Fair enough, now get down to the bloody garage will you :)

Painting that car would be a crime. Save your money and spend it on petrol.

She needs something to cover the primered bits. Maybe a wrap might be the way forward?

Today I have started doing things to Terry, to make him roadworthy. Apologies for no pictures.

It wasn't easy as I was having quite a bit of a hangover because of last week's "reasons to get drunk" accumulation (wedding anniversary, my birthday, work exams, long time without getting pissed).

Swapped wheels to MGF ones, fitted horn and started fitting the headlights. The problem arose there straight away. I looked through a vast number of screws, bolts etc and none of them would secure the headlamp bracket/casing thingy.

Could someone with a Toledo or square eyed Dolly take one of these screws out and measure them for me? Pretty please.

As I couldn't fit them I thought I at least rewire them to see if everything works. No problems there.

A question for the silly thread: Where does it say which lamp is left or right? Does it even matter here?

Next were the little lamps and front indicators. Remaining cables didn't match colours but after few tries left indicator was left and right was right.

To be fair, that was all I was allowed to do by my body. Large amounts of food and alcohol the day before demanded close proximity of the toilet (which hardly ever comes included when renting a garage from local priest).

I'll leave it here.

They were originally pop riveted in Daniel. All you can do is search local factors and the like to obtain a suitable self-tapper or set screw and bolt.

The headlights are not sided :)

Daniel, we neeeeeeeeed pictures of the Toledo.

Especially now all is bolted/screwed back together and awaiting MOT on Friday.

C'mon, you've seen pictures of the Dolomite, so it is only fair....

Dan! Pictures man, pictures!

What time the MOT tomorrow?

Daniel, it has been quite a while since we heard anything from you. All ok? What's happening with Terry the Toledo?

If I had the money I would probably try and buy this one back :)

After far too many weeks, months, I'm ashamed even to admit, a year, Terry has passed the MOT with only few little advisories.

A joy to drive!

Now the bodywork needs sorting out and I can wiz around in proper shite style.

Finally managed to sort out all the paperwork and confirmed its too old to pay tax.

Took Terry for his first proper spin. It's running rather rich, maybe worth taking the carbs apart?

There are also some knocks in the front suspension.

Otherwise it's brilliant!

Hopefully I can introduce him at the Northern Powerhouse meeting.

I was supposed to go to my work car club but didn't get there. The gear stick kind of broke...

It looks like it snapped in the same place before. The short bit is about 4-5 cm.

Can I detach the lever without too much fetling?

It's a 1850HL gearbox.

The old garage manual says I will have to get underneath the car to release the lever.

I don't think I'll be able to reach it from inside the car.

Went for a whizz around the other day and everything was working beautifully until roughly half an hour into whizzing.

The engine started loosing power and coughing up when accelerating. Then it would clear up and start again.

I stalled it once and couldn't start the engine again. It started again when cooled down after roughly 30-40 minutes.

Where should I start looking for the issue?

Picture of sorry looking Terry on a road side...

Sounds like an ignition fault. I'd take the dizzy cap off and see what condition the contacts, rotor arm and points are in.

Condenser breaking down most likely, could be vapour lock as well I suppose.

I used to have similar problems with my Dolly 1300, replaced the ignition system and the problem vanished. I went for electronic ignition as the repo ones seem to be utterly dire...

Condenser or coil tbh. The way forward is to sell it back to me :)

Check the needle in the SU Carb, make sure it hasn't dropped.

I had this once, car would only run on choke.

I think the chaps are prob right on ignition, but check the carb needle to be sure

Checked the contact points and rotor arms. All nice clean and lubricated.

Went for a ride and same thing happened. Engine died at light and had to wait over 30 minutes before it started again.

Next step, order the condenser and maybe have a look at the electronic ignition.

Condenser quality nowadays is shit. TBF either could be the issue.
