Lacquer Peel Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I don't think injection is a good thing when it comes to these, it's some strangled SPI setup.Car looks "honest" though.
explosive-cabbage Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Barely an honest price though. Ouch. Lacquer Peel, Jim Bell, Aston Martin and 2 others 5
New POD Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 What was the location again ? I always wanted a 3 door 205, so I could turn it into a T16 Replica
Cavcraft Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 His location (by his avatar) says Plymouth. Money wise? It's up to any potential buyers to do their homework first, you can't be ripped off on price. stephen01 and BorniteIdentity 2
forbeslongden Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 Hello, all sorry I've just seen all the comments, I've got more pictures of it. The price is at a haggle point, you can only go down, right? It's a long ad because I'm not trying to make out that it's the best 205 in the world, far from it, but it's far less money than the best examples. I've only just got the car back from it's MOT so that's the reason why there was a lack of photos, I'm happy to take any that a potential buyer may want. Anything that isn't a GTi is very random money-wise, I've sold most non-GTi 205's I've owned (STDT, late model, base etc) between £650-£1000 depending on what condition they were in, I'm happy for a reasonable offer on this car.
forbeslongden Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 Hpi clear? Must be desperate to get finance on that! Glws though Ah that was only because I bought it originally without the V5, so it was HPI checked to make sure it wasn't stolen or written off. Twiggy and beko1987 2
Felly Magic Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I hate to say this, but being what it is, the 1.4 petrol, it's one of the least popular models, only the diesels and proper GTi's are in demand. Also in it's current state, it's only worth about £300, the steels are gopping, paint is flat, engine bay looks a mess, indicator lenses missing, broken foglamps, pogweaseled bumpers. It needs a lot of work to bring up to scratch
2MB Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 i have to disagree about the 1.4 petrol being unpopular. It's a fantastic engine 500tops 1
purplebargeken Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Not the worst cart I have seen (in an ad), those seats look mega-comfy. All it needs is a Vulgalour once over. More like 300 to 400 quid at this point in time.

It needs a lot of work to bring up to scratch I'd have to disagree with the 1.4 engine, they aren't as unpopular as say, the 1.8 NA diesel lump, sure it's no 1.6 or 1.9 but it's a bloody strong lump in there. You're right about the steels, even if they were in mint condition, they'd be very old fashioned for this car I think, the engine bay does need a tidy but I didn't want to seem like I was hiding anything really, the indicator lenses I didn't think would be a big enough deal to be fair. The fog lights aren't broken, that's trick of the camera, that. The bumpers I could probably do with getting some kind of 'Back to Black' or suchlike to sort out. All in all, good pointers though.
forbeslongden Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 Actually, I shouldn't say unpopular, less sought after is probably about right, they never seem to sell for decent money at all, most owners of them that I've encountered wish they had the option of a 1.8TD 205 instead... Totally different ball game, those. red5 1
burraston2006 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Hang on chaps and chapesses. The guy is a newbie and I think you are all being abut harsh on him! The car my not be to our tastes but he likes it. Mind you if it was £300 I'd probably be interested! GLWTS! Cavcraft and forbeslongden 2

forbeslongden Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 I feel I should explain a little why this car isn't in the bargain section, I bought this car for £320, for the reason that I don't like seeing a decent 205 cut up, it cost me almost the price I paid for it to get 12 months MOT slapped on it once the repairs were done, if I'd left it as it was, indeed it'd be a £300-350 car.... I just wanted to keep another on the road folks... mat_the_cat 1
burraston2006 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 There's no need to try and justify the price on here! The'y'll say that you are trying to hide something! Mind you most of us on here would try to skin a fart for 5 pence!!! alf892, forbeslongden and Twiggy 3

Welcome etc. 'Bargain section' ? - you entered that when you crossed the beige™ threshold - ps, actual price has little to do with it being a 'bargain'. I'd like to say as you stick around you'll get the hang of it - I did, and never have. It's ace.
forbeslongden Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 I know, I meant bargain in the sense of giving it away.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Give the guy a break FFS, its pretty obvious he's just some lad who likes 205's. Anyone would think Quentin Willson had signed up to flog us a clocked E-type or summert. Jim Bell, Lacquer Peel, forbeslongden and 8 others 11
NorfolkNWeigh Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Here's a bit of incentive for one of you clay bar perverts,or £15 to the Romanians and a tin of grey paint from the Pound Shop. Picture stolen from UmBongo's Glamis Castle report. forbeslongden and Cavcraft 2
MarvinsMom Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 i like it. ok maybe not enough to go to plymouth cos SWMBO would gut me like a fish, but i like it. it is the sort of 205 i would buy cos i really like those steely wheels, the cloth trim looks in nice nick and the body looks pretty straight. it needs fogs and indicators and some TLC, but doesn't every car that we see for sale on here? i still like it. forbeslongden 1
forbeslongden Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 I intend to clean it at least tomorrow, which hopefully if the weather holds up, includes cleaning up the engine bay a little and getting those spot lights cleaned up, I understand it looks less than stellar in the pictures, it does look a little better in the flesh I think... Anyway, I'm sorry if I got anyone's back up about the price of the car, I was only really testing the waters and trying to recoup some costs, I assume the 205 isn't quite as cool as other hatches from around that era yet. :/
mat_the_cat Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 i have to disagree about the 1.4 petrol being unpopular. It's a fantastic engine I'd agree that's it's a great engine, although only owned the carb-fed TU3S. But it just doesn't seem anywhere near as popular as the GTis. FWIW, I like it although I'm perpetually skint! forbeslongden 1
Lacquer Peel Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Don't take it harshly, we're just a bunch of skinflints. RobT, dugong, Cavcraft and 1 other 4
holbeck Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 we're just a bunch of skinflints. ^^ we are a bunch of skinflints, and history has shown that 205's are unsellable on here. That's why I bought an unfashionable 1.8 N/A so that I could not sell it on here when the time comes. Lacquer Peel and alf892 2
UltraWomble Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 they aren't as unpopular as say, the 1.8 NA diesel lump, Wash your mouth out with carbolic. The square port NA XU7D is a joy to drive and a spendthrifts delight. Sorry Mr Boll. [hangs head for adding to the pages of helpful* comments] Lovely seats though.
MarvinsMom Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 it is like a late version of the XS isn't it? the 205 XS was THE version of the 205 which i always wanted/prefered even over the GTi's. but i am odd. Joey spud 1
