Executive Audi 80: Back In Business

Recommended Posts

I'm on the train. Port Talbot is looking a bit bleak this morning, even by Port Talbot standards.

Got some meetings in London first, so actual contact with Vantman and the executive transport of desire won't be until a bit after 4pm.

I'm excited.

Oh, and Mrs Skizzer wasn't born yesterday so she asked me just how many raffle tickets I had to buy to win this. I was obliged to fess up that I did in fact buy all of them.

She was quite good about it, considering.

Cardiff Central is our Next Station Stop.

Newport, unlike everywhere else in Britain, looks quite a nice place from the station but a shithole from most other angles. (See Dollywobbler's Dyane thread for photo.)

But it has the wonderful transporter bridge, so we forgive it everything else.

You've either got away with it or have no stuff left at home already!

I think I've more or less got away with it so far. There was a bit of online shoe and jumper buying yesterday evening though.

A small price to pay in all honesty.

So now you need to buy new shoes and clothes the same time as a car.

I just tell the misses it was cheep and I should make on it, usually works for the first month or two.

Good purchasing sir!  Port Talbot is a pretty grim place at the best of times and I cannot think of a good reason anyone would want to visit it.  South Wales is actually visible from the North Devon coast on a very, very clear day, alas the prominent feature is Port Talbot, which is unfortunate.

Mind you, it'll all look simply divine from the driver's seat of the Audi, they really nailed the look of the 80, they're such a timeless, simple design.

I've never worked out why we can see North Devon much more clearly (and more often) from Swansea than the other way round.

I'm actually quite perversely fond of the view of Port Talbot from afar: you can see it across the bay from home, which is also where I grew up. My father was an engineer at the BP Chemicals plant in Baglan, next to PT, and bought the house because he could look across at the waste gas flare when he was on call (which was 24x7x52) and tell by its size and colour whether he was about to be called in to fix something.

So now you need to buy new shoes and clothes the same time as a car.

Nothing excessive, to be fair. Also, we've had a bit of a spending freeze lately while waiting for some very, very overdue clients to pay up, which they now have. I'm happy with the deal.

We're at Reading now, by the way.

Still seven hours to go before I get the car, mind. Have a blurry High Speed Train photo to liven things up*.

I could drive to Maidenhead and wave to you as you go by/stop at Maidenhead!

I wont though, in the office now!

Posted

Cheers Beko - we just wooshed through Maidenhead and I waved anyway.

Spotted a silver mk2 Jetta TX on factory steels that (shock) hadn't been lowered or painted with rust. Soz no photo because High Speed Train actually going at high speed.

Crikey! I had better throw a bucket of water over it if you are expecting that 'executive' look.

Posted

I really, really wouldn't bother ;-)

In the City now to meet with friendly clients. Serious face.

I think this might be the classiest collection thread yet, business client meeting in London followed by collection of an Audi that may even be washed, plus a mention of the word 'executive'.

I'm even wearing a suit. No tie though, because THAT'S HOW I ROLL, dudes.

Big thanks to Vantman for thorough prepping of car, station pickup and generally being a really nice bloke. As he said - deal was done!

I'm now 60 miles down the road and this car is flipping excellent.

I'm only near Port Toilet, so no. Any Audi 80s you see there are just passing through.

Superb work, get it down to Gerry Hill's Volkswagen Audi garage in Gorseinon and start complaining when they can't find the microfiche with the parts.

I was at St Pancreas earlier. I didn't see you.

I don't know who you are though. So maybe I did.
