Sudden dilemma - tell me about small 4wd shite - bonus 2013 S'fest ford video

Aye, maybe - but I'm fed up of having "enough", I've driven slowish cars for a bit too long and fancy something that's more than rapid enough.  That Alfa has too many zeros after it, and it's in far too good condition for me to drive it!

Anyway, looking at Pumas on Gumtree brought up this gem:

Fiat coupe? 20v turbo version seems to be an affordable rocket ship.

The number plate on that Puma is from an alternative Ulster.

*cough* Astra Coupe *cough*

Was getting 40+mpg from mine although that was a longish commute through lots of 50mph limits. Fairly fast. Cheap. Comfortable. Mildly sporty seats, but I'm sure they could be swapped for something from a different Astra.

Verdict: nearest rail station is Daisy Hill.

My Rover street wise is up for grabs, I can have it tested and it has more horses than a saxo.

275 as is or 325 with a full ticket.

I think it's a diesel, but it'll bankrupt you by breaking all the time negating any savings.

If you're still considering a new type Panda, my advice is don't. Reliable they may be. and Mrs SA's one has survived 7 years (and 110000 miles) of unremitting abuse at the business end of her leaden right foot, but the experience of driving one of these cramped, uncomfortable, gutless things is one of complete and total misery.

Actually, on reading that back it sounds like a ringing endorsement in the context of this forum. Go on, get one bought!

I'd love one, even the non-turbo - but I fear their dypsomania.

Has Bollox sold his Primera yet? It may be silver but goes like shit off a shovel apparently.

2 litre beater is the way forward I'd say. How about this? Auto, but still pretty rapid and frugal-ish.

Looks great, but I'm put off by the Badermatic. Bollox' Primera qualifies as a nearly-Cavalier, I suppose...

Someone on here was selling a Prelude, like a Fiat coupe but reliable.

Might scrape over 30MPG out of it as well, it's one with a spaceship dash and a decent auto box before the started mucking about with them.

Anything that won't do 40mpg or more

30mpg's too low, the oil cartels get enough of my money as it is! The AS bike Saab 900 that Dollywobbler sold to me and me to Hillman Imp would scrape above 30mpg if driven gently, but it would also scrape itself frequently on the ground (i.e. smack itself off of the deck) on undulating country roads at speeds 10-15 mph slower than the 1300 could manage to take them. This wasn't an absolute, but limited by the exit velocity of the preceding corner and the mighty 1297cc under the bonnet - the Cav probably could have taken the roads faster than that if it had been a 1600 or above!

Totally agree - apart from the last bit! Made the mistake of using my father-in-law-to-be's one. Only drove it for a few miles but it was UTTER shite in every way (apart from the good way).

My experience of the Panda is the complete opposite. I thought they were great fun to drive, and I fit in OK for my size (5th gear was right where my left kneecap is though). Gutless past 50 MPH and don't rev though. Neither of them EVER ran right, totally unreliable, financially ruinous, pieces of badly made shit.

One got written off with about 35k on the clock but needed constant fettling, the other I lost a boatload of money on just to get rid of the thing, think it had about 58k on the clock and it was knackered.

Still found myself wanting one the other day despite all that, I prefer to drive little cars really!

just buy a Puma. You wouldn`t believe just how well a Fiesta based car can drive. Proper drivers car.

Saxo VTR/S also good drivers cars but a bit twitchy on the limit. Typical French too in that they hide rot well. They may look mint on top but check everywhere for rot!

I know of a very nice Starlet coming up sale next week but it's not cheap cheap.

Don't just like the post, buy the car. It's everything* you could ever want from a car and so much more**

Also, you will be Billy's hero. He will worship you at the Church of Chumley and eventually buy it from you at a massive profit***
