the time?

It's a PRV engine so maybe...

You look a little bit like a cousin of mine.

He is male, too.

Are you him in disguise?

But then he lives up north...

If I am, it's news to me.

A better photo in daylight, alongside my Citroen.

Two corrections. We were at Huddersfield when I navigated us back - past Emley Moor and down to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

And the location of Warrington ended up being irrelevant, because the car was actually in Wilmslow 21 miles away.

It's a hell of a lot better than your last £350 hen house. ;-)

Reminiscent of the Kray twins.

Partridge buys car that I'm jealous off shocker!

I think these are such good looking cars, I remember Autocar testing one back in 1991 when I was only 11 and being slightly aroused by it.

Looking at that plate did it come from Sterling Peugeot in Ipswich? Anyway where's the interior photos?

Are all the Pug family of that period Pininfarina designs? They're all sexy tarts.

Yes Nibblet...Legend has it Pug were pissed off by how much they made it look like an Alfa!

Here you go :) Felly Magic said it's an Ipswich plate. I will see what the history file tells me, if anything.

Lovely barge, that is.

+1 on the Ipswich reg, nice to see it's almost made it back to it's first home.

I'll admit it's only now I've got it home and have been reading up about more about it that I'm understanding what a special piece of kit this is (in a good way). According to how many left there are only 8 SVEs left in the UK. Shit.

So glad I didn't chicken out...

Wait a minute...

- There was a 605 V6 (albeit with decidedly unacceptable upholstery material) for sale in Stockport?

- You came to Stockport without visiting me?
