My dad ran an L plate 405 derv estate for a few years. It was a great car with all the toys - some sort of run out edition iirc (*edit - it was a 'HUNTER!) The only downside was when he tried to chase an oil leak and it ended up costing him hundreds; it transpired that most gaskets and oil seals had eaten themselves. Block was dry as a bone after that though. He sold it about 8 years back and the fanatical bloke who bought it stuck his private plate on it. Still on the road today.

Second edit* Just DVLA checked it and looks like the original plate has been reinstated, and it's been sorted/ not mot'd since 2012 :/

Yours looks a peach anyhow. Great to see it getting little tweaks like the number plates - I've now got DMB graphics saved in my favourites - best repros I've seen yet.

I briefly owned a 205, when I say briefly I mean for 2 days. It was a freebie but dead. It was made into tin cans much to my regret now of course.

 

I had a dead battery once (well more than once). This was in a multi-story carpark. I'd parked opposite the down ramp with the car facing forwards. It was fun*.

To be entirely fair to the AA, the battery was most likely flat because it was faulty, but it would have got you home with a jump start.

 

If you'd like charging current and starter demand tested for extra piece of mind remind me when you come for the seats. I'll be in all day tomorrow.

I plan to try and remove the height adjustment mech to get the seat base lower.  The lack of headroom in the 405 is turning out to be an issue.  It shall be overcome though, hopefully.

Let this be a lesson to anyone that comes up with a good idea to help sort out our road problems. I went to all the trouble of biulding not one but two cars, at a cost to me of around 1,50000 quid. the second car was being biult because TOP GEAR were kinda interrsted in the car, however after one year I got the message that it would never go on TOP GEAR. The car works really well as you can see. I was not going to or could take the idea any futher. So here it is on YOU TUBE. to say I tried and I died..

You won't find comfier seats in a 405 than the ones already fitted to yours.

I love how the perspex windscreen has weathered. Interestingly, it was mainly the cost of a glass screen that scuppered his plans of putting it through an SVA test.

I thought the screen had been painted beige to "deactivate" the car.  Like when you slice out strips from a shotgun barrel so that it cant be used again, for the good of the community.

Just noticed that the rear pillar courtesy light is on in that pic. I wonder if that's what drained the battery. I turned them all off when I was in tescos car park to be on the same side when I was waiting for AA.
