beko1987 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 My colleague with the sadly illegal van is car hunting, and is about to ask if this car is still available http://www.google.com/url?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pistonheads.com%2Fclassifieds%2Fused-cars%2Fhonda%2Faccord%2Fhonda-accord-mk5-vtec-se-executive-2002%2F4461152&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNFGetp7sl0CR4IqezC0YQWqu4ToUA Looks tidy, but anything to look out for on these? Front discs and pads come in at about £70 on ECP if that's all the slight squeak from the front wheels are.
Honey Badger Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Rot in the front footwells, lift the carpet to check that the seam sealer between the wheel arch, bulkhead and floorpan has blown and let the rust faeries in. beko1987 1
Tetleysmooth Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 For some strange reason, I think I'd prefer this: http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/181035/1991-honda-concerto-auto-warrington
twosmoke300 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Shitty lucas calipers leaking and seizing . Heavy clutch

r.welfare Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Rusty brake pipes. General neglect. They are crap on fuel. That said, if you maintain them well they do big mileages with little downtime.
twosmoke300 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 He's right , like most Hondas it's crap on petrol
New POD Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Lucas Calipers ? The Collette Caliper ? They main them by the millions, in all 5 continents, ( 2 different European factories, ). Basic design was pretty good. If they stick they can be sorted easy enough.
beko1987 Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 Its now a plan b car, one of his mates is selling a cougar...
beko1987 Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 Right, the accord was sold, however, at 1pm (as he has a meeting at 12), myself and gnomeotoole are popping out to take a look at this http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201507305631566?channel=cars&search-target=usedcars&price-to=1000&postcode=sl67ag&page=2&radius=10&onesearchad=used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew&sort=pricedesc&logcode=p Any hints or tipz on these bad boys? It's a local car too, princes risborough is only 5 miles away from me!
Cavcraft Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Probably dead reliable, but that seems insane money for an unpopular car of that age. Still, it's not all about the money. beko1987 1
gordonbennet Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Recent 4 Continental tyres says a lot, previous owner cared enough to pay up for those so rest of car probably similarly looked after, recent cambelt, get down there. beko1987 1
Honey Badger Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Groaning rear diff on cornering on full lock I seem to remember, can be cured by changing the fluid for the all singing all dancing correct Honda Fluid something to do with the dual pump activating rear diff. If the fluid has been changed recently make sure its DPS-F fluid only, anything else fucks the system up. http://repairpal.com/groaning-noise-on-turns-due-to-differential-fluid-breakdown-960 http://www.hondasuv.com/members/showthread.php?57716-Groaning-Noise-up-front-when-Turning beko1987 1
beko1987 Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 Well, we went and had a look, and its quite clean tbh. Has had a smack on the rear bumper, which has snapped a clip off, and loosened 2 others. There's a slight rattle on acceleration up to 2.5k, then it stops. We plan to fix this by binning the clips that are left and putting some cable ties in. EML came on when we fired her up, I had my bluetooth obd reader in which diagnosed it as a slight misfire on cylinder 2. Cleared the code, and it stayed off for the whole test drive so we think either new spark plugs, or it's just not been used much recently and needs a good drive. Apart from that, the tyres are good, discs and pads will past a bit longer, idles nicely, pulls well, stops ok. £100 deposit has been left, and the seller photocopied all the docs needed to get tax and insurance, so gareth will do that tomorrow. The guy also spoke favourably about the ZX, which never happens. He apparently quite likes his 1.9tds, says he sells them very quickly when he gets one in. Was not at all shocked by my 278,900 miles on the clock! Proper collectioning shall happen tomorrow lunchtime. mouseflakes, garethj, KruJoe and 1 other 4
gordonbennet Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Well bought sir, looks a decent motor that. beko1987 1
beko1987 Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 I didnt buy it, just helped along. Now belongs to the ginger man as pictured!. Dont think the guy was prepared for me running and grabbing my reader, he was quite interested in it! If the seller had bothered to hoover it out, and maybe take the rubbish out and wipe the palstics down he could have asked more, but then we wouldnt have been able to see it in it's naked honest glory. gordonbennet 1
Mr_Bo11ox Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Do these come with a shower? I seem to remember an advert for them making a big deal about that.
beko1987 Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 Nope, no shower, intentional or unintentional (we was brave and opened the big sunroof in the rain!)
phil_lihp Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Yes, there was a special edition with a shower in the back. Great cars these, I loved mine, massively useful and dead reliable but my word they do like a drink.
RobT Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Was that from Chalfont Family Cars? I bought the 75 from them and they seemed honest, and slightly eccentric part time dealers. I remember him saying he just couldn't sell the thing, not even as a station car for the well heeled residents of those parts. £395 with a full test seemed value to me even if it was an old Rover, so his luck was in when I turned up. beko1987 1
beko1987 Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 Yep! Thems the ones! Lovely place, although possibly could do with a clean! He could have killed us tbh and no one would have noticed, no phone signal, set back from the road etc. Glad youve had a good experience, gives some re-assurance! Gareth just said he likes round numbers, so would he take £950 and the guy thought for a sec, and said yes. Was a painless transaction tbh.

Cheggers Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Do these come with a shower? I seem to remember an advert for them making a big deal about that.Wasn't that the slightly odd, angular looking one...F-RV or summat??

beko1987 Posted August 10, 2015 Author Posted August 10, 2015 Cant find one for sale anywhere. Apparently they did a fold out picnic table though, will have to check for that, we didnt lift the carpets up in the boot
oldcars Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 My 75 has a shower in the boot, fingers crossed i can get rid of that option extra when i replace the rear lamp gaskets. beko1987 and purplebargeken 2
