Collection Relay Team Suggestion

Has this been explored/tried in the past?

Assuming people have a distance they'd consider driving to meet another Autoshiter, if someone's got a collection they know well enough in advance, would it work for one person to give a lift to X, then another person to collect at X, get to Y, etc?

I mean, I'm in a lucky bit near the M1, so I would consider doing Leicester Forest East services to, say, Rutland, Northampton places up to Peteboghorror, and possibly as far south as Toddington if the M1 isn't totally fucked.

Maybe it wouldn't be practical because people would end up with delays or have Life Events, but surely it's worth a shot for one of the more epic collections?

I'm in the Midlands, convenient for M6/M6 Toll/A5.  There is an active AS Massiv standing ready to assist.

I'm in East Lincolnshire which is convenient for fuck all except for chucking it in the sea.

I'm happy to venture from Teesside anywhere north of the border. Especially if I can bring a Volvo estate back the other way ...

I am in Southern California if that helps.

Sounds good, until one person doesn't turn up. But that's no reason not to try! I am in Tamworth and could do local ish runs.

I'm in the shitty area known as Edmonton, not far from South Mimms/M25.

How about a members map

https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zsEOneNDsvyc.kU3Mvz6DBkyo&usp=sharing

Anybody can add their location thereabouts. I added mine.

That maybe should be a sticky separate thread which would not only help with relay collections but also with organising little local meet ups, spannering sessions, parts, sales etc etc.

Feel free to add yourselves. You can edit map even without log in or google account (or so I think)

I'm in Barrow, which isn't really convenient for anywhere but at least you know there's a cuppa here....

If you do add your location, don't forget to change the name of the 'point' to your forum name :)

There was one on here, with it's own separate tab up the top.

It seems to have gone now, I must have missed that.

That must have been before me joining.

Pity it's gone.

Is the link working as it should?

My suggestion last year was thus:-

Distance can be a killer, but the ingenuity of the shite mind knows no beginnings, and thus, I lay before you Breadvan's patented heap-U-don't like as much as you thought you would when you saw the photos delivery system:

Problem:  To get Heap Z from Gaff A (miles away) to Gaff B (fooking miles away).

Method:  Apply X petrol stations and Y shiters, where Y is X plus 1.

Solution:

Shiter 1 (seller) drives Heap Z from Gaff A to Pez 1 and meets ....

Shiter 2, who drives Shiter 1 back to Gaff A and then drives Heap Z to Pez 2, where he meets...

Shiter 3, who drives Shiter 2 back to Pez 1 then drives Heap Z on to Pez 3, where he meets...

Shiter 4, who drives Shiter 3 back to Pez 2 and then goes on with Heap Z to Pez 4, where he meets ,,,,

Shiter 5, who drives Shiter 4 back to Pez 3 and then drives Heap Z on to Gaff B where he meets ...

Shiter 6 (buyer), who drives Shiter 5 back to Pez 4, and then drives the now terminally shagged out Heap Z to the scrapper.

Each shiter puts some pez into Heap Z .in return for the honour and glory of driving said heap.  Poorly focused smartphone money shots obligatory at all pez stations, preferably with the two shiters sharing a handshake and some disgusting garage snack or cup of congealed wombat jizz masquerading as coffee.

This system might only work -

(a) never, and

(b if the car was so cool and/or so shitey as to inspire legions of shiters to step forward and say ...

The issue I see with that is that at any given point, another driver needs to be deployed to drop the shiter driving the car at point A and hand it over at point B for each leg. I'm thinking more along the lines of getting the person who has bought the car, to their car, potentially giving them an experience in a variety of shite* cars as well.

so relay the buyer instead of the car?

I would happily help out. Wiltshire and Bath are my stomping grounds.

I'm near by, but in the delightfully green borough of Barnet; again, handy for the M25/South Mimms services.

Exactly!

Exactly!

up for that. i can get both major scottish airports sub 1hr and happy to do anywhere in a 3hr radius inc train stations

...relay the buyer instead of the car...

This makes a great deal of sense - and helps shiters get to know each other too.

WCPGW?

I doubt that I can be of much assistance as I live in the arse end of beyond, the valley I live in does not lead anywhere and the road stops about a mile further up from my house. I am however, within a reasonable distance of Cardiff and work in Bridgend so could be available for mainline railway station collections and local drop-offs.

I am about 10 miles from the M6 at Jn17 (Sandbach) so (when at home) can do from M6 Stafford services up to Charnock Richard and Buxton/Ashbourne across to Queensferry on the M56. When I'm not at home - post your travel requirements at the start of the collection thread as I could be pretty much anywhere else in the UK!
